SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and forging stock.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for carburized p

    3、arts which require high minimum core hardness with a narrow range, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.2.1 The core may be difficult to machine after hardening.2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 CompositionShall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in a

    17、r Least Distance Between Parallel SidesHot finished and annealed, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 229 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3). Bars ordered cold finished may have hardness as high as 248 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3).3.2.1.3 Bar shall not be cut from plate (Also see 4.4.2

    18、).3.2.2 ForgingsAs ordered 3.2.3 Mechanical TubingCold finished, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 25 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.3). Tubing ordered hot finished and annealed shall have hardness not higher than 99 HRB, or equivalent (See 8.3).3.2.4 Forging StockAs ordered by th

    19、e forging manufacturer.3.3 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A 370:3.3.1 MacrostructureVisual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, tube rounds, and forging stock, etched in hot h

    20、ydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 381, shall show no pipes or cracks.     22、engineering organization.3.3.2 Average Grain Size of Bar, Forgings, and TubingShall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E 112.3.3.3 Hardenability of Each HeatShall be J1/16 inch (1.7 mm) = 48 HRC maximum and J6/16 inch (9.5 mm) = 40 HRC minimum, determined on the standard end-

    23、quench test specimen in accordance with ASTM A 255 except that the steel shall be normalized at 1700 F 10 (927 C 6) and the test specimen austenitized at 1500 F 10 (816 C 6).SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6264L Page 4 of 63.4 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condit

    24、ion, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft quality conforming to AMS2301.3.4.2 Bars and mechanical tubing ordered hot rolled or cold drawn, or ground, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard st

    25、ock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the machined, ground, turned, or polished surfaces.3.4.3 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas that contain flash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evi

    26、dence of reentrant grain flow.3.5 TolerancesShall be as follows:3.5.1 BarsIn accordance with AMS2251.3.5.2 Mechanical TubingIn accordance with AMS2253.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be res

    27、ponsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), condition (3.2), macro

    28、structure (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2), hardenability (3.3.3), frequency-severity cleanliness rating (3.4.1) and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsGrain flow of die forgings (3.4.3) is a periodic test and shall b

    29、e performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless a frequency is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingShall be as follows:4.3.1 Bars, Mechanical Tubing, and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2370.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2372.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6264L Page 5 of 64.4 Rep

    30、orts4.4.1 The producer of bar, forgings, and mechanical tubing shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity and country where the metal was melted (e. g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), the results of tests for composition, macro

    31、structure, hardenability, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat, and for hardness and average grain size of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6264L, produ

    32、ct form and size or part number, and quantity. If forgings are supplied, heat and the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be included.4.4.2 Report the nominal metallurgically worked cross sectional size and the cut size, if different (Also see 3.2.1.3)4.4.3 The produce

    33、r of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity and country where the metal was melted (e. g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, hardenability, and frequency-s

    34、everity cleanliness rating of each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS6264L, size and quantity.4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be as follows:4.5.1 Bars, Mechanical Tubing, and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2370.4.5.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2372.5

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 SizesExcept when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars and tubing will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m).5.2 Identif

    36、ication5.2.1 Bars and Mechanical TubingIn accordance with AMS2806.5.2.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2808.5.2.3 Forging StockAs agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.5.3 Protective TreatmentBars and tubing ordered cold drawn, cold rolled, ground, turned, or polished shall be protected from corrosion

    38、ceptance and safe delivery.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONSProduct not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rej
