    3、d) Locations, UL 913 Eighth Edition, Dated December 6, 2013 Summary of Topics This revision to ANSI/UL 913 is being issued to include the following changes in requirements: Revisions to 7.1.2 and deletion of Table 7.1 per 2014 NEC Clarifying the issue of temperature classication for Class II and Cla

    4、ss III intrinsically safe apparatus for 9.3, 9.4 and 10.1 Text that has been changed in any manner or impacted by ULs electronic publishing system is marked with a vertical line in the margin. Changes in requirements are marked with a vertical line in the margin and are followed by an effective date

    5、 note indicating the date of publication or the date on which the changed requirement becomes effective. The revised requirements are substantially in accordance with Proposal(s) on this subject dated May 1, 2015 and August 28, 2015. All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced

    23、at paragraph can be found in Appendix A. 1 Scope 1.1 * These requirements apply to apparatus or parts of apparatus for installation and use in Class I, II, or III, Division 1 hazardous (classied) locations in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. 1.2 These requir

    24、ements also apply to apparatus or parts of apparatus for installation and use in Zone 20, Groups IIIA, IIIB, and IIIC hazardous (classied) locations in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. 1.3 * These requirements also cover associated apparatus located outside

    25、of the hazardous (classied) location whose design and construction may inuence the intrinsic safety of an electrical circuit within the hazardous (classied) location. 1.4 These requirements are based on consideration of ignition in locations classied as a hazardous location by the presence of ammabl

    26、e or combustible material under normal atmospheric conditions. 1.5 * For the purposes of this standard, normal atmospheric conditions are considered to be: a) An ambient temperature of 40C (104F); b) An oxygen concentration not greater than 21 percent by volume; and c) A pressure of one atmosphere.

    27、1.6 This standard does not cover apparatus based on high voltage electrostatic principles such as electrostatic paint spraying. 2 Undated References 2.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition

Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate informat

    29、ion. 4 Components 4.1 Except as indicated in 4.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. See Appendix B for a list of standards covering components generally used in the products covered by this standard. 4.2 A component is not requir

    30、ed to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 4.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating establishe

    31、d for the intended conditions of use. 4.4 Specic components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shall be used only under t

    32、hose specic conditions. 5 General 5.1 The purpose of this standard is to provide requirements for the construction and testing of electrical apparatus, or parts of such apparatus, having circuits that are not capable of causing ignition in Division 1 Hazardous (Classied) Locations as dened in Articl

    33、e 500 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70. 5.2 This standard is not to be considered an instruction manual for untrained persons. It is intended to promote uniformity of practice among those skilled in the eld of intrinsic safety. 5.3 Except where modied by the requirements of this standar

    34、d, intrinsically safe and associated apparatus shall comply with the applicable requirements for unclassied (ordinary) locations. 5.4 Enclosures for associated apparatus shall conform to the requirements of the location in which they are intended to be installed. 5.5 Apparatus for Class I, Division

    35、1, Groups A and/or B locations, shall comply with all the applicable requirements in UL 60079-0:2013 and UL 60079-11:2013 for Group IIC, level of protection ia . Exception: Marking of the apparatus sha

    37、ll meet the requirements of Section 10. 5.7 Apparatus for Class I, Division 1, Group D locations, shall comply with all the applicable requirements in UL 60079-0:2013 and UL 60079-11:2013 for Group IIA, level of protection ia . Exception: Marking of the apparatus shall meet the requirements of Secti

    38、on 10. 6 Zone Equivalency 6.1 General 6.1.1 The following Zone equivalency details address Class II, Division 1 and Class III intrinsically safe and associated apparatus for installation and use in Zone 20 hazardous (classied) locations in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical

    39、Code, NFPA 70. 6.1.2 Similar Zone equivalency details for Class I, Division 1 intrinsically safe and associated apparatus for installation and use in Class I, Zone 0 hazardous (classied) locations is not included. Based on the reference to UL 60079-11 and UL 60079-0 in this standard, Class I, Divisi

    40、on 1 intrinsically safe and associated apparatus that complies with the requirements in this standard can additionally or alternatively be marked in accordance with UL 60079-11 and UL 60079-0. 6.2 Zone 20, Group IIIA 6.2.1 Intrinsically safe and associated apparatus intended to be marked in accordan

    41、ce with 11.1 shall comply with all the applicable requirements for Class III hazardous (classied) locations as applicable. 6.3 Zone 20, Group IIIB 6.3.1 Intrinsically safe and associated apparatus intended to be marked in accordance with 11.2 shall comply with all the applicable requirements for Cla

    42、ss II, Group F, Group G or both Groups F and G hazardous (classied) locations as applicable.     43、ntended to be marked in accordance with 11.3 shall comply with all the applicable requirements for Class II, Group E hazardous (classied) locations as applicable. 7 Apparatus For Class II And Class III Locations 7.1 General 7.1.1 Intrinsically safe apparatus and associated wiring for Class II and Cl

    44、ass III locations shall comply with the requirements in Sections15i nthis standard, as applicable and shall also comply with the requirements of 7.1.2 and either 7.1.3 or 7.1.4. 7.1.2 * The temperature of exposed surfaces of apparatus shall be determined when tested according to the procedures descr

    45、ibed in 9.1 9.3. For this requirement, exposed means exposed to the ammable or combustible atmosphere or material. Parts within a dust-tight enclosure are not considered exposed; the outside surfaces of the enclosure are exposed. Exception: Temperatures of small components under fault conditions sha

    46、ll be permitted to exceed these limits if it is shown by test that such higher temperatures will not result in ignition or charring. Table 7.1 Maximum apparatus surface temperatures Table 7.1 deleted 7.1.3 Except as specied in 7.1.4, intrinsically safe apparatus for use in Class II, Groups E, F, and

    47、 G locations shall be enclosed in a dust-tight enclosure that complies with the requirements in 7.2.1 7.2.3. In addition, the apparatus shall also comply with the spark ignition requirements for Class I, Group D or for methane. See 5.7. 7.1.4 * Intrinsically safe apparatus for use in Class II, Group

    48、s E, F, and G locations not enclosed in a dust-tight enclosure complying with the requirements in 7.2.1 7.2.3 shall comply with the spark ignition requirements specied in 7.1.3. In this case, it is to be assumed that all spacings do not comply with the separation distance requirements specied in UL

    49、60079-11:2013 and that all connections between live or grounded parts and conductors are in the most unfavorable condition. The number of such connections is unlimited. Exception: Intrinsically safe apparatus for use in Class II, Group E locations need not be enclosed in a dust-tight enclosure complying with the requirements in 7.2.1 7.2.3 when the apparatus complies with the UL 60079-11:2013 requirements for total immersion, or uncontrolled dust layer thickness.
