The installation instruc
4、tions shall include information onsupply wiring, proper connection to the supply circuit, and bonding. When the unit is rated for use withmore than one supply voltage or with multiple supply circuits, appropriate instructions shall be providedfor each application.73.1.1 The following instructions sh
5、all be provided as printed material:a) The instructions pertaining to a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons as required by73.6 73.7 and Section 74; andb) A minimum set of installation and operating instructions, such as a quick start guide, thatincludes the instructions required by 73
6、.1 73.4.73.1.2 All other instructions may be provided in electronic read-only media format only, such as a DVD,website, flash drive or CD-ROM. If any electronic media instructions are provided, the instructions andwarning statements required by Section 74 shall also be included within the electronic
7、 media instructions.73.1.3 The printed instructions shall contain detailed instructions of how to obtain a printed copy of thematerial contained in electronic format.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:UL 1563 specifies that instructions (installation, operating, user-maintenance and important safety) shallbe pr
8、ovided with the spa. In the past, these instructions in their entirety have been provided in hard copyprinted format. Manufacturers have requested some of this information be provided by other means toreduce the amount of printed materials. Manufacturers have indicated the use of a company websiteac
9、cessing some of these materials would be effective for these types of products.UL considered the option of the use of electronic media for all of the mandated instructions. 10、UCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULInstallation Instructions The mitigation of the risk of electric shock and fire in Spas, EquipmentAssemblies and the like depend greatly on the proper installation. Of particular interest are the grounding,equipotential bonding, supply circuit overcurr
11、ent protection ampere rating and ground-fault protection. Abasic set of installation instruction should therefore be provided with each unit. A reference to electronicmedia could be used to provide details for more unique installation situations.Operating Instructions After consideration of the matt
12、er UL believes electronic media would beeffective for some but not all of the operating instructions. This proposal would authorize all the operatinginstructions except those warning instructions relating to water heaters and the risk of hyperthermia(clauses 73.6 and 73.7).User-Maintenance Instructi
13、ons Most Spas have little user maintenance relating to the electricalaspects of the unit. Most of the user-maintenance is with regards to sanitation and water chemistry bothof which are not detailed in UL 1563. This proposal would therefore authorize the use of electronic mediafor the user-maintenan
14、ce instructions.Important Safety InstructionsThe Important Safety Instructions specified in Section 74 would still be required to be provided with eachunit in printed form.The Use of Electronic Media in General UL notes that although the use of electronic media as adistribution mechanism would be ef
15、fective in many cases, a small percentage of the population has nocomputer access.
