Scope1.1 This specifi cation covers a cold-applied asphalt mastic painting system for above-ground
2、steel structures.1.2 This system is suitable for use on parts or structures exposed in Environmental Zones 2A (frequently wet by fresh water), 2B (frequently wet by salt water), 3B (chemical, neutral), and 3C (chemical, alkaline). It should not be used in contact with oils, solvents, or other reagen

Description2.1 This painting system consists of surface preparation by commercial blast cleaning or pickling and one thick or two thin coats of cold-applied asphalt mastic.3. Referenced Standards3.1 The latest issue, revision, or amendment of the refe

Paint Application6.1 PAINT APPLICATION: Follow the requirements SSPC-PA 1, “Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel.”6.2 TOUCH-UP PAINTING: In accordance with specifi ca-tion SSPC-PA 1, “Shop, Field, and Maintenance Painting of Steel,” and in particular with the section thereof entitle
9、d “Field Painting.”6.3 MAINTENANCE PAINTING: This specifi cation ap-plies to maintenance painting, provided specifi c instructions are included on the degree and amount of solvent cleaning, spot cleaning, spot priming, priming, and fi nish painting. For additional information on maintenance painting
10、 procedures, see SSPC-PA Guide 4, “Guide to Maintenance Repainting with Oil Base or Alkyd Painting Systems.”6.4 NUMBER OF COATS: Minimum of one.6.5 DRY FILM THICKNESS OF PAINT SYSTEM: Not less than the following as measured in accordance with SSPC- PA 2, “Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness with Ma
11、gnetic Gages”: 1600 micrometers (63 mils).7. Inspection7.1 All work and materials supplied under this specifi ca-tion are subject to timely inspection by the purchaser or his authorized representative. The contractor shall correct such work or replace such material as is found defective under this s
12、pecifi cation (See Note 9.1.). In case of dispute, unless otherwise specifi ed, the arbitration or settlement procedure established in the procurement documents shall be followed. If no arbitration or settlement procedure is established, then a procedure mutually agreeable to purchaser, material sup

Samp
14、les may be requested at the time the purchase order is placed, or may be taken from unopened containers at the job site.7.3 Unless otherwise specifi ed, the sampling shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3925.8.
