、tor Between Towing Vehicles and Trailers with 12 Volt Nominal Supply RATIONALE This document has been developed concurrently with the SAE J2742 “Combination 11 Conductors and 4 Pairs ECBS Cable”. The connector and cable provide the system for conveying power, ground and signal to support the trailer
、 ECBS (Electronically Controlled Braking System) and anticipated, mid-term future requirements. In addition the system will meet all the requirements of the SAE J2394/J560 system since the new connector must be compatible with non-ECBS trailers. The system is being designed with improved performance
、 characteristics, both environmental and electrical, when compared to the SAE J2394/560 system. 1. SCOPE This SAE standard establishes the minimum construction and performance requirements for a 15 Pole Connector Between Towing Vehicles and Trailers, for trucks, trailers, and dollies in conjunction
、with SAE J2742 “Combination 11 Conductors and 4 Pairs ECBS Cable”. The connector accommodates both power and ISO 11992-1 signal circuits along with dual ground wires to accommodate grounding requirements within the constraints of the SAE J2691 terminal capacity. 2. 28、work is to be defined by the tractor OE. NOTE *-The tractor and trailer ground cabling interfacing to the SAE J2691 receptacle (terminals number 1 and 8) are to be bonded together, forming a common ground termination. The bonding point of the grounds should occur at the termination points of the SAE
、J2691 receptacle interface wiring within the tractor and the trailer. The bonding design of the two ground circuits is at the discretion of the tractor /trailer OE, but it is imperative that the tractor and trailer wiring architecture provide for a common, parallel ground circuit within the SAEJ2691
、 tractor to trailer interface cabling. SAE J2691 Issued APR2013 Page 8 of 8 6. TESTS AND SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS 6.1 General Connectors shall be tested to ISO 4091, whose requirements they shall meet except where specified differently in the following sub-clauses: 6.2 Mis-mating It shall be impossible
、 to make contact between any tube or pin of the plugs and sockets according to this SAE specification without the use of excessive force. 6.3 Connection and Disconnection The connection and disconnection forces shall not exceed 100 N when tested in according to ISO 4091. 7. NOTES 7.1 Ground circuits
、 (cable SAE J2742 and connector SAE J2691) The SAEJ2691 Connector and SAE J2247 Cable designs contain a primary and secondary ground circuit. The combined CMAs of these primary and secondary ground circuits are greater than the CMA of the single ground currently found in the SAE J560 connector and S
、AE J2394 cable but independently neither the primary or secondary ground of the SAE J2691 or SAE J2742 will equal the one ground circuit found in the SAE J560 and SAE J2394. Therefore it is imperative both tractor and trailer OEs that employ the SAE J2691 and SAE J2742 standards create a common para
、llel ground bond between terminals 1 and 8 of the SAEJ2691 connector within their respective wiring architecture. 7.2 Marginal Indicia A change bar (l) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas where technical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to
