、LLSWITH PARTIAL GAS RECOMBINATIONFOREWORD1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprisingall national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions con

、cerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. Tothis end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IECPublication(s)”). Their

、 preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interestedin the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates clos

、elywith the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined byagreement between the two organizations.2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an internationalconsensus of opinion on the relevant s

、ubjects since each technical committee has representation from allinterested IEC National Committees.3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC NationalCommittees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical

、 content of IECPublications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for anymisinterpretation by any end user.4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publicationstransparently to the maximum extent possi

、ble in their national and regional publications. Any divergencebetween any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated inthe latter.5) IEC provides no marking procedure to indicate its approval and cannot be rendered responsible for anyequipment

、declared to be in conformity with an IEC Publication.6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts andmembers of its technical committees and IEC Nation

、al Committees for any personal injury, property damage orother damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) andexpenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IECPublications.8) Attention is draw

、n to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications isindispensable for the correct application of this publication.9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject ofpatent rights. IEC shall not be

、held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.International Standard IEC 62259 has been prepared by subcommittee 21A: Secondary cellsand batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes, of IEC technical committee21: Secondary cells and batteries. The text of this standar

、d is based on the following documents:FDIS Report on voting21A/386/FDIS 21A/392/RVDFull information on the voting for the approval of this standard can be found in the report onvoting indicated in the above table. This publication has been drafted in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.622

、59 IEC:2003 7 The committee has decided that the contents of this publication will remain unchanged until2008-12. At this date, the publication will be reconfirmed; withdrawn; replaced by a revised edition, or amended.62259 IEC:2003 9 INTRODUCTIONTraditionally the manufacturers and users of alkaline

、 secondary cells and batteries haveexpressed the current used to charge and discharge these cells and batteries as a multiple ofthe capacity. For example, a current of 20 A used to charge a cell with a rated capacity (C Ah)of 100 Ah would be expressed as C/5 A or 0,2 C A. This method of current desi

、gnation hasbeen used in earlier standards relating to alkaline secondary cells and batteries.Comments have been made, however, that this method of current designation isdimensionally incorrect in that a multiple of the capacity (ampere-hours) will be in ampere-hours and not, as required for current,

、 in amperes. As a result of these comments, the methoddescribed in IEC 61434 has been used in this standard. In brief, the method states the reference test current (It) is expressed asItA = CnAh/1hwhereCnis the rated capacity declared by the manufacturer in ampere hours (Ah), andn is the time base in

、 hours (h) for which the rated capacity is declared.62259 IEC:2003 11 SECONDARY CELLS AND BATTERIES CONTAINING ALKALINEOR OTHER NON-ACID ELECTROLYTES NICKEL-CADMIUM PRISMATIC SECONDARY SINGLE CELLSWITH PARTIAL GAS RECOMBINATION1 ScopeThis International Standard specifies marking, designation, dimens
