Scope1.1 This specification covers chemical and mechanical re-quirements for nine property classes of carbon and alloy steelmetric rivets in nominal diamet

    3、ers M01 through M36 suited foruse in general engineering applications.1.2 This specification does not cover dimensional require-ments for rivets of any property class. When referencing thisspecification for procurement purposes, it is mandatory thatsize, type, style, and any special dimensions of th

    4、e product beadditionally specified.1.2.1 In case of any conflict in requirements, the require-ments of the individual product specification shall take prece-dence over those of this general specification.1.2.2 The purchaser may specify additional requirementswhich do not negate any of the provisions

    5、 of this generalspecification or of the individual product specification. Suchadditional requirements, the acceptance of which are subject tonegotiation with the supplier, must be included in the orderinformation (see Section 3).1.3 When agreed on by the purchaser, Class 5.8 fastenersmay be supplied

Materials and Manufacture4.1 Steel for rivets shall b

    16、ommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.14.2 Heading Practice:4.2.1 Methods other than upsetting or extrusion, or both, arepermitted only by special agreement between purchaser andproducer.4.3 Heat Treatment:4.3.1 Class 3.6, 4.6, 4.8, 5.6 and 5

    17、.8 rivets need not be heattreated.4.3.2 Classes 4.8, 5.6 and 5.8 rivets shall be stress relievedif necessary to assure the soundness of the head to shankjunction. When stress relieving is specified by the purchaser,Class 5.8 rivets shall be stress relieved at a minimum stress-relief temperature of 4

    18、70 C. Where higher stress-relief tem-peratures are necessary to relieve stresses in severely upsetheads, mechanical requirements shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and producer.4.3.3 Classes 8.8, and 9.8 rivets shall be heat treated byquenching in a liquid medium from above the transformation

    19、temperature and reheating to the tempering temperature givenin Table 1.4.3.4 Classes 10.9, rivets shall be heat treated by quenchingin oil from above the transformation temperature and reheatingto the tempering temperature given in Table 1.4.4 Zinc Coatings, Hot-Dip, and Mechanically Deposited:4.4.1

    26、 9.8 and 10.9DFor the materials of these property classes, there shall be a sufficient hardenability to ensure a structure consisting of approximately 90 % martensite in the core of theshaft of the rivet in the “as-hardened” condition before tempering.EThis alloy steel shall contain at least one of

    27、the following elements in the minimum quantity given: chromium 0,30 %, nickel 0,30 %, molybdenum 0,20 %, vanadium 0,10%. Where elements are specified in combinations of two, three or four and have alloy contents less than those given above, the limit value to be applied for steel classdetermination

    31、fied, the fasten-ers shall be zinc coated by the mechanical deposition processin accordance with the requirements of Class 55 of Specifica-tion B695 and be hexavalent chromium free.5. Chemical Composition5.1 Material analyses may be made by the purchaser fromfinished products representing each lot.

    32、The chemical compo-sition thus determined shall conform to the requirementsspecified for the product analysis in Table 1.5.2 Use of heats of steel to which bismuth, selenium,tellurium, or lead has been intentionally added shall not bepermitted.5.3 Chemical analyses shall be performed in accordancewi

    33、th Test Methods, Practices, and Terminology A751.6. Mechanical Properties6.1 Rivets shall be tested in accordance with the mechanicaltesting requirements for the applicable type, property class,size, and length of product, and shall meet the mechanicalrequirements specified for that product in Table

    34、 2.6.2 For products on which both hardness and tension testsare performed, acceptance based on tensile requirements shalltake precedence over low readings of hardness tests.7. Workmanship7.1 Surface discontinuity limits shall be in accordance withSpecification F788/F788M.8. Number of Tests8.1 Testin

    35、g Responsibility:8.1.1 Each lot shall be tested by the manufacturer prior toshipment in accordance with the production lot identification-control quality assurance plan in 8.28.5.8.1.2 When rivets are furnished by a source other than themanufacturer, the responsible party, as defined in 12.1 shall b

    36、eresponsible for ensuring that all tests have been performed andthe fasteners comply with the requirements of this specifica-tion.8.2 Purpose of Lot InspectionThe purpose of a lot inspec-tion program is to ensure that each lot conforms to therequirements of this specification. For such a plan to be

    37、fullyeffective, it is essential that secondary processors, distributors,and purchasers maintain the identification and integrity of eachlot until the product is installed.8.3 Lot ProcessingAll rivets shall be processed in accor-dance with a lot identification-control quality assurance plan.The manuf

    38、acturer, secondary processors, and distributors shallidentify and maintain the integrity of each lot of fasteners fromraw material selection through all processing operations andtreatments to final packing and shipment. Each lot shall beassigned its own lot identification number, each lot shall bete

    39、sted, and the inspection test reports for each lot shall beretained.8.4 Lot Definition:8.4.1 Standard LotA lot shall be a quantity of uniquelyidentified fastener product of the same nominal size and lengthproduced consecutively at the initial operations from a singlemill heat of material and heat tr

    40、eatment lot and processed atone time by the same process in the same manner so thatstatistical sampling is valid. The identity of the lot and lotintegrity shall be maintained throughout all subsequent opera-tions and packaging.8.4.2 Lots of 2000 Pieces or FewerOrders for 2000 piecesor fewer of the s

    41、ame nominal diameter but varying in lengththat has been processed essentially under the same conditionsfrom the same mill heat of material and submitted for inspec-tion at one time are considered a lot for purposes of preparinga single test report.8.5 Number of TestsThe minimum number of tests frome

    43、 testing frequency.9. Test Methods9.1 Rivets shall be tested in accordance with the methodsdescribed in Test Methods F606/F606M.10. Inspection10.1 If the inspection described in 10.2 is required by thepurchaser, it shall be specified in the inquiry, order, or contract.10.2 The inspector representing

    44、 the purchaser shall havefree entry to all parts of the manufacturers works that concernthe manufacture of the material ordered. The manufacturershall afford the inspector all reasonable facilities to satisfy theinspector that the material is being furnished in accordancewith this specification. All

    45、 tests and inspection shall be madeprior to shipment, and shall be so conducted as not to interfereunnecessarily with the operation of the work.11. Responsibility11.1 The party responsible for the rivet shall be the organi-zation that supplies the rivet to the purchaser.12. Rejection and Rehearing12

    46、.1 Disposition of nonconforming material shall be inaccordance with Guide F1470 section titled “Disposition ofNonconforming Lots.”13. Certification13.1 When specified on the purchase order, the manufac-turer or supplier, whichever is the responsible party in accor-dance with Section 11, shall furnis

    47、h the purchaser a test reportthat includes the following:13.1.1 Product description, grade, quantity, ASTM specifi-cation number, and issue date;13.1.2 Heat analysis and heat number;13.1.3 Results of the hardness and tensile tests;F3329 18313.1.4 Statement of compliance with protective coatingspecif

    48、ication;13.1.5 Statement of compliance with the surface disconti-nuity requirements of Specification F788/F788M;13.1.6 Report, describe, or illustrate manufacturer mark-ings;13.1.7 Lot number, purchase order number, and dateshipped;13.1.8 Complete mailing address of responsible party; and13.1.9 Titl

    49、e and signature of the individual assigned certi-fication responsibility by the company officers.13.2 Failure to include all the required information on thetest report shall be cause for rejection.14. Product Marking14.1 Rivets:14.1.1 Rivets shall be marked permanently and clearly toidentify the property class. The property class symbols andsizes to be marked shall be as given in Table 3.14.1.2 Markings shall be located on the extreme end of therivet and may be raised or depressed at the option of themanufacturer.15.
