The terms used for condit
14、ions of urinary incontinence do not suggest a particular diagnosis and conform to the terminology recommended by the International Conti- nence Society Committee. 2 Terms and definitions 2.1 incontinence: Condition in which involuntary loss of urine is a social or hygienic problem and is objectively
15、 demonstrable. NOTE 1 Symptoms and signs alone may not disclose the cause of urinary incontinence. Accurate diagnosis often requires urodynamic investigation in addition to careful physical examination. 2.2 extra-urethral incontinence: Conditions in which in- voluntary loss of urine occurs through c
16、hannels other than the urethra. 2.3 urge incontinence: Symptom in which the involun- tary loss of urine is associated with a constant and urgent desire to void urine. NOTE2 Urge incontinence is most commonly associated with overactive detrusor function and less commonly associated with hypersensitiv

22、mum urethral pressure, due to elevation of intra-abdominal pressure and in the absence of detrusor contraction. NOTE 3 Stress incontinence is denoted bv both al a symptom, i.e. the patients statement of involuntary loss during physical exertion, and b) a sign, i.e. the observation of loss of urine f
23、rom the urethra synchronous with physical exertion such as coughing. 2.5 reflex incontinence: Condition in which the involun- tary loss of urine is due to detrusor hyper-reflexia and/or involuntary urethral relaxation. NOTE 4 This condition occurs in neurogenic disorders and in the absence of sensat
24、ion is usually associated with the desire to void urine. 2.6 overflow incontinence: Condition in which involun- tary loss of urine is associated with over-distension of the bladder. NOTE5 This may or may not be associated with detrusor contraction. 2.7 nocturnal enuresis: Condition in which there is
