    8、made as he hurried round his untidy house. (18) Even going to answer the phone could cause calamities and a nail of damage. (19) No, they were due to injured fingers, banged heads and falls down stairs. As a matter of fact he survived so many serious injuries that in the end I came to doubt that the

I cannot claim that the resuhing lists are absolutely complete but can state that they are more complete than any lists that can be found in any other reference books.(18) Such chapters are intended merely as introductions to their respective subjects. By way of e

    16、xample, our language contains over 20,000 eponyms (words which are based on a persons name). Most of these are obscure scientific terms or measurements and its obviously beyond the scope of this book to list them all. (19) .Most of the word lists are pretty long, and Ive therefore chosen to divide t

    17、hem into smaller groups. I admit these sub-categories are totally arbitrary-they are a means of presenting the words in easier-to-digest servings and should not be construed as definitive classification.
