SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for heat treated parts, 0.875 inch (22.22 mm) and under in section thickness at time of heat treatment, requiring t
7、hrough-hardening to a minimum tensile strength of 180 ksi (1,241 MPa) and lower strength in heavier thicknesses, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. 15、2 Check Analysis Composition variations shall meet the applicable requirements of AMS2259. 3.2 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition; hardness shall be determined in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.2.1 Sheet and Strip Cold finished, bright or atmosphere annealed, sub-critic
16、ally annealed or normalized , and descaled if necessary, or hot rolled, annealed if necessary, and descaled, having hardness not higher than 98 HRB, or equivalent (see 8.2). 17、nd descaled, having hardness not higher than 25 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.2.2.1 If allowed by the purchaser, cold rolled, annealed, sub-critically annealed or normalized if necessary, and descaled, having hardness not higher than 25 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.3 Properties The product shal
18、l conform to the following requirements; hardness shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.3.1 Average Grain Size Average grain size shall be determined by either 3.3.1.1 or 3.3.1.2. 3.3.1.1 Shall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E112. 3.3.1.2 The product of a hea
19、t shall be considered to have an ASTM No. 5 or finer austenitic grain size if one or more of the following are determined by heat analysis (see 8.5): 3.3.1.2.1 A total aluminum content of 0.020 to 0.050%. 3.3.1.2.2 An acid soluble aluminum content of 0.015 to 0.050%. 3.3.1.2.3 A vanadium content of
20、0.02 to 0.08%. 3.3.1.2.4 A columbium content of 0.02 to 0.05%. 3.3.2 Response to Heat Treatment Product 0.875 inch (22.22 mm) and under in nominal thickness and thicker product reduced to 0.875 inch 0.010 inch (22.22 mm 0.25 mm) in thickness shall have tensile strength not lower than 180.0 ksi (1,24
21、1 MPa) or hardness not lower than 40 HRC after being hardened by quenching in oil from 1,550 F 10 F (843 C 6 C) and tempered for not less than 30 minutes at not lower than 900 F (482 C). 3.3.3 Decarburization Decarburization shall be evaluated by one of the methods of 3.3.3.1 or, 3.3.3.2. 3.3.3.1 Me
22、tallographic Method A cross section taken perpendicular to the surface shall be prepared, etched, and visually examined metallographically at a magnification not to exceed 100X. The product shall not show a layer of complete (ferrite) or partial decarburization exceeding the limits of Table 2. 3.3.3
23、.2 Hardness Traverse Method The total depth of decarburization shall be determined by a traverse method using microhardness testing in accordance with ASTM E384, at a magnification not exceeding 100X, conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes
24、in surface carbon content. Tempering is generally not recommended, but if tempered, the tempering temperature shall be not higher than 300 F (149 C). Depth of decarburization is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is not further increase
25、 in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the adjacent surface. Acceptance shall be as listed in Table 2. 27、o 25.40, incl 0.62 Over 25.40 0.88 3.3.3.3 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the limits of Table 2 by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less. 3.3.3
28、.4 In the case of dispute, the total depth of decarburization determined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern. 3.3.4 Bending Product 0.749 inch (19.02 mm) and under in nominal thickness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E290 using a sample prepared nominally 0.75 inch (19.0 mm)
29、 in width with its axis of bending parallel to the direction of rolling and shall withstand without cracking when bending at room temperature through the angle and bend radius shown in Table 3. In case of dispute, the results of tests using the guided bend test of ASTM E290 shall govern. Table 3 - B

31、in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2301. 3.5 Tolerances In accordance with AMS2252. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The p
32、roducer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. SAE I
33、NTERNATIONAL AMS6395H Page 5 of 6 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), hardness (3.2), average grain size (3.3.1), response to heat treatment (3.3.2), decarburization (3.3.3), bending (3.3.4), frequency-severity rating (3.4.1) and tolerances (3.5) are classified as a
34、cceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. If grain refining elements (3.3.1.2) are not present, the ASTM E112 grain size test (3.3.1.1) shall be conducted on each lot. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests If grain refining elements (3.3.1.2) are present, the ASTM E112 grain size test
35、 (3.3.1.1) shall be conducted on a periodic basis and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer (not to exceed one year) unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 4.4 Reports The producer of the product shall
36、 furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity, country where the steel was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of steel processed by multiple melting operations), results of tests for composition and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat, and for hardness, average
37、grain size, if measured, response to heat treatment and bending for each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6395H, product form, size, and quantity. If the grain size requiremen
38、t of 3.3.1.2 is met by the aluminum, vanadium and/or columbium content, the aluminum, vanadium and/or columbium content shall be reported and a statement that the chemistry satisfies the grain size requirement shall be included. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 5. PR
39、EPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accordance with AMS2807. 5.2 Protective Treatment Product shall be protected from corrosion prior to shipment. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules
40、 and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIO
