3、of Masking tape During Preparation of SamplesDECISION:4.4.3 For roof covering materials with factory-applied adhesives, are to be sealed by placing thecompleted test assemblies are to be placed in a conditioning cell at a temperature of 57 60C (135 140F) for a continuous period of 16 hours. To avoid
4、 damage when examining tested samples, preventthe self-seal adhesive from adhering by covering it with masking tape or other similar type material. Afterconditioning, the test assemblies are to be allowed to cool to room temperature. Care is to be taken toavoid disturbing shingle tabs or causing any
5、 twisting or distortion of the test panels in handling.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:The current Standard, as written, requires that roof-covering materials with factory-applied adhesives besealed by placing the sample in a conditioning cell at the required temperatures for 16 hours.However, based on many
6、years of testing experience, it has become common test practice of testlaboratories cover the self-sealing adhesive with masking tape or other similar types on materials. Thepurpose of this practice is to prevent the self-seal adhesive from actually adhering, which would in mostcases lead to damage
