、Industry Association Provided by IHS under license with EIANot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-TIA-455-219 11 Introduction / Intent 1.1 This Document defines a test procedure to assess endface geometry in guide-pin based multifiber ferrules. The primary

、 attributes are fiber height and endface angle relative to the guidepin bores. 1.2 This test method is based on the use of precision fixturing. This document is intended for use with interferometric measurement equipment. 1.3 This procedure assumes that the ferrule face surrounding the region of int

、erest is equal to or lower in height than the surface inside the boundaries of the region of interest. 2 Normative references Test or inspection requirements may include, but are not limited to, the following references: TIA/EA-455-B, Standard test procedures for fiber optic fibers, cables, transduc

、ers, sensors, connecting and terminating devices and other fiber optic components TIA/EIA-455-57B (FOTP-57) Optical fiber end preparation and examination Users of this FOTP are encouraged to specify the most recent edition of the documents referenced above. In case of dispute, use the specified docu

、ment revision. Caution: Do not casually make the decision to require the most recent edition of a referenced FOTP. There have been instances when document revisions have completely changed the intent, application, use, etc. of a document such that the requirement to use an edition more recent than t

、he one originally reviewed may be totally inappropriate. 3 Apparatus / Test Equipment 3.1. Test equipment shall include the following items: Copyright Telecommunications Industry Association Provided by IHS under license with EIANot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license f

、rom IHS-,-,-TIA-455-219 23.1.1 Precision fixturing such that the angle of the ferrule face relative to the guide-pin bore axes may be determined. (There are several ways to do this. One such technique may be found in Annex A.) For whichever precision fixturing is chosen, a method must be included to

、 confirm the accuracy and repeatability of the measurement. 3.1.2 An interferometer with adequate field of view and resolution. 3.1.3 Assorted cleaning materials such as lint free wipes and canned air. 4 Test specimens 4. TEST SPECIMEN 4.1. Each test specimen shall consist of a ferrule that may or m

、ay not be mounted inside of a connector housing. Current industry examples include the large MT ferrule/MTP/MPX, the small MT ferrule/MT RJ/mini MPO and the DC ferrule/SC DC. 4.2. Connectors to be measured shall be allowed to stabilize at standard atmospheric conditions for at least 1 hour (25 degre

、es C +/- 5 degrees C and 30 to 60% R.H.). 5. Measurement Regions 5. Measurement Regions: 5.1 The measurement uses 4 defined regions on the ferrule endface. Suggested values for these parameters may be found in table 2. 5.1.1 Region of interest (ROI): The ROI is set on the ferrule surface and defined

、 by a rectangular region having a long axis of length L, and a short axis of width W. The region of interest shall be chosen to cover the intended contact zone of the ferrule endface when the ferrules are mated. The region of interest shall be centered on the fiber array. 5.1.2 Extracting Regions: T

、he extracting regions, which include the fiber endface regions and the associated adhesive regions, are defined by circles having a diameter E, centered on each fiber. 39、permitted without license from IHS-,-,-TIA-455-219 35.1.3 Fitting region: The fitting region is equal to the region of interest minus the extracting regions and is the data set used in making calculations for the ferrule surface. 5.1.4 Averaging Region: The averaging region is centered on each fiber

、 surface and is used to calculate the fiber height. The averaging region is defined by a circle having a diameter F. The value used for this parameter will vary depending on the fiber type. To assess core dip in MM fibers, two averaging regions are used. The first is the core fitting region. The dia

、meter of this region is 20u. The second region is an annular area bound by the annular maximum at 90u and the annular minimum at 70u. (See drawing below.) Create surface “H” by fitting a biparabolic curve to data set “G”. Remove residual X and Y tilt in the region of interest. Calculate the flatness

、 deviation using the plane created in Figure 9. Flatness deviation is defined as the peak-to-valley height of the bi-parabolic fit across the region of interest measured to the plan created in Figure 9. This is measured along an axis parallel to the guide pin bore axis. Calculate the X and Y radius

、values. Determine the MM core dip. This may be accomplished by subtracting the average height of the core fitting region from the average height of the annular averaging region. 7.
