    5、ion Molded Nickel Based Alloy 718 Parts Hot Isostatically Pressed, Solutioned and Aged RATIONALE AMS5917 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a corrosion and heat-resistant nickel alloy in the form of metal injection molded (

    6、MIM) parts. 1.2 Application Metal injection molding has been used typically for parts that require high strength levels to 1200 F (650 C) but usage is not limited to such applications. The MIM process is best suited for small sized, moderate to high geometry complexity parts with moderate to high pr

    7、oduction volumes. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Metal powder and parts shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chem

    15、ical methods in accordance with ASTM E 354, by spectrochemical methods, by the methods of ARP1313 for lead, bismuth, and selenium, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser. When a powder lot contains more than one powder heat, each powder heat shall conform to the composition requireme

    18、ude this analysis in the report of 4.3.1. 3.1.2 Check Analysis Composition variations shall meet the applicable requirements of AMS2269. 3.1.3 Determination not required for routine analysis. 3.1.4 Only carbon, nitrogen and oxygen are required to be determined from fully processed parts. 3.2 Process

    19、ing 3.2.1 Feedstock for Metal Injection Molding Shall be a mixture of metal powder and binder(s).The metal powder for the metal injection molding process shall be produced by inert gas atomization. Metal powder and feedstockshall be packaged, stored, and transported such that contamination with fore

    20、ign materials is prevented. 3.2.1.1 Regrind Regrind material shall not be used to make parts or test specimens unless approved by the purchaser. 3.3 Condition Metal injection molded parts shall be supplied in the hot isostatically pressed plus solution and precipitation heat treated condition.     21、NTERNATIONAL AMS5917 Page 4 of 11 3.4 Injection Molding Practice 3.4.1 Cleanliness and Inspection Supplier shall maintain cleaning and inspection procedures sufficient to ensure the quality of product to the purchasers requirements. 3.4.2 Manufacture Metal injection molded parts shall be fabricated

    22、by injecting feedstock into a mold, de-binding, and sintering to produce a net shape or near net shape part. 3.4.2.1 Test specimens shall be molded from the same lot of feedstock and processed as part of the same manufacturing lot (See 4.5). 3.4.3 Sintering shall be conducted in vacuum or in an atmo

    23、sphere of argon and/or helium and/or hydrogen. Sintering temperature and cooling profile shall be documented and controlled (See 8.4). 3.4.4 Hot Isostatic Pressing Shall be performed in a single gas-hot-isostatic-pressing cycle. Pressing parameters of time, temperature, post HIP cooling rate, pressu

    24、re, and gas purity shall be acceptable to purchaser and selected to provide parts that conform to the requirements of 3.6 (See 8.4). Instruments and thermocouples used for temperature control shall comply with the requirements of AMS2750. 3.5 Heat Treatment After hot isostatic pressing per 3.4.4, pa

    25、rts and representative specimens shall be solution and precipitation heat treated in accordance with AMS2774 except as modified by 3.5.1.1 and 3.5.1.2 Specimens used for manufacturing lot qualification shall be heat treated with parts. 3.5.1.1 Parts and Specimens 3.5.1.2 Solution Heat Treatment Heat

    26、 in a suitable protective atmosphere to a temperature within the range of 1750 to 1800 F (954 to 982 C), hold at the selected temperature within 25 F (14 C) for a time commensurate with cross-sectional thickness to ensure complete solutioning, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster.

    27、3.5.1.3 Precipitation Heat Treatment Heat to a temperature within the range 1325 to 1400 F (718 to 760 C), hold at the selected temperature within 15 F (8 C) for 8 hours 15 minutes, cool at 100 F 15 (56 C 8) degrees per hour to a temperature within the range 1150 to 1200 F (621 to 649 C), hold at th

    28、e selected temperature within 15 F (8 C) for 8 hours 15 minutes, and cool at a rate equivalent to an air cool or faster. Instead of the 100 F (56 C) degrees per hour cooling rate to 1150 to 1200 F (621 to 649 C), the product may be furnace cooled at any rate provided the time at 1150 to 1200 F (621

    29、to 649 C) is adjusted to give a total precipitation heat treatment time of 18 hours 15 minutes. 3.6 Properties Conformance shall be based upon testing of parts and injected test specimens, as applicable, processed in the same manufacturing lot unless purchaser specifies mechanical property specimens

    30、 machined from parts. Mechanical properties for specimens machined from parts shall be as specified by purchaser, noting that parts are not typically sized to allow for cutting of specimens.     31、le 2, determined in accordance with ASTM E 8/E 8M. on specimens as in MPIF Standard 50 or as specified by purchaser. The surface condition of the tensile specimens shall be as-molded.     33、y the purchaser (See 8.6), shall be as shown in Table 3, determined in accordance with ASTM E 21 on specimens heated to 1200 F 5 (649 C 3), held at heat for not less than 20 minutes before testing, and tested at 1200 F 5 (649 C 3). Specimens shall be in accordance with MPIF Standard 50 or as specifi

    34、ed by purchaser. The surface condition of the tensile specimens shall be as-molded. In case of disagreement, the intercept (Heyn) procedure shall be used. 3.6.3.1 Parts and tes

    36、t specimens shall exhibit an average grain size of ASTM No. 5 or finer. 3.6.4 Microstructure When specified, the extent of microporosity, banding of acicular phase, and amount of acicular and Laves phase, shall be determined by methods and controlled to limits specified by purchaser. 3.6.5 Density D

    37、ensity shall be minimum of 8.00 g/cc (0.289 lb/in3) or as specified on the engineering drawing. Density shall be measured in accordance with ASTM B 311, MPIF 42 or by a method approved by the Purchaser. Supplier and purchaser may agree to alternate minimum density limits if density is measured in ac

    38、cordance with MPIF 63. Density shall be measured on parts after hot isostatic pressing. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5917 Page 6 of 11 3.6.6 Stress-Rupture Properties If required by purchaser (See 8.6), shall be measured at 1200 F (649 C). Testing of notched specimens and of combination smooth-and-notched s

    39、pecimens shall be performed in accordance with ASTM E 292 and of smooth specimens in accordance with ASTM E 139. Purchaser may specify alternate acceptance criteria and/or stress rupture testing methods or parameters. 3.6.6.1 A standard cylindrical combination smooth-and-notched specimen conforming

    40、to ASTM E 292, maintained at 1200 F 3 (649 C 2) while a load sufficient to produce an initial axial stress of 100 ksi (689 MPa) or higher is applied continuously, shall not rupture in less than 23 hours. The test shall be continued to rupture without change of load. Rupture shall occur in the smooth

    41、 section and elongation of this section after rupture, measured at room temperature, shall be not less than 4% in 4D for product 5.0 inches (127 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides. 3.6.6.2 As an alternate procedure, separate smooth and notched specimens, machi

    42、ned from adjacent sections of the same piece, with gage sections conforming to the respective dimensions shown in ASTM E 292 may be tested individually under the conditions of 3.6.6.1. The smooth specimen shall not rupture in less than 23 hours and elongation after rupture, measured at room temperat

    43、ure, shall be as specified in 3.6.6.1. The notched specimen shall not rupture in less time than the companion smooth specimen but need not be tested to rupture. 3.6.6.3 The tests of 3.6.6.1 and 3.6.6.2 may be conducted using incremental loading. In such case, the load required to produce an initial

    44、axial stress of 100 ksi (689 MPa) or higher shall be used to rupture or for 23 hours, whichever occurs first. After the 23 hours and at intervals of 8 hours minimum, thereafter, the stress shall be increased in increments of 5.0 ksi (34.5 MPa). Time to rupture, rupture location, and elongation requi

    45、rements shall be as specified in 3.6.6.1. 3.6.6.4 Hardness Specimens and representative parts when required, heat treated to the condition of 3.5, shall have hardness of 34 to 44 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.2). determined in accordance with ASTM E 18. Parts shall not be rejected on the basis of hardne

    46、ss if the tensile property requirements of 3.6.1 are acceptable, as determined on specimens taken from the same manufacturing lot as that with nonconforming hardness or from another sample with similar nonconforming hardness. 3.7 Quality Parts, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality a

    47、nd condition, sound, and free from cracks, foreign materials, imperfections, and porosity detrimental to usage of the product. 3.7.1 If required by purchaser, parts and specimens shall be fluorescent penetrant tested in accordance with ASTM E 1417 or by another process method specified by purchaser

    48、(See 8.6). 3.7.2 If required by purchaser, parts and specimens shall be radiographically examined in accordance with ASTM E 1742 or by another process method specified by purchaser (See 8.6). 3.7.3 Acceptance standards for radiographic, fluorescent penetrant, visual, and other inspection methods sha

    49、ll be as agreed upon by purchaser and supplier (See 8.6). 3.7.4 Parts shall not be welded unless authorized by purchaser. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The supplier of the product shall supply all samples for suppliers test and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests.
