16、onIn recognition of the very high number of cylinders throughout Europe using threads of existing nationaldesign and the high costs that would be caused by the unnecessary early replacement of these, it wasacknowledged that a 10 year transitional period will be required to phase in cylinders using t
17、he threaddescribed in this standard. During the ensuing period cylinders may be supplied with threads to the existingnational design or to the standard described herein.CEN/TC 79 recognizes that work is in hand to produce EN ISO standards. At the time this standardwas prepared the proposed EN ISO st
18、andards were available as drafts. If when EN 144-1 is nextrevised and the EN ISO standards have been published, consideration may be given to adopting theEN ISO standards in place of EN 144-1.1 ScopeThis European Standard applies to the connection between a gas cylinder valve and a gas cylinder forr

27、erPage 9EN 144-1:20003 Impact resistance3.1 RequirementsThe connection between the gas cylinder and the gas cylinder valve used for compressed gas breathingapparatus shall withstand an impact energy of 120 J without separation.3.2 TestingFor the purpose of this test the valve body only shall be used
28、. Two valve bodies shall be tested. The valvebody shall be fitted into a test block or a cylinder, equipped with the corresponding screw thread to themanufacturers specified torque.The valve body shall protrude by the same nominal amount as in service.The valve body shall be impacted by a striker in
29、corporating a hardened steel ball of diameter (13 0,5) mm, which has a minimum velocity of 3 m/s and an impact energy of 120 J. The impact shall be at 90 to the longitudinal axis of the valve body and coincident with a plane passing through the same axis.The point of impact shall be two thirds the d
30、istance (L) from the plane where the valve stem thread meets thetest block or the cylinder to the furthest point of the valve body, measured along the longitudinal axis of thevalve body (see figure 11).The point of impact on the valve body shall not be obscured by features such as outlet connection
31、threads,bursting disc holder, etc.The valve body shall be struck once only and shall withstand the impact energy of 120 J. Distortion due toimpact is permissible.After testing, the valve body shall be removed from the test rig and shall be visually inspected. Totalseparation shall not have taken pla
