    5、Superseding J617 MAY2012 Engine Flywheel Housing and Mating Transmission Housing Flanges RATIONALE Users of the document have identified an error in Table 1 for the OO housing pilot diameter nominal dimension. The inch dimension was correct but the millimeter dimension was wrong. 1. SCOPE This SAE S

    6、tandard specifies the major dimensions and tolerances for Engine Flywheel Housings and the Mating Transmission Housing Flanges. It also locates the crankshaft flange face or the transmission pilot bore (or pilot bearing bore) stop face in relation to housing SAE flange face. This document is not int

    7、ended to cover the design of the flywheel housing face mating with the engine crankcase rear face or the design of housing walls and ribs. Housing strength analysis and the selection of housing materials are also excluded. This document applies to any internal combustion engine which can utilize SAE

    8、 No. 6 through SAE No. 00 size flywheel housing for mounting a transmission. 1.1 Purpose This document is intended to achieve standardization in the design of “Engine Flywheel Housings“ and the “Mating Transmission Housing“ flanges to assure compatibility. 2. MATING TRANSMISSION HOUSING FLANGES Only the “SAE“ flange area of the mating dry type transmission

    16、 housing is covered by this document. The nominal male pilot diameter of the mating transmission housing flange shall be the same as the nominal diameter “A“ of the flywheel housing, Figure 1. For measuring procedure see SAE J1033. 3For differentiating housings using metric tapped holes, add “M“ deignation to the housing size: Example: SAE 2M indicating SAE 2 flywheel housing wit

    26、h metric tapped holes. 4Tapped holes shall be equally spaced on each side of the vertical centerline “Y“ axis. Figure 1. 5Tapped holes shall be threaded in accordance with: Metric: ISO Coarse pitch series thread class fit 6H as specified in ISO 965/11. Inch: UNC Class 2B of ANSI B1.1 screw threads.

    27、6Minimum bolt thread engagement length shall be 1.5 times the nominal bolt diameter for “Gray Iron“ housing and 2 times the nominal bolt diameter for aluminum housings. Recommended minimum thread engagement length values are for SAE Grade 8 bolt and torque application. 7An “E“ dimension of 100.1 (3.

    28、94) is required for SAE No. 5 housing when an 8 size driving ring type overcenter clutch, conforming to SAE J621 is used. 8An “E“ dimension of 71.4 (2.81) is required for SAE No. 4 housing when 6-1/2 or 7-1/2 size driving ring type overcenter clutches conforming to SAE J621 are used. 9Optional 24 bo
