10、his part of the specification covers constructional and performance requirements for ear-plugs intended for use as hearing protectors. 1.2 This part of the specification does not cover ear-plugs in which the acoustic performance is claimed to be dependent upon amplitude. 1.3 Real-ear attenuation cha
11、racteristics of the ear-plugs are measured in accordance with the subjective method specified in ISO 4869-1. Amdt 1 NOTE a) Ear-muffs are covered in SANS 1451-1. b) The standards referred to in this part of the specification are listed in appendix A. c) Guidance on the verification of the quality of
12、 ear-plugs produced to this part of the specification is given in appendix B. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this part of the specification the definitions given in SANS 1451-1 and the following definition shall apply: ear-plug a hearing protector inserted and worn in the ear canal or in the
13、ear cavity or occluding the entrance to the external ear canal SANS 1451-2:2008 Edition 1.1 4 3 Requirements 3.1 All parts of a pair of ear-plugs shall be so designed and manufactured that they are not likely to cause injury to the wearer when they are fitted and used in accordance with the manufact
14、urers instructions. 3.2 Materials used in parts of ear-plugs which may come into contact with the skin shall be non-staining and not known to cause skin irritation or to have any adverse effect on health. 3.3 Ear-plugs that have been inserted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions shall b
15、e capable of being readily and completely removed from the ear canal by the wearer without the use of a tool. 3.4 Any part of the ear-plug that protrudes outside the ear canal when the ear-plug is fitted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions shall be of such a construction that it is unl
16、ikely to lead to any internal injury if it is disturbed externally. 3.5 Ear-plugs intended for repeated use shall: a) be supplied in a package in which they can be hygienically stored when not in use; and b) not be impaired or damaged after being cleaned in accordance with the manufacturers instruct
17、ions. (Such instructions shall not require the use of cleaning agents that are known to be harmful to the health of the wearer.) 3.6 When an ear-plug is tested in accordance with 6.2, the attenuation determined shall be at least equal to the values given in table 1. 19、1.1 5 4 Marking 4.1 Ear-plugs or their immediate packaging or dispensers shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the following information: a) the manufacturers name, trade mark or other identifying mark; b) where appropriate, the size of the ear-plugs and the range of sizes offered by the manufa
20、cturer; c) instructions for the correct selection, fitting and use of the ear-plugs, with emphasis on the need for proper fitting; d) where ear-plugs are intended for repeated use, the method of cleaning recommended by the manufacturer; e) the address of the manufacturer, importer or distributor. 5
21、Information The following background information shall be made available by the manufacturer on request: a) where applicable, details of the size range of ear-plugs offered by the manufacturer; b) attenuation results (only for the size of ear-plugs being offered by the manufacturer) measured and pre
22、sented using the procedures given in ISO 4869-1. Amdt 1 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection Visually examine the ear-plugs in the sample for compliance with 3.1-3.5 (inclusive) and section 4. 6.2 Test for attenuation Use the method given in ISO 4869-1 to determine the attenuation at the
23、test frequencies given in table 1 and check for compliance with 3.6. 25、aser requires quality verification on an ongoing basis of ear-plugs produced to this part of the specification, it is suggested that, rather than to evaluation of the final product only, he also direct his attention to the quality management system applied by the manufacturer.
