Trim and drain valves are covered under the Outline ofInvestigation for Shutoff Valves for Trim and Drain Purposes, UL 258.1.3 The valves covered by these requirements are intended for installation and use in accordance withthe following Standards for:a) Low-, Medium-,

    19、arch 31, 20156.1 Valves shall be constructed for use with standard pipe of 3/4 NPS or larger.6.2 Valve sizes refer to the nominal pipe size, NPS, of the waterway through the inlet and outletconnections and to the nominal pipe size for which the connections are intended.7 Rated Pressure7 effective Ma

    20、rch 31, 20157.1 A valve shall be constructed for a minimum rated pressure of 175 psig (1206 kPa).8 Balls8 effective March 31, 20158.1 A valve ball shall be metallic and shall comply with one of the following:a) The ball shall be cast or fabricated from materials having corrosion resistance at leaste

    21、quivalent to brass, bronze, or ni-resist.b) The ball shall be fabricated from ductile iron having a nickel coating in accordance with theStandard Specification for Electroplated Engineering Nickel Coatings, ASTM B689 with at least0.003 inch (0.08 mm) thickness, or other metal or coating (including o

    22、ther nickel coatingprocesses with less thickness) that has at least equivalent corrosion resistance.c) The ball shall be fabricated from stainless steel material, Grade 316 or better, corrosionresistance, or brass, or bronze with chrome plating.8.2 The ball shall provide, when the valve is fully ope

    23、n, a waterway diameter equal to or greater than theinside diameter of a mating pipe.Exception: A valve providing a waterway having a diameter less than the diameter of the mating pipe ispermitted, if the valve incorporating such a waterway complies with the requirements of the Friction LossTest for

See Leakage Te

    25、st, Section 17.9.2 A nonmetallic seating surface shall comply with the requirements specified in Nonmetallic MaterialsTest, Section 16.10 Bodies10 effective March 31, 201510.1 The body of a valve shall be made of a metallic material having corrosion resistance at leastequivalent to cast iron.10.2 A

    26、casting shall be smooth and free from scale, lumps, cracks, blisters, sand holes, and defects ofany nature that could make it unfit for use. A casting shall not be plugged or filled, but shall be permittedto be impregnated to remove porosity.10.3 The dimensions of all flanges, flange pipe joints, an

    27、d threaded body openings shall conform to thefollowing standards, as applicable, or to other national standards that apply where the valve is intendedto be installed. The flange class shall be compatible with the rated pressure of the valve.a) Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.

    28、b) Dryseal Pipe Threads (Inch), ANSI/ASME B1.20.3.c) Gray Iron Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings, Classes 25, 125, and 250, ANSI/ASME B16.1(Class 125 or higher).d) Ductile Iron Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings, Class 150 and 300, ANSI/ASME B 16.42.e) Steel Pipe Flanges for Waterworks Service, Sizes

    31、 The stem of a valve shall be constructed of AISI Series 300 or 400 Stainless steel, brass, bronze,or material with equivalent strength and corrosion resistance.11.2 The stem shall be permitted to be constructed of carbon steel or equivalent material provided:a) The stem is not exposed to an interna

    32、l water source;b) The valve is installed in above ground applications only; andc) No binding, rubbing, or friction occurs between the shaft and body as a result of shaftcorrosion.11.3 The stem of a valve shall be capable of transmitting the maximum operating torque withoutexceeding a torsional shear

    33、 stress of:a) 40 percent of the yield strength, andb) 18 percent of the ultimate tensile strength of the shaft material.See Operation Tests, Section 20.12 Brass Materials12 effective March 31, 201512.1 Parts made of brass containing more than 15 percent zinc shall resist cracking. See 10-Day MoistAm

    34、monia Air Stress Cracking Test, Section 22.12.2 Parts where brass materials contact water under service conditions, not protected with a corrosionresistant coating, and containing more than 15 percent zinc shall resist dezincification.     35、tor Assemblies13 effective March 31, 201513.1 A valve shall be equipped with a worm gear or traveling nut actuator.13.2 An actuator shall be equipped with an indicating arrangement that will positively indicate when thevalve is in the open and closed position. The indicator shall be visible from two

    36、 positions 180 degreesapart, at a distance to 50 feet (15.2 m). The valve and the actuator shall be constructed so that the valvecannot be assembled with the indicator showing the ball orientation incorrectly.13.3 A valve incorporating an integral actuator/indicating arrangement as specified in 13.2

    37、 shall beconstructed such that it can be locked in the open position after installation.SEPTEMBER 2, 2014 UL 1091B 9UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL13.4 The actuator of a valve complying with 13.2 shall be:a) Sealed to prevent

    38、contamination of the actuator operating mechanism;b) Constructed to open and close the valve at the rated pressure with a maximum input of 80lbf-ft. (108 Nm) applied to the outside of the handwheel or the middle of the gripping portion ofthe crank.14 Electrically Operated Valve Monitor Switches14 ef

    39、fective March 31, 201514.1 An electrically operated switch assembly, intended to indicate a valves position, shall comply withthe applicable requirements in the Standard for Alarm Accessories for Automatic Water-Supply ControlValves for Fire Protection Service, UL 753. A switch assembly intended for

    40、 outdoor use shall also complywith the applicable requirements in the Standard for Manual Signaling Boxes for Fire Alarm Systems, UL38.14.2 A switch shall provide a signal within the first two revolutions of a valves handwheel in the directionof closing the valve.14.3 A valve position monitor switch

    41、 assembly shall be constructed to provide:a) Duplicate terminals or leads for each incoming and each outgoing alarm initiating circuitconnection; orb) Equivalent means to achieve electrical supervision.A common terminal may be used for connection of both incoming and outgoing wires, provided that th

    42、econstruction of the terminal does not permit an un-insulated section of a single conductor to be loopedaround the terminal and serve as two separate connections, thereby precluding supervision of theconnection in the event that the wire becomes dislodged from under the terminal. A notched clampingp

    43、late under a single securing screw, where separate conductors of an initiating circuit are intended to beinserted in each notch, is acceptable, but this arrangement shall be supplemented by additional markingin the wiring area or on the installation wiring diagram specifying the intended connections

    45、Samples of parts constructed of nonmetallic material, such as seals, are required for physical andchemical tests.16 Nonmetallic Materials Test16 effective March 31, 201516.1 Plastic or other nonmetallic parts (excluding rubber, synthetic elastomers, and coatings)16.1.1 Air oven aging16.1.1.1 After a

    46、ir-oven aging for 180 days at 121 1C (250 2F), or at the temperature determined in16.1.1.2, as appropriate, there shall be no warping, creeping, cracking, or other evidence of deteriorationof a plastic component which may impair the intended operation of the valve. Additionally, a valve withaged pla

    47、stic (or other like material) components shall comply with the applicable requirements in theLeakage Test, Section 17, the Hydrostatic Test, Section 18, and the Operation Tests Section 20.16.1.1.2 If a material cannot withstand the temperature specified in 16.1.1.1 without excessive softening,distor

    48、tion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a lower temperature for a longer period of time shallbe applied. If a material is capable of withstanding a higher temperature than that specified in 16.1.1.1without softening, distortion, or deterioration, an air-oven aging test at a higher temperat

    49、ure for a shorterperiod of time, but not less than 30 days, shall be permitted.
