、 Fluid Power -Test Methods-Threadless ConnectionsRATIONALEThis SAE Standard Project No. C1-J2682-13-01 was initiated to develop a USA national standard to establish test methods for threadless connections.FOREWORDIn fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a fluid (liquid or

、gas) under pressure within an enclosed circuit. Threadless connections must be designed to meet these requirements under varying conditions. Testing of threadless connections to meet performance requirements provides users a basis of assurance for determining design application and for checking comp

、liance with their stated requirements. This standard also provides a means to evaluate functional requirements of new threadless connector configurations not yet in the market place. WARNING: Some of the tests described in this document are considered hazardous; it is therefore essential that, in co

、nducting these tests, all appropriate safety precautions are strictly adhered to. Attention is drawn to the danger of burst, fine jets (which can penetrate the skin), and energy release of expanding gases. To reduce the hazard to energy release, bleed air out of test specimens prior to pressure test

、ing. Tests shall be set-up and performed by properly trained personnel. These connectors shall not be disconnected under pressure.1. SCOPEThis SAE standard specifies uniform methods for the testing of threadless connections for hydraulic fluid power applications. These connections are intended for ge

、neral application and hydraulic systems on industrial equipment and commercial products. These connections shall be capable of providing leak proof connections in hydraulic systems operating from 95 kPa vacuum to working pressures specified by the manufacturer.Since many factors influence the pressu

、re at which a hydraulic system will or will not perform satisfactorily, it is recommended that sufficient testing be conducted and reviewed by both the user and manufacturer to ensure that required performance levels are met.SAE INTERNATIONAL J2682 AUG2016 Page 2 of 52. DEFINITIONS

、 For the purpose of this document, the definitions given in ISO 5598 shall apply.SAE INTERNATIONAL J2682 AUG2016 Page 3 of 54. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS4.1 Test PressuresThreadless connections vary by design between manufacturers and as a result so do maximum working pressures. Contact manufacturer for a

、pplicable test pressures.4.2 Test SamplesAll components tested shall be tested in the final form (as the customer receives the part). Unless otherwise specified, test samples shall be comprised of a connected male and female half. 4.3 Assembly ProceduresConsult manufacturer for applicable assembly a

、nd disassembly instructions.4.4 Test FluidsSelect a hydraulic fluid suitable for most hydraulic systems. Test fluids must be used as agreed upon between the customer and the manufacturer. 4.5 Test TemperaturesTest temperature (ambient and liquid) shall be 15 C to 35 C, unless otherwise specified by

、the user or by the controlling International Standard.4.6 Test FrequencyQualification testing shall be required when there is a change in design, material or manufacturing process. Otherwise, the test frequency shall be decided between the user and the manufacturer.4.7 TEST REPORTSTest reports shall

、 be reported on the test data form in Appendix A.5. TEST METHODS (AS AGREED BETWEEN THE MANUFACTURER AND USER)Each test requires the use of a new set of samples and should not be reused or returned to stock after completion of the test.5.1 Burst Pressure TestSee ISO 19879.5.2 Vacuum Pressure Test95

、kPa vacuum, See ISO 19879.5.3 Cyclic Endurance (Impulse) With Side LoadSix samples shall be impulse tested one million cycles in accordance with ISO 19879, while simultaneously applying a side load of 50 N to verify the fatigue strength and that the connections are leak free. The side load shall be

、applied and positioned as detailed in ISO 18869 Figure 1. After the impulse test, parts shall not fail and must maintain class 0 leakage per SAE J1176 when subjected to proof pressure testing at twice the working pressure.SAE INTERNATIONAL J2682 AUG2016 Page 4 of 55.4 Cyclic Endurance (Impulse) With

、 RotationSix samples shall be impulse tested to a number of cycles as agreed between manufacturer and user with rotation per ISO 18869 Clause 21. Test pressure shall be 133% of the working pressure. No performance deterioration shall be visible including the ability to disconnect (if applicable). Pa

、rts shall not fail or show leakage when subsequently proof pressure tested at twice the working pressure to ensure class 0 leakage per SAE J1176.Note: In general, threadless connectors are not rotating members and shall not be used in applications that require rotation unless otherwise designed to r

、otate.5.5 Connect and Disconnect Test (If Applicable)Three samples of male and female halves shall be connected and disconnected a total of 10 cycles (unless otherwise agreed upon between manufacture and user). A cycle is defined as two halves being connected and then subsequently disconnected. Part

、s shall not fail and must maintain class 0 leakage per SAE J1176 when subjected to proof pressure testing according to ISO 19879.5.6 Force to Connect TestTen samples of male and female halves shall be pushed together in the vertical plane at a rate of 127 mm/minute until the two halves latch togethe

、r. The maximum load required to force the two halves together shall be agreed upon between manufacturer and user.5.7 Dust Box Vibration and Seal Integrity Test (Not Under Pressure)To ensure contaminants do not affect connector performance, four samples of male and female halves shall be subjected to

、 a dust box vibration test with the following test parameters;xFrequency Sweep: 11 50 HzxAcceleration: 4gxSweep Velocity: 30 Hz/minxTest duration 48 HoursAttach dust box to a vibration table such that the bottom of the box sets on the table and the samples move in the horizontal direction perpendicu

The samples shall be rigidly and horizontally mounted in the dust box and half covered with fine (900 kg/m3) dust particles per MIL-STD-810G Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests, Method 510.6 Sand and Dust.No measurable wear or performance deter

、ioration shall be visible including the ability to disconnect (if applicable). Parts shall not fail or show leakage when subsequently proof pressure tested at twice the working pressure to ensure class 0 leakage per SAE J1176.For design specific applications, test parameters and performance criteria
