9、s, the material shall be capable of withstanding thestresses likely to be encountered in actual service. Such parts shall be subjected to the Impact Test inaccordance with 61.5.1.4.28.4.14 A blender with a capacitive touch screen shall be constructed to reduce the risk of unintentionaloperation of t

12、d to the touchscreen with the blender in any stand-by mode is unable to contact the touch screen in an area that wouldinitiate operation of the blender.28.4.16 A blender touch screen provided with a two-step operation to reduce the risk of accidentaloperation as specified in 28.4.14 shall require tw
13、o separate actuations to start operation of the blenderand be provided with:a) A plainly identified one-step OFF or STOP function (See also 26.12 and Exception No. 3 of6.5.2.2);b) An indicator light or other visual indicator to indicate when the touch screen is in a conditionwhere a single touch is
14、needed to initiate operation of the blender (after Step 1);c) A time-out function on the first step of no longer than 30 seconds; andd) Instructions as specified in 73.2.2.28.4.17 With respect to 28.4.16, after the operation of the blender is manually stopped, or afterautomatically stopping at the c
15、ompletion of a programmed sequence, the blender shall return to acondition requiring a two-step function to initiate operation.28.4.18 With respect to 28.4.17, for a blender with a momentary contact pulse operation, Step 1 mayremain active as long as the duration between the Pulse operations is no m
16、ore than 30 seconds.61.5.1.4 The impact test in accordance with 61.5.3 shall also be conducted on breakable exterior surfacesas specified in 7.3.1. The blender shall then be subjected to the Overflow Test of 38.1 unless the blenderis no longer functional or the surface withstands the impact test wit

Avoid any contact with blades or moveableparts.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:A capacitive touch scre
22、en requires no force to activate, so unintentional (accidental) operation of theblender is a concern due to the risk of injury presented by the blender blades and, possibly, the drivecoupler. The 40 mm diameter probe is based on international requirements for unintentional operation ofcertain househ
23、old kitchen machines. The two-step ON function and 30 second timeout is based onexisting US appliance standards.In addition, the use of the touch screen introduces the use of breakable materials that may be acting apart of the enclosure. This surface shall be evaluated for mechanical strength by con
24、ducting the BallImpact Test. It is likely that a user will continue to use an appliance with a broken touch screen as longas the blender is still functional. Therefore, the Overflow Test is to be repeated if the Impact Test resultsin cracking or breaking of the touch screen surface.The capacitive to
25、uch screen user interface technology is more susceptible to electromagnetic interferencethan electromechanical switches or other electronic user interfaces. Therefore, the Electrostatic DischargeTest and Radiated Fields Test are conduct along with the component fault testing to evaluate the reliabil
