    13、quirements cover electric turnstile operators and systems rated 250 V or less to be employedin ordinary locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 intended for permanentsupply connection.1.2 The rotating member of the turnstiles greater than 13 lb (6 kg) require further inves

    14、tigation.1.3 These requirements do not cover doors, gates, and other such assemblies that include electricopening and closing equipment that are covered in the Standard for Door, Drapery, Gate, Louver, andWindow Operators and Systems, UL 325.1.4 These requirements also cover accessories, such as ext

    15、ernal entrapment protection devices, for usewith equipment covered by this Outline of Investigation.1.5 Turnstiles intended for exit use as defined in the Life Safety Code, NFPA 101 and codes such as theInternational Building Code, are additionally subject to design requirements specific to such use

    16、.1.6 These requirements do cover security or prevention from access.2 Terminology2.1 In the following text, a requirement that only applies to a specific type or types of equipment isidentified by a specific reference in the requirement to the type or types of equipment covered by therequirement. In

    17、 the absence of a specific reference, or if the term operator is used, it is understood thatthe requirement applies to all types of equipment within the scope of this Outline of Investigation.3 Glossary3.1 For the purpose of these requirements, the following definitions apply.3.2 AUTOMATIC ACTION Th

    18、at action of an automatic control in which the transmission andoperation are produced by initiation which is not the result of actuation.3.3 AUXILIARY CONTROLS A nonessential control employed by a product that provides a functionalutility but is not required in order for the product to comply with a

    19、ll applicable requirements of thisOutline of Investigation.3.4 CLASS 2 CIRCUIT An isolated secondary circuit involving a potential of not more than 30 V(42.4 V peak) supplied by:a) A Class 2 circuit per 14.4.3;b) A combination of an isolated transformer secondary winding and a fixed impedance orregu

    20、lating network that together comply with the performance requirements for an inherently-limited Class 2 transformer;c) A dry-cell battery having output characteristics not greater than those of an inherently-limitedClass 2 transformer;APRIL 26, 2011 SUBJECT 2593 5UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZ

    21、ED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULd) Any combination of (a), (b), and (c) above that together comply with the performancerequirements for an inherently-limited Class 2 transformer; ore) One or more combinations of a Class 2 transformer and an overcurrent protective

    22、 devicethat together comply with the performance requirements for a noninherently-limited Class 2transformer.A line-connected circuit connected in series with an impedance as a means of limiting the voltage andcurrent is not a Class 2 circuit.3.5 ENTRAPMENT The condition when an object is caught or

    23、held in a position that increases therisk of injury.3.6 INHERENT ENTRAPMENT PROTECTION SYSTEM An operator control which providesprotection against entrapment upon sensing an object and is incorporated as a permanent and integralpart of a system.3.7 OPERATING CONTROL A control where the operation of

    24、which starts or regulates theequipment during normal operation. A regulating control is an operating control.3.8 MANUAL CONTROL A control that requires direct human interaction to activate or rest thecontrol.3.9 PROTECTIVE CONTROL A control where the operation of which is intended to prevent the ris

    25、kof electric shock, fire, or injury under abnormal operation of the equipment and including entrapmentduring normal and abnormal operation. A limiting control is a protective control.3.10 SYSTEM In the context of these requirements, a system refers to a group of interacting devicesintended to perfor

    26、m a common function.3.11 TURNSTILE OPERATOR A form of motor driven pedestrian gate which allows one person topass at a time. It can also be made so as to enforce one-way traffic of people.3.12 TURNSTILE SYSTEM A turnstile operator provided with all parts that complete the assemblyincluding the movin

    27、g members.3.13 TYPE 1.D ACTION The actuation of a manual reset control of 3.8 designed so thatdisconnection can neither be prevented nor inhibited, by any reset mechanism and so that afterdisconnection, it is not possible to reclose the circuit even momentarily while the excess or faultcondition per

    28、sists.3.14 TYPE 1.H ACTION The actuation of a manual control of 3.8, that shall be so designed that thecontacts cannot be prevented from opening and which may automatically reset to the closed position ifthe reset means is held in the reset position. The control shall not reset automatically at anyt

    29、emperature above -31F (-35C) with the reset mechanism in the normal position.3.15 TYPE 2 ACTION The actuation of an automatic control of 3.2, for which the manufacturingdeviation and the drift of its operating value, operating time, or operating sequence are considered.APRIL 26, 2011SUBJECT 25936UL

Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.5 References5.1 Any undated reference to a code or st

    31、andard appearing in the requirements of this outline shall beinterpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.CONSTRUCTION6 General6.1 Equipment shall employ materials that are acceptable for the use and shall be made and finished withthe degree of uniformity and grade of work

    32、manship practicable in a well-equipped factory.6.2 Equipment shall be formed and assembled so that it will have the strength and rigidity necessary toresist the abuses to which it is likely to be subjected, without increasing its risk of fire, electric shock, orinjury to persons due to total or part

    33、ial collapse with resulting reduction of spacings, loosening ordisplacement of parts, or other serious defects.6.3 A component of a product covered by this Standard shall:a) Comply with the requirements for that component as indicated elsewhere in this Standard;b) Be used in accordance with its rati

    34、ng established for the intended conditions of use;c) Be used within its established use limitations or conditions of acceptability;d) Additionally comply with the applicable requirements of this end product Standard; ande) Not contain mercury, unless used within a fluorescent, high intensity dischar

    35、ge, or neonlamp bulb.Exception No. 1: A component of a product covered by this Standard is not required to comply with aspecific component requirement that:a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct;b) Is superseded by a requirement in this

    36、 Standard; orc) Is separately investigated when forming part of another component, provided the componentis used within its established ratings and limitations.Exception No. 2: A component that complies with a component standard other than those cited elsewherein this Standard is acceptable if:a) Th

    38、nd overcurrent protection requirements in theNational Electrical Code, NFPA 70, where appropriate;2) Considers long-term thermal properties of polymeric insulating materials inaccordance with the Standard for Polymeric Materials Long Term PropertyEvaluations, UL 746B; and3) Any use limitations of th

    39、e other component UL standard are identified andappropriately accommodated in the end use application. For example, a componentused in a household application, but intended for industrial use and complying with therelevant component standard may assume user expertise not common in householdapplicati

    40、ons.6.4 A component that is also intended to perform other functions, such as overcurrent protection,ground-fault circuit-interruption, surge suppression, any other similar functions, or any combinationthereof, shall comply additionally with the requirements of the applicable UL standard that cover

    41、devicesthat provide those functions.6.5 A component not anticipated by the requirements of this Standard, not specifically covered by thecomponent standards cited in this Standard, and that involves a potential risk of electric shock, fire, orpersonal injury, shall be additionally investigated in ac

    42、cordance with the applicable standard, and shallcomply with 6.3 (b) (d).6.6 With regard to a component being additionally investigated, reference to construction andperformance requirements in another UL end product standard is appropriate where that standardanticipates normal and abnormal use condi

    43、tions consistent with the application of this Standard.7 Frame and Enclosure7.1 For an unreinforced flat surface, cast metal shall not be less than 1/8-in (3.2-mm) thick, except thatmalleable iron may be not less than 3/32-in (2.4-mm) thick, and die-cast metal may be not less than5/64-in (2.0-mm) th

    44、ick. Corresponding thicknesses of not less than 3/32, 1/16, and 3/64 in (2.4, 1.6, and1.2 mm), respectively, may be acceptable if the surface under consideration is curved, ribbed, orotherwise reinforced, or of a shape or size that provides mechanical strength equivalent to that required.7.2 An encl

    45、osure of sheet metal shall be evaluated with respect to size, shape, thickness of metal, andacceptability for the application considering the intended use of the complete equipment. The use of sheetsteel having a thickness of less than 0.026 in (0.66 mm) if uncoated or 0.029 in (0.74 mm) if galvaniz

    46、edor of nonferrous sheet metal having a thickness of less than 0.036 in (0.91 mm) is not acceptable.Exception: Minimum thickness is not specified for an area that is relatively small or a surface that iscurved or otherwise reinforced.7.3 Sheet metal to which a wiring system is to be connected in the

    47、 field shall have a thickness not lessthan 0.032 in (0.81 mm) if uncoated steel, not less than 0.034 in (0.86 mm) if galvanized steel and notless than 0.045 in (1.14 mm) if nonferrous.APRIL 26, 2011SUBJECT 25938UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PE

    48、RMISSION FROM UL7.4 The effects of the following factors shall be determined for compliance of a nonmetallic enclosure oran enclosure of magnesium that complies with 6.2, including enclosures of low-voltage circuits relied onfor entrapment protection:a) Mechanical strength;b) Resistance to impact;c)

    49、 Moisture-absorption properties;d) Combustibility;e) Resistance to distortion at temperatures to which the material is subjected under conditionsof normal or abnormal use; andf) Resistance to ultraviolet light, where applicable.7.5 The enclosure of equipment shall prevent molten metal, burning insulation, flaming particles, or thelike from falling on combustible materials, including the surface upon which the equipment is supported.7.6 The requirement in 7.5, will necessitate the use of a barrier of noncombustible material:a) Under a motor unless:
