NOTE: This FOTP was previously published in EIA/RS-455-2. 1.0 INTENT 1.1 Th

    35、e intent of this test -is to establish the integrity of the sea1,of the interfaces in a fiber optics device (component or assembly, such as a connector); It may be conducted as one of the tests in a sequential test plan and after or during the exposure of the test sample to a specified low temperatu

    36、re. A pressure differential is established between the front and rear faces of a mounted device. The degree of leakage through the seals of the test sample is measured by means of a detection device located on the low pressure side of the test sample . a 2.0 TEST EQUIPMENT 2.1 Hermetic Seal Test The

    37、 test equipment shall be as follows: 2.1.1 Chamber capable of providing for: 2.1.1.1 Mounting of the test sample, by means of its flange, on the chamber divider which separates low from high pressure. 2.1.1.2 A gas tight seal at the flange mounting surface of test sample. 2.1.1.3 Surrounding the hig

    38、h pressure side of the device with a tracer gas for hermetic testing.     39、ng the pressure differential specified. 2.1.3 Gauges to permit verification of the pressure and/or vacuum. and/or of the pressure differential between the front and rear faces of the device during test. 2.1.4 A mass spectrometer detector to permit measurement of the tracer gas leakage rate through t

    40、he device. 2.1.5 An appropriate tracer gas (helium, argon, or a mixture of 90% nitrogen and 10% helium). 2.1.6 A thermocouple (optional) 2.2 Environmental Ceal Test The test equipment shall be as follows: 2.2.1 An Jnsulated pressurizable chamber operable to -60 C and capable of withstanding an inter

    41、nal pressure of 0.20 MPa (30 psi), including an internal container for mounting the device under test and equipped with piping to external fittings, as illustrated by Figure 1. 2.2.2 An air line pressure adapter. 2.2.3 An air line pressure regulator or gauge. 2.2.4 A graduated cylinder, 25mm (1 inch

    42、) capacity. 2.2.5 Thermometer, readable to -60 Ce 0 2.2.6 Valves and plumbing, in accordance with Figure 1. (An alternate environmental seal test equipment arrangement in accordance with Figure 2 may be used in lieu of the arrangement of Figure 1.) 2.2.7 A thermocouple (optional) 3oB TEST SAMPLE A t

    44、 measurements shall . be made at the standard atmospheric conditions r.equired by EIA/RS-455, general requirements, Para. 4. 4.2 Mounting The test sample shal be. mounted on the chamber divider which seearates low from high pressure. A suitable opening must be provided in the divider such that, with

    45、 the aid of greases and/or sealing -gaskets, a leak-proof junction is achieved between the flange of the test sample and the chamber divider. The test sample, after mounting in the chamber, shall be brought to and maintained at the desired temperature for at least 1/2 hour before conducting the test

    46、. A thermocouple may be used to determine the samples temperature. When specified, such a thermocouple shall be attached to the inside of the device. 4.3 Applying Pressure The pressure differential between the front and rear of the device shall be maintained at-the value specified in the Detail Spec

    47、ification. Depending upon the type of equipment used, this may be achieved (a) by evacuation of one side of the chamber while maintaining atmospheric pressure at the other side, (b) by pressurizing one side of the chamber with atmospheric pressure at the other side, or (c) by a combination of pressu

    48、rizing one side of the chamber and partially evacuating the other side. 4.4 Leak Detection 4.4.1 Leak Detection for Hermetic Seal Devices The leak detector shall be connected to the low pressure or vacuum side of the chamber. The tracer gas shall be introduced at the high pressure side of the chambe

    49、r in such manner that it surrounds the face of the device test sample.
