TTI: Thoracic Trauma Index: a chest injury injury criterion. 3. GENERAL DESIGN This section outlines the general design requirements for the seat structure and restraint

、 system for side-facing single-occupant seats. For the purpose of this document, a side-facing seating system consists of the side facing seat, seat cushions, and restraint system. Any substitutions to these elements shall be made only on the basis of additional tests and/or rational analysis based

、on test. 3.1 Guidance Guidance requirements prescribed in AS8049B, section 3.1 are applicable to all side-facing seats.3.2 Requirements Requirements prescribed in AS8049B, section 3.2 are applicable to all side-facing seats. However, AS8049B, section 3.2.6 Adjustable feature is not applicable to sea

、ts designed with a conversion feature (e.g., berthable side facing seat (divans), full lie-flat seats, etc.) that require the release of the occupant restraints to use the feature and return the seat to the taxi, takeoff and landing position.3.2.1 Side-Facing Seat Designs To provide an equivalent le

、vel of safety to forward and aft facing seats, each side-facing single-occupant seat must be installed aft of an end closure such as an interior wall or furnishing, that will support the pelvis, upper arm, chest and headof the passenger seated behind this structure. 3.3 Materials and Workmanship Req

、uirements Materials and workmanship requirements prescribed in AS8049B, section 3.3 are applicable to all side-facing seats. 24、re Protection Requirements Fire protection requirements prescribed in AS8049B, section 3.4 are applicable to all side-facing seats. 3.5 Allowable Permanent Deformations Side-facing seats must meet the seat requirements of AS8049B, section 3.5.1 through 3.5.7: Longitudinal Direction, Downward Directi

、on, Seat Rotation, Sideward Direction, Other Deformation Limits, Stowable Seats, and Deployable Items. In addition, the seat permanent deformations must not impede the occupant from releasing the occupant restraint, standing and exiting the seat, or not impede emergency egress to the aircraft exits.

、 3.5.1 Longitudinal Direction Side-facing seats must meet the longitudinal measurement data requirements of AS8049B, section 3.5.1 and the following additional test data requirements: It can be assumed that the maximum seat deformation will result from the evaluation of the structural test. Once the

、 structural evaluation is accomplished, it is not necessary to repeat the deformation measurements for the injury criteria tests. If structural and injury criteria tests were combined into one test it is not necessary to repeat the deformation measurements for subsequent injury criteria tests. 4. ST

、RENGTHS 4.1 Static Strengths Side-facing seats must meet the static strengths requirements of AS8049B, section 4.1. 4.1.1 Limit Loads, Attachments and Casting Factors Side-facing seats must meet the requirements of AS8049B, section 4.1.2 through 4.1.4: Limit Loads, Attachments and Casting Factors. 4

、.2 Dynamic Strengths/Occupant Protection Side-facing seats must meet the dynamic strengths/occupant protection requirements of AS8049B, section 4.2. 4.2.1 Occupant Restraint Type A seats can be configured with a lap belt, or as a lap belt and shoulder harness (upper torso restraint). Type B and C se

、ats have lap belts and shoulder harnesses. If a lap belt and shoulder harness (for example, as defined in AS8043) is used, the shoulder harness should cross the torso from the leading shoulder to the trailing side of the pelvis. Shoulder harness arrangement design shall also take into account the ex

、pected head trajectory and shall be positioned to minimize potential head injury.5. SINGLE-OCCUPANT SIDE-FACING SEAT REQUIREMENTS if a non-symmetrical upper torso restraint system (such as a single diagonal shoulder belt) is used in a system, it shall be installed on the test fixture in a position r

、epresentative of that used in the aircraft. The direction of yaw shall be selected to prove the retention of the occupant in the side facing seat, and to create critical loading to demonstrate the structural adequacy of the seat and end closure as stated in section 5.3.1.2., Test 2.b. For occupant in

、jury; the selected yaw condition shall be chosen to induce the maximum lateral impact component of the ATD and maximize the occupant injuries measurements as stated in section 5.3.1.3., Test 2a. 35、 following additional requirements:5.3.9.1 Thoracic Trauma Index (TTI (d) Data for determining the TTI (d) must be collected during the tests referenced in Table 1 since the ATDs torso, shoulder, or pelvis is exposed to impact on the seat and end closure. The TTI (d) shall be calculated in accordanc

、Impact Pass / Fail Criteria Side facing seats must meet the pass/fail criteria of AS8049B, section 5.4 in addition to meeting specific pass/fail criteria indicated below. 5.5 Additional Pass/Fail Requirements for Side Facing Seats 5.5.1 5.5.1 Thoracic Trauma Index (TTI(d) The value of TTI(d) shall n

、ot exceed 85g. Torso contact during rebound is acceptable and need not be considered. 5.5.2 Upper Torso Restraint Straps remain on ATDs shoulder See AS8049B, section 5.4.7. Deviating from a 10 degree angle does not provide relief from the requirement that the upper torso restraint straps, when insta

、lled, must remain on the ATDs shoulder during the impact.5.5.3 Pelvic Acceleration If the ATDs pelvis is exposed to impact due to contact with an aircraft interior feature during the test, the pelvic acceleration shall not exceed 130g.
