This British Standard shall be used in con

    7、junction with the relevant sections of the latest issue of BSS100 as follows: 1.2 Sulphur printing or deep etching tests. One sample shall be taken from each ingot for sulphur printing or deep etching tests. 1.3 Ultrasonic examination. Bars shall be subjected to ultrasonic examination. 2 Manufacture

    8、 The material shall be manufactured by an electric process. 3 Chemical composition The steel shall contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dressed. 5 Condition The material shall be supplied in the appropriate condition stated below: 6 Heat treatment 6.1 Softening treatment. The so

    9、ftening treatment shall consist of heating uniformly at a temperature between680 C and700 C for not less than2h, followed by cooling in air. 6.2 Final heat treatment. The final heat treatment shall consist of the following. a) Hardening. Heat at a temperature of1050 10 C for not less than30min, foll

    10、owed by cooling in oil or, in the case of bars less than25mm diameter, in air, individually to a temperature of less than30 C before tempering. b) Tempering. Heat uniformly at a temperature between560 C and590 C for not less than3h, followed by cooling in air. c) Stress relieving. In the case of har

    11、dened and tempered bars which have been subjected to a cold straightening or cold rolling operation, stress relieve, at a minimum temperature of30 C below the actual tempering temperature, for a sufficient time to restore the proof stress. 7 Mechanical properties 7.1 Tensile test at room temperature

    12、 and impact test. The mechanical properties obtained from test pieces, heat treated in accordance with6.2, shall be as follows: 7.2 Hardness test 7.2.1 The hardness of material heat treated in accordance with6.1 shall be not greater than311HB or328HV or32HRC. 7.2.2 The hardness of material heat trea

    13、ted in accordance with6.2 shall be: 321 min./388 max. HB or 343 min./410 max. HV or 33 min./40.5 max. HRC.     16、dom from surface contamination 8.1 Selection of test samples 8.1.1 Bars for machining. Bars of the same nominal sectional dimension, made from the same cast and heat treated together shall be grouped in batches. The inspector shall select test samples from not less than10% of the machined or ground

    17、bars in each batch. 8.1.2 Bars and coils for forging. The inspector shall select one test sample from each end of each ground or machined coil, or from not less than10% of the product of each machined or ground coil which has been cut into straight lengths, in which case the samples selected shall b

    18、e representative of the whole of the coil. 8.2 Preparation of test samples. A transverse section shall be taken from the test sample and shall be mounted, in such a manner that the edge of the specimen is adequately supported during preparation, polished and etched. 8.3 Initial tests 8.3.1 The secti

    19、ons prepared from the test samples shall be examined with bright field illumination at a magnification of approximately200diameters. 8.3.2 The material shall be free from decarburization, carburization, oxide penetration, oxidation or other surface contamination. 8.4 Retests. If any sample fails to

    20、meet the requirements of8.3, the following procedure shall be adopted. a) Bars. A sample shall be taken from each bar not previously selected, prepared in accordance with8.2 and tested in accordance with8.3. b) Coils. Not less than 500 mm shall be discarded from that end of the coil represented by t

    21、he test sample that failed.
