10、cific requirement that addresses light/luminaire assemblies inSection 91.8.A construction not anticipated by UL 507 is a rangehood that is capable of being raised and lowered fromthe ceiling surface, and provided with a luminaire module that is intended to be permanently mounted tothe ceiling above
11、the rangehood. The present requirements in UL 507 and referenced in UL 1598 addressa luminaire/light when an integral part of the rangehood intended to be near the cooking surface, but UL507 rangehood requirements did not anticipate this type of construction for a ceiling mounted luminaire“module” t
12、hat is sold with the rangehood and intended to be installed and wired together in the field, yetmounted separately from the rangehood.When the luminaire portion is ceiling mounted, the operating environment is not as severe as would be atthe bottom of a rangehood in close proximity to the cooking su
13、rface. Based on this particular type ofinstallation, the risk and potential hazards are to be addressed with a combination of the relevantrequirements from UL 507 and UL 1598, with greater allowance for constructions that would be permittedunder UL 1598 for a luminaire that was sold separately and i
14、ntended for mounting in a residential kitchenarea.
