Because self-discharge action generates hydrogen gas even when the battery is not in operation, make sure batteries are stored and worked on in a well-ventilated area. ALWAYS wear safety goggle

Keep all sparks, flames, and cigarettes away from the battery. c. Do not remove or damage vent caps. d. Make sure work area is well-ventilated. e. Never lean o

VIBRATION TEST METHODS 3.1 Automotive Vibration Test An accelerated test used to determine the ability of a battery to withstand vibration in on-road applications of passenger car and light truck vehicles without suffering mechanical damage, exces

12、sive loss of cranking capacity, or loss of electrolyte during its normal service life. The OE vehicle manufacturer and the battery supplier must determine the number of vibration units appropriate for the specific vehicle involved. 3.2 Heavy Duty Vibration An accelerated test used to determine the a

13、bility of a battery to withstand vibration encountered in on and off road heavy duty vehicle and equipment applications without suffering mechanical damage, excessive loss of cranking capacity, or loss of electrolyte during its normal service life. Three levels of severity can be specified. The OE m

14、achine manufacturer and the battery supplier must determine which level and number of vibration units is appropriate for the specific application involved. 3.3 Equipment Mechanical or electronic vibration machines may be used for this testing. A calibrated accelerometer with a readout, digital prefe

A calibrated programable controller controlling an electronic shaker with a feedback loop may also be used. The intended table motion is predominently or ex

16、clusively parallel to the vertical axis. 3.4 Procedure 3.4.1 Condition sample battery(s) per SAE J537. This involves at a minimum, one reserve capacity test and one cold cranking performance test. 3.4.2 Recharge sample battery(s) per SAE J537. 3.4.3 The electrolyte shall be at the highest level reco

17、mmended by the manufacturer if accessible or the normal shipping level if inaccessible. A factory-filled accessible battery sold as “maintenance-free” may be treated as inaccessible. 3.4.4 The temperature during testing shall be 27 C 3 C (80 F 5 F). A climate-controlled room temperature will be suff

18、icient. 3.4.5 One or more fully charged batteries shall be placed on the vibration machine. The batteries shall be symmetrically balanced on the vibrator. SAE INTERNATIONAL J3060 APR2016 Page 3 of 3 3.4.6 The batteries shall be firmly held down by a top hold-down frame bearing on the top four edges

19、of the battery or by an optional top bar or bottom hold-down. In no instance shall warping of the battery case exceed 1.3 mm (0.05 in) per side due to excess hold-down force 3.4.7 Vibration severity (one unit): 3.4.7.1 Automotive: 3.5 G r 0.2 G for 4 hours at 30 to 36 Hz 3.4.7.2 Heavy Duty Level 1:

The acceleration is to be primarily in the vertical direction. Table pos

The acceleration and frequency associated with the intended severity level shall be held within the specified range for the specified duration. Mechanical or electronic vibration m

22、achines may be used for this testing. A calibrated accelerometer with readout, digital preferred, is required to set and verify the G-level. A calibrated tachometer or adjustable strobe light is required to set or verify the frequency. A calibrated programmable controller controlling an electronic s

23、haker with a feedback loop may also be used. 3.4.9 Within 72 hours after each unit of vibration, discharge the battery at 27 C 3 C (80 F 5 F) at its specified -18 C (0 F) cold cranking rate. The 30 seconds voltage must meet a 1.20 vpc minimum requirement or the test unit is failed and the testing is

24、 stopped. If the 30 seconds voltage requirement is met, recharge according to methods given in SAE J537 and repeat 3.4.8 until failure or until a specified number of units has been successfully achieved. Electrolyte loss during vibration shall be considered a failure of the unit running and the test

25、ing is stopped. 3.4.10 As an option, when two or more units are required, two or more units of may be run continuously without intervening performance tests. To prevent equipment from running unsupervised over nights or weekends or for any other purpose, it shall be permitted to break units into sma

26、ller intervals with or without extra performance tests. If a failure is recognized, only the units completed with passing electrical performance tests and no electrolyte loss shall count as being successfully completed. 4. CERTIFICATION Suppliers who certify their batteries meet the requirements of

27、this document may publish the vibration level and number of units completed successfully per 3.4.10 as a reference. However, they shall have test data available for users upon request. 5.
