5、erapplicable standards.SUPPLEMENT SI - REQUIREMENTS FOR TYPE IC LED DRIVERSSI1 ScopeSI1.1 These requirements apply to Type IC LED drivers. These requirements cover LED drivers withspecific construction features, additional performance requirements and additional marking requirements.SI1.2 In this su
6、pplement, the term “driver” refers to a Type IC LED driver unless otherwise noted.SI2 DefinitionsSI2.1 INSULATION CONTACT A location where a device is intended to be covered by or come incontact with thermal insulation in a building cavity during normal use (e.g. the outer surface of LED driverthat
7、forms part a Type IC luminaire).SI2.2 Type IC LED driver- A LED driver that is intended for installations with direct insulation contact.SI3 ConstructionSI3.1 Type IC LED drivers are limited to the following design types:a) A conduit connected driver,b) A driver intended for installation on or over
8、an outlet box where the outlet box will serve tocomplete the enclosure of the equipment under test, orc) A driver intended for installation to an exterior surface of a luminaire where the luminaire willserve to complete the enclosure of the equipment under test.UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED

10、t-sinking for compliance with the requirements of this supplement;andb) The driver shall be formed from metal and be provided with both an integral fire andelectrical enclosure in accordance with the applicable requirements described in the followingsections;1. 6.2 (Metal parts),2. 6.3A (Metal enclo
11、sures intended for conduit connection),3. 6.4.1 (enclosure openings- all exceptions apply),4. 6.5 (Conductor protection),5. 6.6 (Strain relief) and6. 6.7 (Potting compound).c) The driver shall be provided with supply connections that comply with 7.4.1 and 7.4.2.1 (i.e.,conduit connection).Exception:
12、 A driver that is intended for installation on or over an outlet box shall be provided with supplyconnections that comply with 7.4.1 and 7.4.2.2 to 7.4.2.4 (i.e. field-wiring leads, field-wiring terminals, orpush-in terminals).d) The driver shall be provided with load connections that comply with 7.
13、4.1 and 7.4.4.e) Integral wiring terminals and lead wires shall be suitable for at least 90C (194F).f) The driver shall comply with grounding and bonding requirements of 7.2A.SI4 PerformanceSI4.1 GeneralSI4.1.1 Type IC LED drivers shall comply with all applicable performance requirements of this sta
14、ndardand the additional criteria in this section.SI4.1.2 During these tests the driver shall be operated in its worst-case normal operating conditions, asdefined by its markings and electrical ratings.SI4.2 Temperature testSI4.2.1 In addition to the criteria in 8.3, the temperature on any point on t

16、3.1 The driver shall be tested according to the Type IC temperature test described in UL 1598 sectionRecessed luminaires - supplementary requirements with the following modifications;a) The temperature test box shall be constructed according to UL 1598 requirements forTemperature test box for Type I
17、C recessed luminaries except that, since the driver will notinclude a light source, the bottom surface of the temperature test box shall have no holes,b) The LED driver shall be otherwise prepared according to the criteria in 8.3,c) Testing shall be performed at ambient temperatures for Remote equip
18、ment in Table 8.2andc) Testing shall be performed at ambient temperatures for Remote equipment in Table 8.2andd) The LED driver output shall be loaded to maximum rated values with the load located outsideof the temperature test box connected via interconnect leads.SI4.3.2 During this test, in additi
19、on to compliance with criteria in 8.3, the temperature on any point on theexterior surface of the driver shall not exceed 90C (194F).SI4.3.3 During this test, driver operation shall not be interrupted by the functioning of an integral orexternal protective device (e.g. overtemperature protective dev
20、ices such as thermal links andautomatically resetting (thermostatic) type protectors, electronic protective circuits or overcurrentprotective devices such as fuses), also see 8.3.7.SI5 MarkingSI5.1 A driver that complies with all the applicable requirements for Type IC LED drivers shall be marked“Ty
21、pe IC LED driver”.SI5.2 A driver marked “Type IC LED driver” shall also be marked “For Connections Use Wire Rated for atLeast 90C (194F)” or equivalent.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:This Certification Requirement Decision (CRD) documents the construction, performance and markingrequirements for Type IC LED
22、 drivers. By definition a Type IC LED driver is intended to be integrated intoa recessed type LED luminaire in a manner where the LED driver enclosure will come in contact withinsulation.Luminaire manufacturers can leverage the additional evaluation that has been performed for Type IC LEDdrivers to
23、reduce 1) the work to qualify new recessed Type IC LED luminaire designs, and 2) the work toqualify alternate LED drivers for established Type IC LED luminaire designs.Compliance with these requirements is solely based on the manufacturers request. LED drivers that donot have the Type IC LED driver
24、engineering marking can be integrated into recessed Type IC LEDluminaires, based on end product evaluation and testing (e.g. by using the UL 1598 supplementaryrequirements for recessed luminaires).The construction requirements are limited to designs specified in SI3.1. Other LED drivers designs are
