、2009) Nomenclature System For Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite Materials. It was originally developed by The Aluminum Association and submitted to American National Standards Committee H35 on Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys for recognition as an American National Standard under the Accredited Standards

、Committee Method. This Standard was developed to provide users, producers and other interested parties with a means of briefl y describing aluminum matrix composites utilizing the already existing Alloy and Temper Designation Systems for Aluminum, American National Standard H35.1 / H35.1(M).ANSI H35.

、520133III. Nomenclature SystemThe designation system will consist of four parts:QA. The matrix alloy designation will employ The Aluminum Association designation for the alloy (up to 6 characters) and will be separated from the remainder of the composite designation with a slash (/).B. The compositi

、on of the reinforcement will be given by the appropriate chemical designation without the use of subscripts and will be separated from the remainder of the composite designation by a second slash (/). Common examples are C for graphite, SiC for silicon carbide and Al2O3 for Al2O3.C. The volume perce

、nt of the reinforcement will have two characters. If it is less than 10, the fi rst character will be a zero.D. The type of reinforcement will be allowed one character which will be lower case. The character to be used for each type of reinforcement is defi ned in Section II.C.Examples are:6063/Al2O

、3/15p where 6063 is the matrix alloy, Al2O3is the reinforcement material, 15 is the volume percent Al2O3and p is particle reinforcement.7075/C/05c where 7075 is the matrix alloy, graphite is the reinforcement, 5 is the volume percent graphite and c is a chopped fi lament.A356.0/SiC/20w where A356.0

、is the matrix alloy, silicon carbide is the reinforcement material, 20 is the volume percent SiC, and w is whisker reinforcement.QGeneric temper designation in accordance with ANSI H35.1 can be added to the end of the MMC designation. The letter “P” is added to the end of generic temper designation

、when applied to MMC designations as called for in ANSI H35.1/H35.1(M), A4(d). The fi rst example above, if solution heat treated and artifi cially aged to substantially full strength could be written: 6063/Al203/15p-T6P.Nomenclature System for Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite Materials (ANSI H35.5-20

、13)I. ScopeThis describes a nomenclature system for designating Alumi-num Metal Matrix Composites, including indentifi cation of:1. The matrix composition, and2. The type, volume percent and composition of the reinforcement material.II. Defi nitionsA. Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite1. It must be a m

、anufactured combination of at least two chemically distinct materials, one of which must be an aluminum or an aluminum alloy, with a distinct interface separating the constituents.2. For the purpose of this designation system, the characteristic dimension of the reinforcing phase must exceed 0.1 m a

、nd the reinforcing phase must be at least 2 volume percent of the composite.3. Laminates, clad metals or honeycomb sandwiches are not considered Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites for the purpose of this defi nition.B. Aluminum MatrixThe composition of the aluminum or aluminum alloy matrix component s

、hall be registered with The Aluminum Association in accordance with ANSI H35.1.C. Types of Reinforcement1. Type f: These composites are reinforced with continuous fi bers, fi laments or monofi laments.2. Type p: These composites are reinforced with particles.3. Type w: These composites are reinforced with whiskers with 1/d ratios between 4 and 200.4. Type c: These composites are reinforced with cut or chopped fi bers, fi laments or monofi laments.ANSI H35.520134
