    18、N FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover nonrellable (disposable) aerosol type metal container assemblies, charged with a commercial grade hydrocarbon fuel gas (primarily butane), constructed, charged, and marked in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Specicatio

    19、n 2P or 2Q. 1.2 Nonrellable type metal container assemblies covered by these requirements are used with equipment for such purposes as, but not limited to, camping, cooking, heating, lighting, soldering, or brazing, and as covered in the following standards: a) Liqueed Petroleum Gas Code, NFPA 58-20

    20、04. b) Standard for Hand-Held Torches for Fuel Gases, UL 147. 1.2 revised February 10, 2005 1.3 These requirements do not cover DOT 39 specication cylinder assemblies covered by the requirements in the Standard for Nonrellable (Disposable) Type Fuel Gas Cylinder Assemblies, UL 147A. 2 General 2.1 Co

    21、mponents 2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of

    22、 the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard. 2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.1.4 Specic components are incomplete in construction features or restricted i

    23、n performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shall be used only under those specic conditions.     25、 this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 3 Glossary 3.1 For the purpose of this standard the following denitions apply. 3.2 BUTANE A liqueed petroleum gas composed predominantly of two isomeric forms, normal or ISO-, either by themselves or as

    26、mixtures where the vapor pressure does not exceed that for commercial butane in accordance with the Standard Specication for Liqueed Petroleum (LP) Gases, ASTM D1835 REV A-2003. 3.2 revised February 10, 2005 3.3 CONTAINER Inside nonrellable metal canister that complies with the specication for Insid

    27、e Containers and Linings constructed under Subpart B of Part 178 of the DOT Regulations and similar specications of the CTC Regulations. 3.4 CTC REGULATIONS The Canadian Transport Commission (CTC) Regulations for the Transportation of Dangerous Commodities by Rail. 3.5 DOT REGULATIONS The U.S. Depar

    28、tment of Transportation (DOT) Regulations for the Transportation of Hazardous Materials, under Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 49, Parts 100- 199. 3.5 revised February 10, 2005 3.6 PRESSURE-RELIEF DEVICE A pressure or temperature, or both, activated device used to prevent the pressure from r

    29、ising a predetermined maximum, and thereby prevent rupture of a normally charged cylinder when subjected to a standard re test as required by 49CFR 173.34(f) of the TC and CTC regulations. The term pressure relief device is synonymous with safety relief device as used by DOT, TC or CTC regulations.

    31、perature Limitations 4.1 The maximum pressure of the container assembly shall not exceed the limits specied in Code of Federal Regulation, Title 49, 173.304a(d)(3)(ii); These limits are 45 psig (310 kPa) at 70F (21C) and 105 psig (724 kPa) at 130F (54.4C). Exception: A container assembly may exceed

    32、these limits if U.S. DOT grants an exemption and documentation is presented at the time of investigation. 4.1 revised February 10, 2005 4.2 Nonrellable type metal containers covered by these requirements are intended for use at normal room ambient temperatures and storage at a temperature not exceed

    33、ing 130F (54.4C). 5 Size and Filling Limitations 5.1 The maximum size of the nonrellable type metal container shall be not greater than 36.62 cubic inches (600 ml). This is equivalent to 1.32 pounds (600 g) water capacity. Exception: A container assembly may exceed the size limitation if the U.S. DO

    34、T grants an exemption and documentation is presented at the time of the investigation. 5.2 The maximum hydrocarbon fuel gas (primarily butane) content in a nonrellable metal container constructed in accordance with DOT 2P or 2Q specications shall not exceed 32 cubic inches (500 mL), and the maximum

    35、lling density shall be in accordance with Code of Federal Regulation, Title 49, Part 173.304(e)(1). Exception: A container assembly may exceed the lling limits if the U.S. DOT grants an exemption and documentation is presented at the time of the investigation. 5.2 revised February 10, 2005 5.3 Hydro

    36、carbon fuel gas (primarily butane) that is contained in nonrellable metal container assemblies shall be odorized in accordance with the Standard for Liqueed Petroleum Gas Code, NFPA 58-2004. 5.3 revised February 10, 2005 CONSTRUCTION 6 General 6.1 A nonrellable metal container assembly shall incorpo

    37、rate a pressure vessel constructed in accordance with this standard and the, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Chapter I, Part 178.33 or 178.33(a), Specication 2P or 2Q respectively, and be so marked. Exception: A pressure vessel may be other than specication 2P or 2Q if the U.S. DOT grants an

    38、exemption and documentation is presented at the time of the investigation. 6.2 The pressure vessel shall be seamless or with seams. Side wall seam shall be of welded construction. Circumferential seams shall be by welding, swedging, brazing, soldering, or double seaming. The ends shall be concave or

    39、 convex. FEBRUARY 10, 2005 UL 147B 6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 6.3 A nonrellable metal container assembly shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or be provided with a corrosion-resistant exterior coating equivalen

    40、t to that afforded by paint. 7 Assembly 7.1 A nonrellable metal container assembly shall include all of the components necessary for its intended function and installation, and shall be furnished as a single unit or assembly. 7.2 A nonrellable metal container assembly is intended only for vapor with

    41、drawal. If the container assembly is for horizontal installation and use, the design of the withdrawal tube and metal container assembly shall minimize the risk of liquid entering the tube and be so marked. See 20.1(f). 7.3 A nonrellable metal container assembly shall be provided with an integral sh

    42、utoff valve that closes automatically when the assembly is disconnected from the gas consuming equipment. 7.4 The shutoff valve connection shall provide protection against impact or the metal container assembly shall incorporate a cover or cap and be marked in accordance with 20.2. See the Drop Test

    43、, Section 15. 7.5 A nonrellable metal container assembly shall incorporate pressure relief device(s) or system(s) that will operate to reduce the risk of rupture or propulsion of container parts from pressure buildup from a re condition. See the Fire Test, Section 16. 8 Materials 8.1 A material for

    44、pressure vessel or gas-conning components shall have a minimum melting point (solidus temperature) of not less than 950F (510C) and a tensile strength of not less than 10,000 psi (68.9 MPa) at 400F (204C). Exception: A valve disc or stem, soft seat, seal ring, or gasket need not comply with this req

    45、uirement. 8.2 Materials shall be resistant to the action of butane fuel gas. 8.3 With reference to the requirement in 8.2, elastomeric and polymeric materials shall be subjected to the Accelerated Aging Test, Section 17, and the Butane Compatibility Test, Section 18. Exception: Chlorotriuoroethylene

    46、 polymers, tetrauoroethylene, uorinated ethylene propylene polymers, and polyamids with a composition of polyhexamethylene adipamide or polycapromide polymers (nylon 6 or 6/6) are acceptable without test. 8.4 If atmospheric corrosion of a ferrous part will impair the intended operation, the part sha

    47、ll be provided with a corrosion-resistant protective coating. 8.5 A protective coating shall resist corrosion to the degree not less than that provided by the protective coatings specied in 8.6. 8.6 Cadmium plating shall have a thickness of not less than 0.0003 inch (0.008 mm), and zinc plating shal

    48、l have a thickness of not less than 0.0005 inch (0.013 mm). Exception: If threads constitute the major portion of the area of a part, the thickness of the cadmium or zinc plating may be not less than 0.00015 inch (0.0038 mm).     49、HER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL PERFORMANCE 9 General 9.1 Three representative sample of each size and specic construction of metal container assembly and parts constructed of nonmetallic materials are to be subjected to the tests specied in Sections 10 18, as appropriate. 9.2 For leakage tests, a source of aerostatic pressure such as air or nitrogen is to be used. 9.3 Water or other liquid of comparable or lighter viscosity may
