The context of Functional Standardization is onc area in the overall field of Information Technology (IT) Standardiiation activities, covering basc standards, profiles, and rcgistration mechanisms. A profile defines a combination of
14、 base standards thai collectiveiy pcrfom a spccific well-defined IT function. Profiles standardize the use of options and other variations in the basc standards, and provide a basis for the devclopment of uniform, internationally recognized system tests. ISPs are produced not simply to legitimize a
15、particular choice of base siandards and options, but to promote real system interoperability. One of the most important roles for an XSP is to servc as the bask for the development (by organizations other than IS0 and IEC) of intcrnationally recognized tcsts. The development and widespread acccptanc
16、e of tests bascd on this and other ISPs is crucial to thc successful rcalizauon of this goal. ISODEC ISP 10608 consists of several parts of which this is part 4. This part of ISO/EC ISP 10608 defines Profilc TA53. Othcr parts specify the subnetwork-type independcnt rcquirements (i.c. Transport Layer
