It specifies requirements for

    8、paint remover used for selectively removing a paint scheme, consisting of an intermediate coating conforming to BS X 35 and a finish conforming to BS X 34, and leaving the primer, conforming to BS X 33, in a good condition for application of further coats. It has been assumed in the drafting of this

    9、 British Standard that execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people. The quality assurance authority and approving authority referred to in this British Standard are as stated in the contract or order, or the accredited representative of the authority st

    10、ated, as instructed by the purchaser. WARNING: This British Standard calls for the use of substances and/or procedures that may be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to healt

    11、h and safety at any stage. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their application. BSI 1998 1 BS X 36 : 1998 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for paint remover able to selectively remove the finish or finish and intermediate coating of

    13、 a defined paint scheme. The paint remover is intended for brush or spray application to paint schemes including an intermediate coating conforming to BS X 35, on metallic and non-metallic surfaces for aerospace purposes. NOTE. This British Standard does not apply to paint remover intended to be use

    14、d on paint schemes that do not include an intermediate coat. Annex A gives information on application for type approval. 2 Normative references This British Standard incorporates, by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These normative references are made at the appropriat

    15、e places in the text and the cited publications are listed on the inside back cover. For dated references, only the edition cited applies; any subsequent amendments to or revisions of the cited publication apply to this British Standard only when incorporated in the reference by amendment or revisio

For undated references, the latest edition of the cited publication applies, together with any amendments. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the definitions given in BS 2015 apply. 4 Materials 4.1 Composition The paint remover shall be a homogeneous fluid, of a consistency s

    17、uitable for application and paint removal on a vertical surface. It shall not contain chlorinated solvents or materials that are known to damage the environment. The paint remover shall not contain ingredients injurious to composite materials. 4.2 Composition of reference paint remover The reference

    19、sition given in table 1 is not intended to represent a formulation for practical application. 4.3 Reference paint scheme The reference paint scheme shall comprise a primer conforming to type B of BS X 33. an intermediate paint conforming to BS X 35, and a finish conforming to type B of BS X 34. 5 Pe

    20、rformance 5.1 General 5.1.1 The paint remover shall be able to selectively remove the finish from the reference paint scheme on test panels prepared in accordance with annex B of BS X 35 : 1998, and leave the primer in good condition for application of further coats. 5.1.2 Intermediate coating shall

    21、 either be completely removed or shall remain intact. 5.1.3 Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be carried out in temperature and relative humidity conditions conforming to BS EN 23270. 5.2 Tests on liquid paint remover The paint remover shall conform to table 2. 5.3 Tests for ability to sel

    22、ectively remove a paint scheme The paint remover shall conform to table 3.2 BSI 1998 BS X 36 : 1998 Table 2.     28、 to tests 1 and 4 of table 2, and, when prepared in accordance with annex B, the scheme shall conform to tests 1 and 2 of table 3. NOTE. Samples of material and material ingredients may be inspected at any stage of manufacture, and from any portion of the batch. 7 Marking In addition to any statutor

    29、y requirements each container shall be legibly and durably marked with at least the following: a) a description of the material; b) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e. BS X 36 : 1998; c) the manufacturers name and recognized trade mark; d) the batch number; e) the date of manufacture.

    30、BS X 36 : 1998 BSI 1998 3 Table B.1 Test panels Metal Preparation Aluminium alloy conforming to BS L 163 Prepare in accordance with BS EN 2334. Magnesium alloy conforming to type AZ31 of BS 3370 Acid chromate in accordance with bath iv of clause 2 of annex II of DTD 911C 2, and A.5.3 of BS 2L 500 :

Before use, remove the chromate film from the panels by immersing in a boiling aqueous solution of 150 g/l chromium (VI) oxide for 15 min, followed by swabbing under running water and rinsing in deionized water conforming to grade 2 of BS EN ISO 3696. Copper conforming to C101 of BS 2870, half

    32、 hard Freshly pickle in accordance with method R2 of DEF STAN 03-2 3 (bright dip). Steel conforming to BS EN 605 Freshly burnish in accordance with BS EN 605. Cadmium plated steel conforming to BS EN 605 Cadmium plate to a bright finish in accordance with DEF STAN 03-19 4, but do not passivate. Age

    33、for not less than four weeks after plating and dip in an aqueous solution of sodium dichromate in accordance with DEF STAN 03-33 5 immediately before use. Annex A (normative) T ype approval A.1 If the manufacturer is required to prove product conformity to this British Standard, the following shall

    34、be provided: a) test results conforming to this British Standard; b) wet samples of all materials; c) a declaration of composition, including the percentage and nature of all ingredients; d) reference values if required, e.g. VOC content. A.2 After type approval has been granted, there shall be no c

    35、hange in the product formulation unless this is approved by the approving authority. Annex B (normative) Determination of freedom from corrosion B.1 Preparation of test panels Use test panels of each of the metals specified in table B.1, prepared as described in table B.1, of 75 mm3 25 mm and (0.8 t

    36、o 1.2) mm nominal thickness. Degrease the panels, with a hydrocarbon solvent, in accordance with BS EN ISO 1514, and rinse in an equal mixture by volume of acetone conforming to BS 509 : Part 1 and industrial methylated spirit conforming to BS 3591. Dry in an oven at (105 2)8C for 30 min. Cool in a

    37、desiccator and weigh each panel to 0.1 mg. B.2 Procedure Completely immerse the panels in paint remover in glass test tubes. Stopper the tubes and leave for 168 h. Rinse the panels thoroughly under cold running water, gently swabbing the surfaces with cotton wool. Rinse in an equal mixture by volume

    38、 of acetone conforming to BS 509 : Part 1 and methylated spirit conforming to BS 3591. Take care not to remove any corrosion products from the panels.
