This FOTP forms a part of the latest revision of EIA Recommended Standard EIA-455. 1.0 INTENT This procedure provides fo
23、r a test to determine the ability of a cabled and mated connector (plug and receptacle) to resist firewall environments, such as flame or ignition of gases. Optical operation is required for 5 minutes and physical integrity for 20 minutes. 2.0 TEST EQUIPMENT Test equipment shall be as follows: 2.1 G
24、lass Tape 2.2 Flame producing apparatus capable of producing a natural gas flame at a flow rate equivalent to an input of 9,300 to 10,400 joules/se,cond aBd Baintaining a flame at a temperature of 1,093 C + 30 -00 . 2.3 Thermocouple capable of measuring flame temperature. 2.4 Chamber shall be capabl

27、 Procedure for Fiber Optic Connecting Devices and Cables.“* 2.6 Optical source and detector capable of measuring optical power and detecting discontinuities of one microsecond or greater in accordance with FOTP-32 (EIA-455-32), “Fiber Optic Circuit Discontinuities.“ 3.0 TEST SAMPLE 3.1 Sample The te
28、st sample shall consist of a mated connector pair that is terminated,with cables on both sides. 3.2 Sample Preparation The sample shall be prepared as follows: 3.2.1 Clean sample of oil, grease, dirt and foreign material using a non-combustible solvent. 3.2.2 Wrap the cables connected to the plug wi
29、th glass tape or protect by suitable means to ensure that the bundle is capable of meeting the requirements of this test. 3.2.3 Provision shall be made for continuous optical transmittance measurement in accordance with FOTP-20 (EIA-455-20), “Measurement of Change in Optical Transmittance,“ as requi
30、red for 5 minutes of flame exposure. Physical assessment shall be made following completion of the 20-minute exposure. 4.0 TEST PROCEDURE 4.1 Mounting Unless otherwise specified, the mated connector pair shall be mounted on a fixture in accordance with Figures I, 2, and 3. - *This FOTP will be publi

Ex pos ur e The connector assembly shall be exposed to a 1,093OC minimum flame (measured 6.35 mm I0.25 inch from the assembly as shown in Figure 1) for a period of 20 minutes. Unless otherwise specified, the assembly shall be simultaneously vibrated con
33、tinuously at 33 Hz and with a total excursion of 6.35 mm (0.25 inch) in accordance with FOTP-11. 34、losses in excess of those specified in paragraph 6.3. Visual inspection Following the flame exposure the connectors shall be visually inspected as required by FOTP-13 (EIA-455-131, “Visual and Mechanical Inspection of Fibers, Cables, Connectors and/or Other Fiber Optic Devices,“ to determine if form
35、 and fit have been affected and if paragraph 6.4 requirements have been met. 5.0 DOCUMENTATION Data sheets shall contain: 5.1 Title of test, date, and name of operator. 5.2 Sample description - include fixture, if applicable. 5.3 Test equipment used and date of latest calibration. 5.4 Values and obs
