ScopeThis SAE Recommended Practice establishes uniform test procedures and certain minimu

    5、mperformance requirements for motor vehicle seats and seat adjusters. It is limited to tests that can beconducted on uniform test fixtures and equipment available in commercial laboratory test facilities. Thispractice includes a minimum requirement for horizontal forward loads encountered in vehicle

    6、 forward impacts,and horizontal loads obtained by impacting the vehicle from the rear. The requirements and test procedures inthis recommended practice reflect current technology and industry experience. It is intended to subject thisrecommended practice to a continuing review and revision as techno

Definitions3.1 Motor Vehicle Seat SystemA structure engineered to seat the driver and/or passengers, including all pads,upholstery, dec

    9、orative metal trim parts, and seat adjusters or supporting components.3.2 Seat AdjusterA device anchored to the structure which supports the seat frame assembly and provides forseat adjustments in the longitudinal and/or vertical direction. This includes any track, link, or power actuatingassemblies

    10、 necessary to adjust the position of the seat.3.3 Seat FrameThe structural portion of a seat assembly. The frame may be constructed with springs attacheddirectly to the structural frame or with the springs attached as a separate assembly.3.4 Seat Back Frame Upper CrossbarThe uppermost horizontal str

    11、uctural member of a seat back frame.SAE J879b Revised JUL68-2-3.5 Nonadjustable SeatA motor vehicle seat which does not have a seat adjuster as defined in paragraph 3.2.This also includes those seats capable of movement for stowing the seat or other items.3.6 Head RestraintA head restraint is a devi

    12、ce attached to a seat back or the vehicle structure and designed toreduce rearward movement of the head.4. General Requirements4.1 Simulated Inertia LoadingEach seat system or applicable component, together with its attachments, shallbe capable of sustaining a horizontal forward and rearward (in rel

    13、ation to the vehicle) static load, unlessotherwise noted below, when tested in accordance with 5.1.a. The seat frame shall not become detached from the seat adjuster or support system, and there shallbe no separation of the seat adjuster mechanism under loading equal to 20 times the weight of all se

    14、atand seat adjuster components that are longitudinally adjustable.b. The seat system shall not become detached from the vehicle structure under loading equal to 20 timesthe weight of the applicable components.c. Restraining devices for folding seats or seat backs shall not become detached from the s

    15、eat structureor disengaged under a horizontal forward load equal to 20 times the weight of the applicable fullytrimmed component.The seat adjusters or latching mechanisms need not be operable after the application of the test load. Theseload requirements are independent of any additional loads which

    16、 may be imparted to the seat adjusters andseat frame due to seat belt installations. If seat belts are anchored to the seat system, SAE J787 should befollowed.4.2 Calculated Inertia Loading of Restraining Devices for Seat Backs and Folding SeatsRestrainingdevices for seat backs and folding seats in

    17、the vehicle latched seat position, when evaluated by calculation,must remain in the latched position when subjected to an inertia load of 20 g in the forward direction withrespect to the seat (see Section 6.)4.3 Simulated Occupant LoadingEach seat system, together with its attachments, shall be capa

    18、ble ofsustaining a rearward static moment (in relation to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle) about the seat “H“ point(see SAE J826) of 3300 in.-lb for each passenger for which the individual seat back is designed, when tested inaccordance with 5.2. Seat adjuster and reclining seat mechanism shall

    19、 not disengage from their presentposition during application of the test moment.4.4 Simulated Occupant Loading of Head RestraintThe head restraint, its attachments, and designedsupporting structure shall sustain a minimum force equivalent to 3300 in.-lb about the seat “H“ point and shallnot fail pri

    20、or to the seat back when subjected to a gradual increase in force up to a maximum of 200 lb whentested in accordance with 5.3.5. Test Procedures5.1 Simulated Inertia Loading5.1.1 ALL SEAT ADJUSTER AND SEAT FRAME COMBINATIONS, AND ALL NONADJUSTABLE FRONT SEATS AND FOLDINGSEATSa. A diagonal strut shou

    21、ld be secured in place on each side of the test seat frame from a point in thesame horizontal plane as the c.g. of the fully trimmed seat frame to a point as far forward as possible ofthe seat adjuster attachments (See Figure 1).SAE J879b Revised JUL68-3-b. Adapt the test fixture to the subject seat

    22、 adjusters or support system, seat frame (trimmed oruntrimmed), or frame and spring assembly and attachments. The seat adjusters or support systemshall be installed on the test fixture in the same relative position as in the vehicle. All attachments areto be at a minimum torque specification. FIGURE

The seat adjusters shall be located in the full forward and upward design position for forward loadingand in the full rearward and upward design position for rearward loading.d. The test load is to be applied in a horizontal forward and rearward direction through the pl

    24、ane of thec.g. of a fully trimmed seat frame (see Figure 1).5.1.2 ALL NONADJUSTABLE INTERMEDIATE AND REAR SEATS AND ALL FOLDING SEAT BACKSa. A load carrying fixture, constructed in such a manner as to distribute the test loads into the applicablecomponent or components shall be used for these tests.

    25、 The fixture must carry the test loads, througha universal type joint, to the seat component or components near the points of attachment to the body,but must not be attached in a manner which would reinforce the sample under tests.b. The test sample is to be attached to the appropriate body structur

    26、al members in the designed manner.If other seat components or trim items contribute to the restraint of the sample, these items must alsobe installed in their design position.c. The test load is to be applied in a horizontal forward and rearward direction through the c.g. of theapplicable fully trim

    27、med component or components (see Figure 2). The length of the lever arm, D, is the distance from the seat back frame upper crossbar (or equivalentlocation) to the seat “H“ point measured on a line parallel to the plane of the seat bac

A load carrying fixture that will distribute the test loads into the applicable component or componentsshall be used for these tests. The load shall be applied no

    30、rmal to the seat back through the centerlineand at the top of the primary structure of the head restraint. Vertically adjustable head restraints shallbe loaded with the head restraint in the fully extended position. All head restraints on a seat back shallbe loaded simultaneously.b. The test sample

    31、is to be attached to the seat back or other supporting structure in the designedmanner. If body structural members, seat components, or trim items contribute to the support of thehead restraint, these items shall be installed in their design position.c. The load is applied as shown in Figure 5.6. Ca

The direction of force transmission through the restraining device assembly due to a forward inertiaload with respect to the seat.NOTEFrictional effects, work to be done, and gravitational effect on component mo

    35、vements if it tends toresist unlatching need not be considered in the calculations since they tend to resist the restrainingdevice disengagement and, therefore, provide an additional margin of safety.e.
