In case of conflict between the text of this document and the references citedherein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing

    10、 in this document, however , supersedes applicablelaws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.3 REQUIREMENTS.3.1 G e n e r a l r e q u i r e m e n t s . The general manner of preparation shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-38784unless otherwise specified herein. The acquiring

    11、activity shall determine if the manuals are to be preparedin single or double column format (see 6.2 c. ).3.1.1 E l e c t r o n i c p r e s e n t a t i o n r e q u i r e m e n t s . Electronic presentation requirements prescribed herein shall applyonly to the development of T ype 1 linear data for e

    12、lectronic viewers. For development of Portable DocumentFormat (PDF) data, print presentation requirements herein shall apply , as applicable.3.1.2 A b b r e v i a t i o n s . The requirements of MIL-STD-38784 are applicable.3.1.3 S i z e o f m a n u a l s . Print presentation: W ork package manuals

    13、shall be prepared in the 8 1/2by 1 1-inch sizes only .3.2 C a t e g o r i e s o f m a n u a l s .3.2.1 M a i n t e n a n c e m a n u a l s . Maintenance manuals shall contain detailed procedures such as disassembly ,cleaning, inspection, repair , rework, major overhaul, assembly , test, etc. Procedu

    14、res shall be provided forall parts, subassemblies and assemblies coded (Source, Maintenance, and Recoverability SMR code) forrepair . Specific data shall be provided to adequately describe acceptable repairs, including specifications formaterials to make repairs. The manuals may also include an illu

    15、strated parts breakdown. The manuals shallinclude only the level of maintenance authorized by the users maintenance concept and authorized supportequipment. Depot maintenance manuals shall cover complete major repair and overhaul procedures. Thetype(s) of manuals to be prepared shall be specified by

    16、 the acquiring activity (see 6.2 c. ).3.2.1.1 I n t e r m e d i a t e m a i n t e n a n c e m a n u a l . The intermediate maintenance manual shall contain repairinstructions required for maintenance and repair of removed equipment at base level activities.3.2.1.2 O r g a n i z a t i o n a l m a i n

    17、 t e n a n c e m a n u a l . Or ganizational maintenance on installed equipment willnormally be covered in the weapon system (e.g., aircraft, missile, communications station, etc.) maintenancemanual. When specified, or ganizational manuals shall be produced in accordance with this specification.3.2.

    18、1.3 D e p o t m a i n t e n a n c e m a n u a l . The depot maintenance manual shall contain instructions required fordepot repair and overhaul of equipment, modules, and component parts. The acquiring activity shall specify(see 6.2.c. 3. ) whether the manual shall be developed to support horizontal

    19、 or vertical disassembly andassembly maintenance concept (engines and missiles only).3.2.1.4 C o m b i n e d m a i n t e n a n c e m a n u a l . When specified (see 6.2.c. 4. ) Intermediate and Depot maintenancemanuals may be combined, depending on size and complexity of the equipment. Instructions

    20、that are beyondintermediate maintenance capability , due to authorized support equipment, tools, or skills, shall be identifiedas depot only . If duplication of material is required, it shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-38784 andmay only be duplicated to preserve WP/SWP integrity or clarity .3Prov

When specified (see 6.2.c. 5. )on-condition maintenance instructions shall b

    22、e provided for conditional or unscheduled maintenance requiredfor repair and/or replacement of parts, components, modules, assemblies, and subassemblies necessary torestore equipment to a serviceable condition. This manual shall contain those procedures developed to gainquick access to areas requiri

    23、ng maintenance rather than following the total disassembly and assembly process.A maintenance sequence diagram of maintenance requirements shall be provided. This diagram shall providea step-by-step manner in which the equipment will be disassembled and reassembled for repair and/orpreventive mainte

    24、nance. It shall graphically represent the required removal/installation sequence for eachequipment component/assembly . Specific test procedures and limits shall be provided.3.2.1.6 M a n u a l s e t . When specified by the acquiring activity (see 6.2.c. 6. ) based on the number ofassemblies or comp

    25、lexity of the equipment, the maintenance manual may be prepared as separate manualsfor each major assembly .3.2.1.7 A c c e s s o r i e s . When specified by the acquiring activity (see 6.2.c. 7. ) manuals shall be prepared formajor accessories. Suitable reference shall be made in the maintenance ma

    26、nual to applicable accessorytechnical manual identification numbers. This shall be done in tabular form, cross referencing part numberand nomenclature to technical manual identification number .3.2.2 O p e r a t i o n a n d m a i n t e n a n c e i n s t r u c t i o n m a n u a l . Operation and main

    27、tenance instruction manual(s)shall contain, as applicable, but not be limited to, the following: General system information, receivingand handling, servicing, operation, inspection, maintenance, preparation for shipment and storage, limits,dif ference data, and illustrated parts breakdown (see 3.5 )

    28、.3.2.3 S p e c i a l t e c h n i c a l m a n u a l s . Certain equipment requiring operation and maintenance instructions thathave unique characteristics, unusual support requirements, and other uncommon considerations shall requireadditional specific information. This peculiar or unique information

    29、 shall be included in standard manualsand associated technical WPs as described in Appendices B thru L (see 3.6 ). Examples of this type ofoperation and maintenance procedures are Aircraft Engine T esting and T rending Procedures, ParachutePacking Procedures, Special Requirements For Storage and Mai

    30、ntenance Procedures; AUR Munitions andAssociated Support Equipment, Conventional Components and Chemical Munitions/Biological Research(CMBR) Agents, and A TE Operator T est Procedures Manual. If conflicts exist between the guidance of thestandard WPs and the guidance contained in the special technic

    31、al manuals appendices, the special technicalmanual appendix guidance shall take precedence.3.2.4 C h e c k l i s t s . When specified (see 6.2. j. ) checklists shall be prepared in accordance with MIL-PRF-5096.Procedures from individual WPs shall form the basis for the checklist tasks.3.3 G e n e r

    32、a l W P / S W P r e q u i r e m e n t s .3.3.1 W P d e s c r i p t i o n . Each WP prepared shall be an independent, task/process oriented unit, using aminimum amount of references. Only essential information shall be provided. T ext shall be factual, concise,comprehensive and readily understandable

    33、 to personnel with a minimum of training and experience in thearea where the data will be used. T echnical phraseology or symbols that require specialized knowledge shallnot be used unless no other word or phrase will convey the intended meaning.3.3.2 W P c o v e r a g e . W ork packages may cover s

    34、uch subjects as alphabetical index (for a manual),foreword (to a manual), theory of operation, operating instructions, troubleshooting or fault isolation,alignment, disassembly , assembly , cleaning, inspection, and repair . Each WP shall contain the minimumamount of information required to complete

    35、 the coverage of the functional task.Print presentation: WPs shall always begin on a right-hand page.3.3.3 S W P d e s c r i p t i o n . A WP may be subdivided into SWPs. This division shall be used when onedivision by WP is not suf ficient to maintain a logical sequence of data, for clarity , or to

    36、 isolate specificmaintenance level requirements of a combined manual.Print presentation: SWPs shall always begin on a right-hand page.3.3.4 N u m b e r i n g o f W P / S W P s . WP/SWP numbers shall be in Arabic numerals with a seven digit fieldallowed, beginning with the number 001 00. The first th

    37、ree digits shall identify the WP number . SWPs shall be numbered 01 through 99, as required.There shall be two spaces between

    38、the WP number and SWP number , e.g., SWP 007 05. There shall beone space between “WP“ or “SWP“ and the WP number , e.g., SWP 007. The Alphabetical Index WP shallalways be the first WP in the manual and assigned the number 001 00. Foreword WP shall always be thesecond WP in the manual and assigned th

    39、e number 002 00. Master List of Special T ools, T est Equipment,and Consumables shall always be the third WP in the manual and assigned the number 003 00. The fourthand subsequent WPs in the manual shall be numbered 004 00 through 997 00 as required.Print presentation: The WP/SWP number shall be imm

    40、ediately below the TM identification number .Electronic presentation: The WP/SWP number shall be placed in an area to make it persistently visible.3.3.4.1 N u m b e r i n g o f a d d e d W P / S W P s . Addition of new WP/SWPs within the manual (that cannot belogically added at the end of the sequen

    41、ce) shall be avoided whenever possible. When such additions arerequired, numbering of the added WP/SWPs shall be as shown in the following examples:a. A new WP added between existing WP 027 00 and WP 028 00 would be numbered WP 27A 00.b. A new SWP added between existing SWP 036 12 and 036 13 would b

    42、e numbered 036 12Awith only one space between 036 and 12A.c. A new SWP added between existing SWP 017A 14 and 017A 15 of a previously added WPwould be numbered 017A14A. This method of numbering utilizes the two (2) blank spaces thatnormally separates the three (3) digit WP number from the two (2) di

    43、git SWP number , yetsustains the seven (7) digit field allowed for the overall WP/SWP number .3.3.5 N u m b e r i n g o f fi g u r e s , t a b l e s , a n d p a g e s . Figures, tables, shall each be numbered consecutively ,within each WP or SWP , using Arabic numerals.Print presentation: Pages shal

    44、l be numbered consecutively , within each WP or SWP , using Arabic numerals.3.3.6 N u m b e r i n g o f a d d e d m a t e r i a l . Numbering of added material within a WP/SWP shall be inaccordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-38784.3.3.7 A s s i g n m e n t o f W P / S W P t i t l e s . T itles

    45、 shall be assigned with full consideration of the ef fect theymay have on easy , rapid access to data. The name of the object or equipment shall precede themodifier . A title such as Compressor Inlet V ariable V ane Control and Cylinder may cause the readerunnecessary time in attempting to retrieve

    46、the information needed. A more ef fective title would be Controland Cylinder , V ariable V ane, Compressor Inlet.3.3.8 T e x t c o n t e n t . Collectively , the WP/SWPs shall provide all essential information required to operate,maintain, and support the equipment for which these manuals are prepar

    47、ed. T ext shall be complemented byappropriate illustrations to the extent necessary for complete coverage and understanding. Emphasis shall beplaced on the specific steps of the maintenance procedures to be followed, the results which may beexpected or desired, and the corrective measures required w

    48、hen such results are not obtained. Proceduresrequiring a team of specialists for accomplishment of maintenance tasks shall have the tasks of theseindividuals designated separately in sequence of required accomplishment. Use of warnings, cautions, andnotes shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-38784.3.

    49、3.8.1 P a r a g r a p h s . Paragraphs shall be consecutively numbered in accordance with MIL-STD-38784 exceptchapter number prefix shall be omitted. Paragraph titling shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-38784 exceptonly primary sideheads must be titled.3.3.8.2 N o m e n c l a t u r e . Nomenclature shall be in accordance with of MIL-STD-38784. Consistency shall bemaintained between nomenclature in text, callouts on illustrations on the first occurrence of an equipmentitem
