、1 IEC:2003(E) 3 INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION_CABLE NETWORKS FOR TELEVISION SIGNALS,SOUND SIGNALS AND INTERACTIVE SERVICES Part 7-1: Hybrid Fibre Coax Outside Plant status monitoring Physical (PHY) layer specificationFOREWORD1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a wor

、ldwide organization for standardization comprisingall national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. Tothis end and in addition to other act

、ivities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IECPublication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interestedin the subject d

、ealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closelywith the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determine

、d byagreement between the two organizations.2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an internationalconsensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from allinterested IEC National Committees.3)

、IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC NationalCommittees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IECPublications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are us

、ed or for anymisinterpretation by any end user.4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publicationstransparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergencebetween any IEC Publication and the corre

、sponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated inthe latter.5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for anyequipment declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication.6) All users should ensure that they have the lates

、t edition of this publication.7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts andmembers of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage orother damage of any nature whatsoever, whether

、direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) andexpenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IECPublications.8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications isindispensa

IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.International Standard IEC 60728-7-1 has

、irements for The Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) Outside Plant(OSP) Physical (PHY) Layer Specification and is part of the series of specifications developedby the Hybrid Management Sub-Layer (HMS) subcommittee under the SCTE. The purpose ofthe HMS specification is to support the design and implementation of

、 interoperablemanagement systems for evolving HFC cable networks. The HMS Physical (PHY) LayerSpecification describes the physical layer portion of the protocol stack used forcommunication between HMS-compliant transponders interfacing to managed outside plantnetwork elements (NE) and a centralized

、head-end element (HE).This standard describes the PHY layer requirements that must be implemented by all Type 2and Type 3 compliant OSP HMS transponders on the HFC plant and the controlling equipmentin the head-end. Any exceptions to compliance with this standard will be specifically notedherein as

、necessary. Refer to Table 1 for a full definition of the type classifications.Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is not specified in this standard and is left to the vendorto ensure compliance with local EMC regulatory requirements. Other than operatingtemperature, physical parameters such as shock

、, vibration, humidity, etc., are also notspecified and left to the vendors discretion.Transponder type classifications referenced within the HMS series of standards are defined inTable 1.Table 1 Transponder type classificationsType Description ApplicationType 0Refers to legacy transponderequipment,
