    12、contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision and, since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are encourag

    13、ed to take steps to ensure the use of the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. Information on currently valid national and international standards can be obtained from Standards South Africa. ASTM E 34, Chemical analysis of aluminum and aluminum-base alloys. ASTM E 88, Standard pra

    14、ctice for sampling nonferrous metals and alloys in cast form for determination of chemical composition. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions apply: 3.1 acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase

    15、contract, as relevant Amdt 2 3.2 batch castings that a) are the product of one furnace melt, or b) are the product of a number of furnace melts that have been combined or mixed before casting, or c) in the case of continuous-melting furnaces or of continuous casting, are consecutively produced casti

    16、ngs of an acceptably homogeneous composition 3.3 casting a product of finished, or near finished, shape, that is formed by the solidification of a metal or of an alloy in a mould SANS 992:2008 Edition 2.2 4 3.4 chill casting a casting formed in a metal mould 3.5 consignment castings of the same nomi

    17、nal chemical composition and bearing the same cast identification, made by one manufacturer and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 3.6 melt molten metal taken from one furnace, or from several furnaces and mixed in one furnace, before being poured 3.7 pressure die casting a chill c

    18、asting in which the molten metal is introduced by a high-pressure feed 4 Requirements 4.1 General The castings shall be of uniform quality, sound and acceptably free from cracks or other surface blemishes and discontinuities that could have an adverse effect on their end use. 4.2 Chemical compositio

    19、n When determined in accordance with 5.2, the limits of chemical composition of the pressure die castings shall be as specified in table 1 for the required alloy. Where elements other than those given in table 1 or elements to be added for special treatment are required, their limits shall be as agr

    20、eed upon (see annex A). 4.3 Mechanical properties Pressure die castings shall not be required to have specific mechanical properties, unless otherwise agreed upon (see annex A). 5 Inspection and methods of test 5.1 Inspection 5.1.1 Visually examine each consignment and a random number of castings fr

    21、om each consignment for compliance with the requirements of 4.1, 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3. 5.1.2 Carry out any mechanical or supplementary inspections and tests as agreed upon (see annex A). 5.2 Analysis 5.2.1 Use any agreed method of physicochemical analysis to determine the limits of chemical composition

    22、of castings as specified in table 1 (see annex A). 5.2.2 Carry out sufficient analytical checking of all production to ensure compliance with the chemical composition requirements specified in table 1. 5.2.3 In cases of dispute, use the method of analysis described in ASTM E 34 in conjunction with t

    23、he standard practice for sampling described in ASTM E 88.     26、enting the result for any value specified in this standard shall be expressed to the same number of decimal places as the corresponding number in this standard. The following rounding up rules shall be applied: a) when the number immediately after the last number to be retained is less than 5, then

    27、the last number to be retained remains unchanged; b) when the number immediately after the last number to be retained is greater than or equal to 5 and is followed by at least one number other than zero, then the last number to be retained is increased by one; and c) when the number immediately afte

    28、r the last number to be retained is equal to 5 and is followed by zeros only, then the last number to be retained remains unchanged when it is an even number, and is increased by one when it is an odd number. 2) Analysis for elements other than those specifically mentioned in the table shall be made

    29、 when their presence is suspected or indicated to be in the excess of the values given in column 15. (See also footnote 3.) 3) If a melt has been subjected to special treatment such as a) modifying/refining the eutectic of Al-Si alloys with sodium or strontium, b) grain refining of the matrix (alumi

    30、nium solid solution) with boron or titanium salt compounds, or c) refining of the primary silicon in hypereutectic Al-Si alloys by transforming the primary silicon from a lamellar form to a granular form with phosphorus, then the level of these additional elements is not limited by the specified val

    31、ues for other elements and shall be as agreed upon (see annex A). 4) Aluminium content indicated as “Rem” (i.e. remainder) is determined by difference from 100 %. Amdt 15 SANS 992:2008Edition 2.2SANS 992:2008 Edition 2.2 6 6 Marking, packing, labelling and certification 6.1 Marking Each casting shal

    32、l bear the following information in legible and durable marking: a) the manufacturers name, trade name or trade mark; b) the alloy number; c) the melt identification number; and d) any other marking agreed upon (see annex A). 6.2 Packing 6.2.1 The casting(s) shall be packed in such a manner as to pr

    33、event damage during normal handling and transportation. 6.2.2 Unless otherwise agreed upon, the type of packing and the gross mass of individual consignments shall be at the discretion of the manufacturer (see annex A). 6.3 Labelling 6.3.1 A separate durable label, with legible and indelible marking

    34、s, shall be attached to each individually packaged consignment. 6.3.2 The information given on the label shall be at least that given in 6.1. Additional details shall be as agreed upon (see annex A). 6.4 Certification When so required (see annex A), each batch of the same alloy number shall be accom

    35、panied by a certificate of compliance that states that the castings comply with the requirements of 4.2 and that contains details of the chemical composition of the melt and the results of any mechanical or supplementary tests required (see annex A).     36、otes to purchasers A.1 The following requirements shall be specified in tender invitations and in each order or contract: a) the alloy number and whether elements other than those specified in table 1 are required (see 4.2 and table 1); b) the gross mass of the consignment (see 6.2.2); and c) whethe

    37、r a certificate of compliance is to be supplied (see 6.4). A.2 The following requirements shall be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser: a) limits for elements other than those specified in table 1 (see 4.2 and table 1, note 2); b) limits for elements added for special treatment (s

    38、ee 4.2 and table 1, note 3); c) any specific mechanical properties, including the type, size and location of the test piece to be used, the rate of sampling and the minimum acceptable requirements (see 4.3); d) supplementary inspection and test requirements (see 5.1.2 and 6.4), which may include 1)

    39、dimensional tolerances for subsequent machining, 2) hardness testing, 3) pressure tightness testing, 4) penetrant flaw detection, and 5) radiographic examination; e) the method(s) of physicochemical analysis to be used (see 5.2.1); f) any marking on the castings in addition to that required by 6.1,

    40、e.g. drawing number, serial number, etc., and sufficient means to ensure traceability; g) when relevant, the type of packing and the gross mass of individual consignments (see 6.2.2); and h) any additional information to be given on the label (see 6.3.2), e.g. purchase order number, drawing number,

    41、serial number, quantity of castings, gross and net mass of consignment, etc. SANS 992:2008 Edition 2.2 8 Annex B (informative) Quality verification of aluminium and aluminium alloy pressure die castings B.1 When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of aluminium or aluminium alloy

    42、 pressure die castings, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating solely on evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system. In this connection it should be noted that SANS 9001 covers the provision of an integrated quality system. Amdt 2 B.2 If

    43、 no information about the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available to help in assessing the quality of a consignment, and a purchaser wishes to establish by inspection and testing of samples of the final product whether a consignment of aluminium or aluminium allo

    44、y pressure die castings complies with this standard, then a sampling plan based on statistical tables should be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
