    5、 evacuation system within a building, ship or structure. The Publicly Available Specification is based upon BS EN 54-3:2001, Fire detection and alarm systems Part 3: Fire alarm devices Sounders. Specific technical requirements for directional sounders have been developed through research and consult

    6、ation with a balanced group of interested organizations. In preparing this Publicly Available Specification, consideration was given to the constructional requirements of directional sounders and, importantly for this type of sounder, the qualitative assessment of a test subjects ability to locate t

    7、he sound source accurately. Consequently, performance requirements have been developed that could take account of possible configurations without imposing undue restriction on the design freedom. This Publicly Available Specification is not to be regarded as a British Standard. It will be withdrawn

    8、upon publication of its content in, or as, a British Standard. Acknowledgement is given to the following organizations who were consulted in the development of this specification: British Fire Protection Systems Association; Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting (ICEL); University of Leeds; The

    9、Home Office; International Maritime Organization; Maritime type B, outdoor use; Class I, open space use; Class II, corridor use.     12、this Publicly Available Specification, the terms and definitions given in BS EN 54-3:2001 and the following apply. 3.1 directional sounder audible device which, as part of an emergency evacuation system in a building, ship, structure, premises or location, guides a person, or persons, from an unsafe

    13、 area to a safe area 3.2 type A device audible directional sounder designed for indoor use 3.3 type B device audible directional sounder designed for outdoor use 3.4 Class I device audible directional sounder designed for open space use (subject to type A or type B) 3.5 Class II device audible direc

    14、tional sounder designed for corridor use (subject to type A or type B)PAS 41:2003 2 BSI 17 February 2003 3.6 directional sounder system system comprised of one or more stand-alone or linked directional sounders for the purposes of identifying an escape route under emergency situations 3.7 supervisor

    15、y sounder audible device, usually mounted within a piece of equipment (e.g. control and indicating equipment), used for drawing attention, locally, to a change in status or the presence of an abnormal condition indicated by that equipment BS EN 54-3:2001 3.8 sound pattern(s) temporal arrangement of

    16、the bursts or pulses of sound output from the device 4 Requirements 4.1 Conformity In order to conform to this Publicly Available Specification, directional sounders shall meet the requirements of this clause which shall be verified by visual inspection or engineering assessment, shall be tested in

    17、accordance with, and shall meet the requirements of Clause 5. 4.2 Sound level The directional sounder shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 4.2. 4.3 Sound patterns The directional sounder shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 4.3 except that only the sound pattern(s)

    18、shall be declared. 4.4 Durability The directional sounder shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 4.4. 4.5 Construction The directional sounder shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 4.5. 4.6 Marking and data 4.6.1 Marking Each directional sounder shall be clearly marked

    19、 with the following information: a) words “Directional Sounder”; b) number and date of this Publicly Available Specification, i.e. PAS 41:2003 1) ; c) environment type, i.e. type A or B (see 3.2 and 3.3); d) name or trademark of the manufacturer or supplier; e) manufacturer or supplier model designa

    20、tion (type or number); f) terminal designations; g) rated supply voltages or voltage ranges (a.c. or d.c.); h) power consumption; i) a mark(s) or code(s) for example, serial number or batch code, by which the manufacturer can identify, at least, the date or batch and place of manufacture and the ver

    21、sion number(s) of any software contained within the device. 1) Marking PAS 41:2003 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim

    22、is solely the claimants responsibility. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third-party certification, which may also be desirable.PAS 41:2003 BSI 17 February 2003 3 Where any marking on the device uses symbols or abbreviations not in common use then these shall be explained in the data su

    23、pplied with the device. The marking shall be visible during installation and shall be accessible during maintenance. NOTE The marking might not be visible when the device is installed and ready for use. The markings shall not be placed on screws or easily removable parts. 4.6.2 Data The information

    24、required in BS EN 54-3:2001, 4.6.2a) to f), shall be supplied with the device, or shall be given in a data sheet or technical manual identified on, or with each device, except for 4.6.2d) where only the sound pattern(s) shall be identified. 5 Tests 5.1 General Unless otherwise stated in any of the t

    25、est procedures listed in 5.2 to 5.18, all testing shall be carried out in the atmospheric and operating conditions defined in BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 respectively. Unless otherwise specified, the directional sounder shall be mounted in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.1.3. Tolerances shal

    26、l be as specified in BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.1.4. The manufacturer shall supply directional sounders, equipment necessary for operation and data in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.1.5. Thirty-six sounders are required to complete the performance test given in 5.4. Only 18 of these need be operational

    27、units as long as the remaining 18 look identical from the subject position. The operational directional sounders shall be tested and inspected in accordance with the schedule given in Table 1. All the specimens shall first be submitted to the reproducibility test (5.2). On completion of the reproduc

    28、ibility test, the specimen with the lowest sound level shall be numbered 1 and a selection of the rest randomly numbered from 2 to 8 for Type A, or 2 to 10 for Type B. Unless otherwise required by any of the test procedures, the mode of operation selected for conducting the reproducibility test shal

    33、l be used for the next test on the schedule for that specimen. The sound level shall first be measured as specified in 5.2. The EMC tests specified in 5.17 are not required for sounders that do not rely on active electronic components for their operation. The tests on an individual specimen may be c

    34、arried out in any order except that the reproducibility test (5.2) and the operational performance, localization (5.4) shall be performed first on specimens as detailed and the tests on specimens 1 and 2 shall be carried out in the order listed, i.e. 5.18 last.PAS 41:2003 BSI 17 February 2003 5 5.2

    35、Reproducibility All directional sounders shall be subjected to the reproducibility test described in BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.2. 5.3 Operational performance, level and frequency The sound level of the specimen shall be measured in free field conditions in accordance with Annex A with the supply parameters

    36、 at the maximum and minimum of the specified range(s) (see 4.6.2). If the manufacturer has declared different operating modes (see 4.6.2) then the sound level and frequency shall be measured under each mode. The sounder shall be deemed to conform to the requirements of this subclause if, for each mo

    37、de of operation: a) the A-weighted sound level is greater than 65 dB in at least one direction; b) the A-weighted sound level does not exceed 120 dB in any direction; c) the sound level measured at each of the specified angles is not less than that declared by the manufacturer (see 4.6.2); d) the di

    38、fference between the A-weighted sound levels measured at the maximum and minimum supply parameters is not more than 6 dB, for each direction measured. Subject to the difference parameter ( L) recorded in Table A.1 or Table A.2 the sounder shall be marked as follows (subject to satisfying 5.4 to 5.18

    39、): a) if L 20 dBA then the sounder shall be marked “Class I”; b) if 21 dBA L 30 dBA then the sounder shall be marked “Class II”; c) if 31 dBA L then the sounder shall not be marked “directional” and shall not be tested in accordance with 5.4 to 5.18 and therefore cannot be used as a directional soun

    40、der or as part of a directional sounder system. The difference parameter shall be calculated in accordance with the following formula: L = L 1 L where L 1is the reading at 90 L is the average of the readings at 15 or 165 calculated in accordance with the following formula: L= (L 2+ L 3 )/2 where L 2

    41、is the 10 KHz reading at 15 L 3is the 10 KHz reading at 165 . NOTE If there is a difference between the vertical and horizontal L then the sounder needs to be clearly marked with which orientation is critical for the Class I or Class II operation. 5.4 Operational performance, localization When the d

    42、irectional sounder is tested in accordance with Annex B, the test subjects (as a group overall) shall correctly identify the location of the sounder at least 75 % of the time for each mode of operation. If the directional sounder fails to meet this requirement, it shall not be tested in accordance w

    43、ith 5.4 to 5.18 and shall not be marked “directional” and therefore cannot be used as a directional sounder or as part of a directional sounder system. 5.5 Durability The change in sound level after prolonged operation of the directional sounder shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.

    44、4.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.4.3. 5.6 Dry heat (operational) The ability of the directional sounder to function correctly at high ambient temperatures shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.5.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001

    45、, 5.5.3.PAS 41:2003 6 BSI 17 February 2003 5.7 Dry heat (endurance) The ability of the directional sounder to withstand long-term ageing effects shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.6.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.6.3. 5.8 Cold (operational) The abili

    46、ty of the directional sounder to function correctly at low ambient temperatures shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.7.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.7.3. 5.9 Damp heat, cyclic (operational) The ability of the directional sounder to withstand an enviro

    47、nment with high relative humidity shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.8.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.8.3. 5.10 Damp heat, steady state (endurance) The ability of the directional sounder to withstand the long-term effects of humidity in the service e

    48、nvironment shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.9.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.9.3. 5.11 Damp heat, cyclic (endurance) The ability of the directional sounder to withstand the longer-term effects of high humidity and condensation shall be tested in ac

    49、cordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.10.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.10.3. 5.12 Sulfur dioxide (SO 2 ) corrosion (endurance) The ability of the directional sounder to withstand the corrosive effect of sulfur dioxide as an atmospheric pollutant shall be tested in accordance with BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.11.2 and shall conform to the requirements of BS EN 54-3:2001, 5.11.3. 5.13 Shock (operational) The ability of the
