23、 Devices. ) NOTE: This FOTP was previously published in EIA/RS-455-2. 1.0 INTENT 1.1 The intent of this test is to determine the ability of a fiber optic interconnecting device to withstand a load that might be encountered when a wheeled vehicle is driven over the device. CAUTION: This test shall on
24、ly be performed on interconnecting devices designed to meet the requirements. O 1.2 Typical indications of damage resulting from the test are: 1.2.1 Inability to mate or unmate. 1.2.2 Broken parts or accessories. 1.2,3 LOSS of optical continuity; 1.2.4 Damage to seals. 2.0 TEST EQUIPMENT Equipment r
25、equired to perform the crush resistance test shall be as follows: 2.1 Two parallel bearing surfaces faced with 25 mm (i inch) thick rubber having a durometer hardness of 65 to 75 (Shore “Agg Scale) . 2.2 A suitable instrument for measuring the applied load to an accuracy of 5%. 2.3 A suitable press
26、capable of applying the specified load at a rate not to exceed 2 kN/s (450 lbf/s) . This method is similar to Method 2008.1 of MIL-STD-1344. EIA 455-2bA (35 2575512 O054603 O W e- - -e EIA- 455-26A Page 2 300 TEST SAMPLE A test sample shall consist of a plug, a receptacle, a mated plug and rectacle,
27、 or other interconnecting devices, as specified. The sample shall be cabled as intended for normal service, complete with accessories. A minimum of 150 mm .(6 inches) of cable shall be attached to the sample(s). 4.0 TEST 4.1 4.2 4.3 4.4 4.5 PROCEDURE Place each test sample between the rubber-faced p
28、arallel plates of the press such that the load will be applied in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the interconnect and cable. In the case of rectangular interconnects, the load shall be applied against the longer sides. Operate the press to close the plates and apply the load f
29、or the required period of time. unless otherwise specified, the test load shall be 6.7 kn (1510 lbf) applied for a period of 5 to 10 seconds. If required by the Detail Specification, operate the device during application of load and measure change in optical transmittance in accordance with FOTP-20
30、(RS- 455-20) i II Me a c u r eme n t of Change in Optical Transmittance. Repeat the loading for the number of times specified by the Detail Specification. Upon completion of the load cycling, release the load, open the plates of the press and remove the sample(s) . Mate and unmate specimens as appro
31、priate to verify mateability. In accordance with the requirements of FOTP-13 (RS-455-13) , “Visual and Mechanical Inspection of Fibers, Cables, Connectors And/or Other Fiber Optic Devices,“ examine the samples and record the physical conditions observed (e.g., see 1.2). 5-0 DOCUMENTATION Data sheets
