This Telecommunications

、 Systems Bulletin has been developed by Subcommittee TR-45.6, and contains information which may be useful to implementors of systems compliant with TSB-87, “Cellular Digital Packet Data System Specification,“ or its derivatives. This document contains significant portions of material originally sub

、mitted by the Cellular Digital Packet Data Forum Inc. CDPD is a technology intended to provide packet data networking services to mobile hosts. The media used to provide these services consists of radio channels typically used for Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) cellular service. o. 1 Document S

、tructure This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin is published as a series of Parts. Each Part contains information pertaining to one aspect of the system. The functional structure of this TSB is as follows: o Part 1000 to Part 1999-Guidelines for Service Providers These Parts are informative and di

These Parts are informative and describe the issues and procedures which must be addressed by an agency serving as a NIC on behalf of the CDPD community. o o 1022-iV Introduction TlAEIAITCB-87-1 O22 -

、PART 1022 Parameter Configuration Guidelines 1 Introduction 2 The purpose of this Part is to recommend settings for many of the configurable parameters of CDPD. It should be noted that this Part constitutes a recommendation but not a requirement for CDPD Service Providers. Because it is a recommenda

、tion, this Part does not purport to cover all configurable parameters. Physical Layer 2.1 This Section discusses CDPD Physical Layer parameters. Max-C hannel-Time If the RF channel is shared with other cellular transmissions, then the MDBS shall relinquish the RF channel after a period of time. This

、 time period is defined as the MAX-CHANNEL-TIME. The MAX-CHANNEL-TIME is defined in IS-732-401. .- 1022-1 TWEIAlTSB-87-1022 Parameter Configuration Guidelines 2.1.1 Configuration The default MAX-CHANNEL-TIME is 1 minute. The MAX-CHANNEL-TIME must be set to a value that operates in concert with the u

、nderlying cellular voice infrastructure. 3 Medium Access Control 3.1 This Section discusses CDPD MAC protocol parameters. Mi n-l d le-T i me 3.1.1 3.2 The CDPD Airlink is a shared resource where multiple M-ESs contend for reverse channel capacity. To prevent any M-ES from blocking other M-ESs attemp

、ting to access the CDPD channel, the Medium Access Control mechanism prevents any single M-ES from continuously transmitting on the reverse channel. This is accomplished through the definition of the DSMA state machine procedures and the MIN-IDLE-TIME and MAX-BLOCKS parameters (see Section 3.2). The

、 MIN-IDE-TIME defines the length of time, in microslots, where an M-ES must wait after entering the Idle state before it is allowed to transmit on the reverse channel. The MIN-IDLETIME parameter is defined in IS-732-402. By the MAC protocol definition, at the end of each transmission, the M-ES must cease transmission and wait a minimum of seven microslots in the Decode Wait state before entering the Idle state. This means that the MIN-IDLE-TIME is the number of microslots an M-ES must remain quiet in addition to the mandatory seven microslots. Configuration The default
