Technical Reports of types 1 and 2 are subject to review within three years of publication, to decide whether they can be transformed into International Standards. Technical Reports of type 3 do not necessarily have to be reviewed until the data they prov

6、tional government regulation); - annual planned production volume(s). 4.4 Manufacturers request for WPMI codes (4 characters) 4.4.1 A vehicle manufacturer who also produces vehicle parts shall use his assigned WMI code plus the numeral “0” in the fourth position to designate his WPMI code. If the WM
7、I code has a “9” in the third position (designating manufacturers producing less than 500 vehicles per year) the manufacturer shall request the National Agency to assign the character for use in the fourth position of the WPMI (excluding the numeral “0”). 4.4.2 A vehicle parts manufacturer who is no
8、t also a vehicle manufacturer shall request a WPMI code from the designated National Organization within his country by supplying the following information: - name and address of the manufacturer; - type of parts for road vehicles to be manufactured. 0 IS0 ISO/TR 8357:1996(E) 4.5 WMI and WPMI code a
9、ssignments 4.5.1 The National Organization shall assign upon request a code from the allotment of unregistered codes available to that country. 4.5.2 When the third character in the WMI is the number 9, which identifies a manufacturer producing fewer than 500 vehicles per year, the three-character m
10、anufacturers code, found in the VIS (vehicle indicator section), will be assigned according to IS0 3780. 4.5.3 If a manufacturer who is assigned a WMI or WPMI code becomes involved in a merger or acquisition, the following evaluation should be used to determine the necessity of assigning a new code
11、or codes. The final decision resides with the National Organization. a) If the manufacturers name is changed in substance, a new code is recommended. b) If the manufacturers name is not changed and the product maintains its total identity for such purposes as registration, licensing, titling and gov
12、ernment approval, the assigned code need not be changed. 5 Management and retention of code files 5.1 The National Organization shall forward a copy of each assigned and registered WMI and WPMI code to the International Agency (including manufacturers name, address and categories of vehicles or type
13、s of vehicle parts he will be producing). 5.2 Each National Organization is responsible for maintaining a master file of all WMI and WPMI codes assigned within its jurisdiction and for ensuring that once a code is assigned to a manufacturer, it will not be reassigned until 30 years after the code ha
14、s been cancelled by the manufacturer (i.e. no longer in production). 5.3 The International Agency is responsible for maintaining a master file of all WMI and WPMI codes assigned in the world and for publishing such lists biannually. 5.4 Each manufacturer is required to notify the National Organizati
15、on, which in turn will notify the International Agency, when the use of a WMI code or WPMI code has been definitively terminated. 6 Publications issued by the International Agency Biannually, or upon request, the International Agency will pubhsh the following information: - listing of WMI codes by c
