、rder Intercept: 4941TIA/EIA-6901RECOMMENDED MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR 800-MHZ CELLULAR SUBSCRIBER UNITS11. INTRODUCTION21.1 Scope3These standards detail definitions, methods of measurement, and minimum performance4characteristics of 800-MHz Cellular Subscriber Units. These standards share the purpose5of

、 the Cellular System Mobile Station - Land Station Compatibility Specification EIA/TIA6553 (and subsequent revisions thereof) of assuring that a subscriber unit can obtain7service in any cellular system that meets the compatibility requirements of EIA/TIA 553.8Compatibility, as used in connection wi

、th these standards and EIA/TIA 553, is9understood to mean: Any subscriber unit is able to place and receive calls in any cellular10system. Conversely, all cellular systems are able to place and receive calls with any11subscriber unit.12To assure compatibility, it is essential that both radio-system

、parameters and call-13processing parameters be specified. The speech-filtering, modulation, and RF-emission14parameters commonly encountered in two-way radio systems have been updated and15expanded to reflect the unique radio plan upon which cellular systems are based. The16sequence of call-processi

、ng steps that the mobile and land stations execute to establish17calls has been specified in EIA/TIA 553 along with the digital control messages and analog18signals that are exchanged between the two stations.19A subscriber unit is intended to be used while in motion or during halts at unspecified20

、points. It is assumed that subscriber units include portable units (e.g., hand-held21“personal“ units) as well as units installed in vehicles.22Although the basic purpose of cellular telecommunications has been voice23communication, evolving usages (e.g., data) may allow the omission of some of the2

、4features specified herein provided that the system compatibility is not compromised.25These standards concentrate specifically on the Subscriber Unit; they cover the operation26of the land station, the cellular switch, and the cell control equipment only to the extent27that compatibility with EIA/T

、IA 553 is assured.281.2 General Description of Cellular Mobile Telephone System29The system is designed to supply mobile telephone service using a “cellular“ radio30coverage plan. This plan divides a metropolitan area into a number of coverage areas or31“cells“ with each cell being assigned a portio

、n of the available radio channels. The32channels used in one cell are again usable in spatially separated cells in the same Mobile33Service Area (MSA).34The subscriber unit communicates with a distributed array of cell-site land stations. The35cell-site land stations are controlled by the cellular-s

、ystem network control and switching36equipment that provides connection to the world-wide telecommunications network. A call37between the land network and a subscriber unit is routed via the cellular control system38to the cell site that best serves the location of the subscriber unit. A call in pro

、gress can39TIA/EIA-6902proceed indefinitely as the subscriber unit moves from cell to cell throughout the MSA1since it is automatically reassigned to an available channel within a new cell.2Some of the channels within each cell are dedicated to the control of the subscriber unit.3This includes locat

、ing a particular subscriber unit, processing a subscriber-originated4call, and performing other system control functions. The remaining channels are used for5voice communication.61.3 Definition of Subscriber Unit7The subscriber unit required for a cellular system is shown in Figure 1 and consists of

、 the8following units: Control Unit, Transceiver Unit, and Antenna Unit.9Antenna UnitControl UnitTransceiver Unit(Transmitter, Receiver, and Logic Circuitry)Figure 1. Subscriber Unit10Although Figure 1 depicts the Control Unit and the Transceiver Unit as two separate11units, both may be contained wit

、hin a single housing if the physical dimensions permit12either mounting the combined unit within reach of the vehicle operator or using it as a13hand-held “personal“ unit.14The minimum requirements of the Control Unit, Transceiver Unit, and Antenna Unit are15as follows.16A. Control Unit17The Control Unit is the interface between the subscriber and the system. The subscriber18interface requirements described in 7 may include a handset; a keypad; a loudspeaker; all19subscriber-unit
