    3、.5(Provided for clarity), 34.6 34.14 (New), 39.10 (New)Subject:DECISION:19.13 Cross Member (Beam)19.13.1 The Cross-Member of a furnishing system shall not be used for structural support of the system.34 Panel Systems with Cross-Members Over Walkways34.0 In addition to the requirements in 32.5, the f

    4、urnishing shall not tip over, components shall notseparate from the furnishing, and there shall be no loss of serviceability.Cross-Members 40 inches (101.6 cm) or higher above the floor34.1 A panel system that incorporates cross-members (beams) 40 inches (101.6 cm) or higher above thefloor intended

    5、to be located over a walkway is to be assembled as specified by the manufacturer andtested as described in 34.2 34.4.Exception No. 1: A cross-member that is at a height greater than 9 ft (2.7 m) above the ground is to betested in accordance with 34.5.Exception No. 2: A cross-member that is unable to

    6、 be physically grasped and held on to, is to be testedin accordance with 34.5.34.2 The loads specified in 34.3 34.5 are to be applied to a cross-member and distributed over a lengthof 2 ft (610 mm) where the cross-member is the least supported, and then re-applied in the same mannerwhere the cross-m

    7、ember connects to the supporting means.34.3 A load of 450 lb (204.1 kg) is to be applied for 15 min in accordance with 34.2. When themanufacturers instructions or markings specify the maximum weight the cross-member is intended tosupport, two times that specified weight is to be added to the 450-lb

    8、load.34.4 A load of 225 lb (102.1 kg) is to be applied in accordance with 34.2 and dropped from a height of 3in (76.2 mm).34.5 With reference to Exception Nos. 1 and 2 to 34.1, a load of three times the weight of thecross-member is to be applied for 15 min in accordance with 34.2. When the manufactu

    10、ERMISSION FROM ULCross-Members 16 to 40 inches (40.6 to 101.6 cm) above the floor34.6 A system that incorporates cross-members 16 to 40 inches (40.6 to 101.6 cm) above the floor is tobe assembled as specified by the manufacturer and tested as described in 34.7 34.9.34.7 For every 30 inch (76.2 cm) u

    11、nsupported span in the cross-members, a load of 250 lbs (113.4 kg)shall be distributed evenly across the gap. The rest of the furnishing shall be loaded to simulate worstcase proof load requirements.34.8 A load of 225 lb (102.1 kg) is to be dropped from a height of 3 in (76.2 mm) above the beam at t

    12、helocations defined in 34.2. The load shall be a 16 inch (40.6 cm) diameter bag filled with a weight, such assteel shot or sand, to obtain the 225 lbs (102.1 kg).34.9 The cross-member shall be subjected to the Impact Stability Test in Table 33.1 (5.2), except thecross beam shall not be damaged to th

    13、e extent that wiring is damaged or stress is placed on electricalconnections. The Dielectric Voltage-Withstand Test, Section 21, shall be performed if there is any visibledamage to the cross-beam.Cross-Members 24 inches (61.0 cm) or lower above the floor34.10 A system that incorporates cross-members

    14、 intended to be located within 24 inches (61.0 cm) of thefloor is to be assembled as specified by the manufacturer and tested as described in 34.11 34.14.34.11 The loads specified in 34.12 34.14 are to be applied to a cross-member where the cross-memberis the least supported, and then re-applied in

    15、the same manner where the cross-member connects to thesupporting means.34.12 A. load of 450 lb (204.1 kg) is to be applied througha4by10inch (102 by 254 mm) 1/2 to 3/4 inchthick nominal steel plate for 15 minutes in accordance with 34.11. When the manufacturers instructionsor markings specify the ma

    16、ximum weight the cross-member is intended to support, two times thatspecified weight is to be added to the 450-lb load.34.13 A load of 225 lb (102.1 kg) is to be dropped from a height of 3 in (76.2 mm) above the beam at thelocations specified in 34.8. The load shall be a 16 inch (40.6 cm) diameter b

    17、ag filled with a weight, suchas steel shot or sand, to obtain the 225 lbs (102.1 kg).34.14 The cross-member shall be subjected to the Impact Stability Test in Table 33.1 (5.2), except thecross beam shall not be damaged to the extent that wiring is damaged or stress is placed on electricalconnections

The Dielectric Voltage-Withstand Test, Section 21, shall be performed if there is any visibledamage to the cross-beam.Instructions39.10 Furnishings with a cross-members located within 24 inches (61 cm) of the floor shall includeinstructions that the furnishing shall only be used against a wall or

    19、partition in order to avoid potential triphazards.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:We have had a submittal where the cross-member is in an area that would be considered below thewalkway height. These requirements were developed to evaluate the safety concerns when thecross-member is below the walkway height.
