Use the rounding-off method of ASTM E 29. System International (SI) units shall be the preferred units of measure. NIST Special Publication 330 is

Refer to ASTM E 380 for conversions between the systems. 3.3 Performance criteria To the maximum extent possible, specify the fibe

28、r requirements in terms of dimensional, mechanical, optical, and environmental performance. If the performance criteria are insuff icient to specify a suitable product, add other requirements to the Detail Specification. 3.4 Preferred values Each Sectional Specification may prescribe the preferred v

The preferred values prescribed in the Sectional Specification may also be repeated in the Blank Detail Specification if it is practical to do so. “Preferred“ is synonymous with “recommended.“ 3.5 Classes of fibers Table 1 lists various classes of fibers based upon ce

In the event of a conflict, Sectional Specifications supersede Generic Specifications, Detail Specifications supersede Sectional Specifications, and procurement documents or contracts may contractually supersede Detail Specifications. Note, however, that Detail Specifications sh

40、all not specify requirements that delete or diminish those of the Generic, Sectional, or Blank Detail Specifications. Figure 1 shows the general organization of TIAS optical fiber specification documents. The Generic, Sectional, and most Blank Detail Specifications, shown below, represent the curren

Other Sectional and Blank Detail Specifications may be added later, as needed, using the same general pattern. (Some of the letter designations ater the “492“ for the Detail Specifications apply to actual documents,

42、 while others are for illustration purposes only.) 3.6.3 Multicellular attributes Multicellular attributes are those that vary with manufacturing mix and application of use. For example, a variety of fiber lengths is produced, and users specify length according to the application needs. The same is

43、true for attenuation coefficient. It is permissible to substitute fiber with one or more multicellular attributes exceeding the specification (e. g., a longer length, lower attenuation coefficient, etc.). To prevent proliferation of documents, it is recommended that a Detail Specification not be published for each combination of multicellular attributes. The Detail Specification shall establish

47、 the range of values for each multicellular attribute. It shall also establish how the part- number suffix (see 3.8.2 below, plus Annex B of the applicable Blank Detail Specification) may be used to indicate cells within each range, for a maximum of five attributes. 3.7 Specification style and forma

48、t This and all other TIA specifications that make use of the NECQ system shall use the style and format given in the TIA Engineering Style Manual. Tentative document numbers are assigned at the time of a Standards Proposal ballot. Firm document numbers are assigned when a document is approved and sent for printing. In the case where a manufacturer prepares a Detail Specification that will not be balloted, as provided for under
