Itappliestofresh,ra
10、wdried,wetsalted,drysaltedorpickledsheepskins. 2 Classificationanddesignation 2.1General Rawsheepskins(woolon)areclassifiedasfollows: a)lamb skins; b)sheep skins. Theseskinsarefurtherdividedintofollowingsubcategories: 2.2Lamb skins 2.2.1Astrakhan skins Newbornlambskins,characterizedbythetightcurlsof
11、thefleece,obtainedfromlambsofthekarakulbreed slaughteredbeforethefifthdayoflifeinordertopreservethecurlswhichwouldbreakuprapidlyafterfewmore daysoflife. NOTE Thistypeofskin,fromahealthybornanimal,shouldnotbeconfusedwithaBreitschwanzskin(see2.2.2). 2.2.2Breitschwanz skins Obtainedfromthefoetusofanani
12、malofthisbreedwhentheeweiskilledformeat2to3weeksbeforethebirthis due(thecurlsofthefleecearenotfullydevelopedandareinrows,formingpatternsofalternatecurlyareasand smooth,glossyareasofstraightwool). 2.2.3Lessac skins Skinsfromafourmonthfoetus,withcompletelysmooth,straightwoolseveralmillimetreslong.ISO4
13、6832:1999(E) ISO 2 2.2.4Stillbornlamb skins Skinsofstillbornlambsoroflambsthathavediedshortlyafterbirth. 2.2.5 Skinsofmilklambs Skinsoflambswhichhavebeenfedonlyonmilkandslaughteredattheageof4to5weeks. 2.2.6 Skinsofwhitelambs(laitons) Skinsoflambsraisedinasheepfold,fedwithmilkandthenwithotherfood.The
14、lambsarefourmonthsoldatthe most,andunshorn,whenslaughtered,andtheirwoolisshorterthanthatofordinarylambsofthesamebreed. 2.2.7 Skinsofweanedlambs Skinsoflambsnotmorethanayearold,weanedandusuallyraisedintheopenair.Thelambsareslaughtered unshornandhavelonger,denserwoolthanthatofawhitelamb,andslightlywis
15、py.Insomecountries,suchlambs areknownashoggets. 2.3Sheep skins 2.3.1 Shornwoolskins Skinsofshornsheep.Theseskinsaregradedandnamedaccordingtothelengthofthewoolandaccordingtothe requirementsofthebuyerandtheseller.Thegradingsystemandthenamesusedvaryfromcountrytocountry. 2.3.2 Wooledsheepskins Skinsofal
16、readyshornsheepinwhichthelengthofthewoolisgreaterthan60mm,ortheskinsofoneyearold sheep(antenais)whichhavenotbeenshorn. NOTE Thelimitof60mmgiveninthisdefinitionisvalidforbreedsinwhichtheaveragefinenessofthefleeceisbetween approximately22 m mand31 m m. 3Presentation Theskinsshallbegroupedtogetherinsim
17、ilarlotsandeachlotdesignatedbythetypeofskinofwhichitismade up. Presentation(ortrim)istheformgiventotheskinforsubsequentuse.Thepresentationofsheepskinsshallbeas follows: Theskinsshallbewithoutthehead,possiblywiththeears(seethenote),butwithoutteats,legs,tail,pisselor uddersandwithexcessivefatremovedfr
18、omthereargusset.Theskinsshallbepresentedflat,withthelineofthe backboneinthemiddle.Theshanksshallbetrimmed.
