、tting of their contacts. 5.4 Mechanical strength 5.4.1 When tested in accordance with 6.5.1, a portable room heater shall show no sign of unacceptable damage, and component parts shall not have worked loose. 5.4.2 When tested in accordance with 6.5.2, the guard of a room heater shall not be deflecte

、d from its normal position by more than 2,5 mm. 5.5 Corrosion resistance When tested in accordance with 6.6, ferrous components that are required to be protected against corrosion shall show no sign of corrosion. 5.6 Warming-up time When determined in accordance with clause 10 of SANS 60675, the war

、ming-up time shall not exceed 15 min. This requirement does not apply to visibly glowing radiant heaters or to forced-draught convection heaters. 5.7 Stability of room temperature When tested in accordance with clause 11 of SANS 60675, a room heater that has a built-in ambient-temperature thermostat

、 shall, within the limits of its rating, ensure acceptable stability of the ambient temperature, in spite of the variation of the heating needs inside the room. 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection Inspect the room heaters for compliance with those requirements of clauses 4 and 5 for whic

、h tests to assess compliance are not given in 6.3 to 6.6 (inclusive). 6.2 Sequence and conditions of test Carry out the tests at an ambient temperature of 23 C 2 C and in the order in which they are given. SANS 160:2008 Edition 3.5 7 6.3 Endurance test Operate the room heater continuously in still a

、ir under normal operating conditions at the maximum rated voltage for 400 cycles, each cycle consisting of 5,5 h of heating followed by 30 min of cooling. Operate room heaters provided with automatic heat control at their maximum setting. At the conclusion of the test, examine the room heater for co

、mpliance with 5.2. 6.4 Test on control devices Operate control devices for 300 cycles of making and breaking the maximum rated current at the maximum rated voltage, at a rate not exceeding 10 cycles per minute. In the case of motor control devices, take the sum of the stalled-motor current and the c

、urrent of the heating units as the rated current unless the motor and heating unit(s) are independently controlled. Check for compliance with 5.3. 6.5 Mechanical strength tests 6.5.1 Portable room heaters Place the room heater in its normal operating position on a flat wooden surface that is hinged

、along one side to a wooden base and has a batten of height 25 mm, on its upper surface, parallel to the hinge. Slowly raise the surface until the heater topples over. Repeat this three times for each of three different positions of the heater. Examine the heater for compliance with 5.4.1. 6.5.2 Guar

、ds Operate the room heater (complete with guard) for a period of at least 30 min at a voltage 10 % higher than the maximum rated voltage. Allow the heater to cool to room temperature. So support the heater that the central section of the guard is horizontal, and gradually apply, midway between the f

、ixing points of the guard, a load that consists of a 2,5 kg masspiece with a flat circular base of area 2 000 mm2. Measure the deflection of the guard. Examine the guard for compliance with 5.4.2. 6.6 Corrosion-resistance test Immerse the component under test for 10 min in carbon tetrachloride, to r

、emove all grease. Remove the component from the carbon tetrachloride and allow it to dry. Immerse it for 10 min in a 10 % aqueous solution of ammonium chloride maintained at a temperature of 20 C 5 C. Remove the component from the solution and shake off the drops, but do not allow it to dry. Place i

、t for 10 min in a cabinet that contains air saturated with moisture at a temperature of 20 C 5 C. Remove the component from the cabinet, dry it for 10 min in an oven maintained at a temperature of 100 C 5 C, and then inspect the surfaces of the component for compliance with 5.5. 7 Marking In additio

、n to the markings required in terms of SANS 60335-2-30, every electric room heater shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the manufacturers name, trade name, or registered trade mark. The dimensions, the mass, and the cord length of the appliance shall be given in an instruction leaflet. SANS 16

、0:2008 Edition 3.5 8 Annex A (normative) Notes to purchasers The following requirements shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer: a) the type of appliance; b) the rated voltage or the rated voltage range; and c) the rated wattage. Annex B (informative) Quality verification of

、room heaters When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of room heaters, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating solely on the evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system. In this connection it should be noted that SANS 9001 covers the provision of an integrated quality system.
