、PRECAST CONCRETE (STRUCTURAL) NOTE a) Number the PSGE clauses in Portion 2 of the project specification in the sequence in which the clauses to which they relate appear in SABS 1200 GE. b) The clause number(s) given at the beginning or after the heading of a clause is/are, unless otherwise stated, t
、he number(s) of the relevant clause(s) of SABS 1200 GE. ESSENTIAL PROJECT SPECIFICATION CLAUSES Set out suitable clauses in Portion 2 of the project specification to provide essential jnformation as follows: a) (Subclause 3.2) State the grade of concrete if a grade other than 30 MPa is required. b)
、(Subclause 5.8.4(a) Give full details of each structural connection. C) (Subclause 5.8.4(c) Specify the bond or the frictional resistance required, where applicable. d) (Subclause 5.8.4(9) Specify the composition and water/cement. ratio to be used at connections. e) (Subclause 6.1) State the applica
、ble tolerances if they are to be other than those specified. f) (Subclause 7.2.1) State which tests will be required and set out further requirements, if any. g) (Subclause 7.2.2.1) State the maximum deflection that will be acceptable in the event ot a non-destructive test being specified. ESSENTIAL
、 DATA The availability of certain essential data may affect the prices tendered. Except where such data have been given in the schedule or in the tender drawings, set out suitable clauses covering ltems such as the following in Portion 2 of the project specification: a) (Subclause 5.4) Except where
、requirements for architectural finishes (if any) are given clearly on a drawing and scheduled, set out the requirements fully. b) (subclause 7.2.2.1) Where likely to be relevant for testing purposes, specify the applicable dead and imposed loads. ADDITIONAL CLAUSES GENERAL. Where it is necessary to
、amplify or otherwise to vary the terms of SABS 1200 GE to render them suitable for use in projects to be carried out in particular locations or under particular circumstances, include in Portion 2 of the project specification clauses dealing with matters other than those covered by Clauses 1 and 2 a
、bove. NORMAL PROJECTS NOTE: To meet requirements imposed by various norms of economic development, projects are classified as normal, prestige, subeconomic, and labour-based projects (see Clause 4 of Section 0 of Part. 3 of the code) . 3.2.1 High Slump Concrete (Subclause 4.3). Under certain uncommo
、n circumstances use of a high slump concrete is necessary. Where this is the case, set out the limits in a clause that will also suitably amend Subclause 4.3 of SABS 1200 GE. Note that use of such concrete may increase the contractors costs because of the reduced turnover of moulds and casting beds.
、 3.2.2 Exposed Aggregate Finie (Subclause 5.4.2.1 and 5.4.2.2). The method adopted for the construction of a unit that is to have an exposed aggregate finish depends on the relative costs of the necessarily expensive facing materials, the cheaper backing materials, the skilled labour and the organiz
、ation required, the overall thickness and the minimum strength requirements for the unit. Two methods of obtaining an exposed aggregate finish may be specified in detail in a project specification clause such as the following: PSGE L, EXPOSED AGGREGATE FINISHES (Subclause 5.4.2.1 and 5.4.2.2) PSGE 1
、.1 Facade units. Exposed aggregate finishes shall be obtained on facade units hy exposing the surfaces of selected brown to white rounded river gravel aggregates used for the facing layer of concrete. The facing layer shall have a nominal thickness of 20 mm and the mix shall be made with an approved
、 white portland cement and aggregate of nominal sizes 13,2 mm and 19 mm. The facing layer of concrete shall be cast face down and the remainder of the concrete in the precast unit shall be cast integrally with the facing layer. After the unit has been removed from the form, the surface of the facing
、 layer shall be so sprayed with water as to expose the selected aggregate and to give a finish that is equal or superior to that of the sample units. To avoid loosening of the selected aggregates, the Contractor shall ensure that the water spray does not penetrate more than 5 mm into the concrete. A
、 surface retarder of approved manufacture may be used if the Contractor requires a longer than normal interval of time between the casting of the concrete and the washing treatment. Trials shall be made to establish the appropriate interval, which interval shall be subject to approval. The Contracto
、r shall ensure that the formwork and reinforcement are so fixed that the specified cover to the reinforcement is maintained after the aggregate has been exposed. 21、einforcement, prcwicled that they are not unacceptably obvious in the exposed aggregate finish. The cement and the mix used i.n the concrete spacer blocks shall be the same as those used in the facing layer. PSGE 1.2 Paving slabs. In the case of paving slabs, the requirements of PSGE 1.1 shall apply except that the whole slab shall be cast with white portland cement and xyz aggregate of nominal size 13,2 mm. Such aggregate shall be obtained from the xyz River Quarry, or other approved souxce. sabs pta
