    5、016-02 Superseding AMS5640U Steel, Corrosion-Resistant, Bars, Wire, and Forgings 18Cr - 9.0Ni Free Machining (Compositions similar to UNS S30300 (Type 1) UNS S30323 (Type 2) UNS S30310 (Type 3) RATIONALE AMS5640V revises Condition (3.2.1.3) and Reports (4.4), and is a Five Year Review and update of

    6、this specification. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers three types of a free-machining, corrosion-resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for parts on which the amount of machining warrants use of a free

    7、-machining grade of steel requiring corrosion resistance similar to the 18-8 type steels but not subjected to temperatures exceeding 700 F (371 C) during fabrication or in service, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.3 Classification The steels covered by this specification are classifi

    8、ed as follows: Type 1: 18Cr - 9.0Ni - 0.28S Type 2: 18Cr - 9.0Ni - 0.14P - 0.28Se Type 3: 18Cr - 8.5Ni - 3.5Mn - 0.28S 1.3.1 Unless a specific type is ordered, any type may be supplied. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue is specified. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods i

    15、n accordance with ASTM E353, by spectrochemical methods, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser.     17、sition variations shall meet the applicable requirements of AMS2248. 3.2 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition: 3.2.1 Bars, Wire, and Forgings Solution heat treated free from continuous carbide network and descaled. 3.2.1.1 All hexagons regardless of size, other bars 2.7

    18、5 inches (69.8 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides, and wire shall be cold finished. 3.2.1.2 Bars, other than hexagons, over 2.75 inches (69.8 mm) in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides shall be hot finished or cold finished. 3.2.1.3 Bars

    19、shall not be cut from plate (also see 4.4.2). 3.2.2 Forging Stock As ordered by the forging manufacturer. 3.3 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.3.1 Hardness 3.3.1.1 Bars larger than 0.50

    20、0 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides. Shall be as shown in Table 2, or equivalent (see 8.2), determined at approximate mid-radius or quarter thickness. Shall have hardness not higher than 26 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2), or tensi

    22、le strength not higher than 125 ksi (862 MPa). 3.3.1.3 Forgings Shall have hardness not higher than 187 HB, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.4 Quality The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and, consistent with the type of steel involved, free from foreign

    23、 materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.4.1 Bars and wire ordered hot rolled or cold drawn or ground, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard stock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the m

    24、achined, ground, turned, or polished surface. 3.4.2 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain flash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow. 3.5 Tolerances Bars and wire shall conform to all applicable requirements

    25、of AMS2241. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing de

    26、emed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), hardness of bars larger than 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides (3.3.1.1), hardness or tensile properties if wire or ba

    27、rs less than 0.500 inch (3.3.1.2), hardness of forgings (3.3.1.3), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Condition (3.2.1) and grain flow of die forgings (3.4.1) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequenc

    28、y selected by the producer unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be as follows: 4.3.1 Bars, Wire, and Forging Stock In accordance with AMS2371. 4.3.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2374.     29、ucer of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producers name and country where the metal was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the following results of tests and relevant information: 4.4.1.1 For each heat Composit

    30、ion. 4.4.1.2 For each lot of bars, wire, and forgings. Hardness of bars over 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides or forgings. If wire or bars less than 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides, hardness or tensile strength. 4.4.1.3 A stateme

    31、nt that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. 4.4.1.4 Purchase order number Heat and lot numbers AMS5640V Size Quantity. 4.4.1.5 If forgings are supplied, the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings. 4.4.2 If the ship size/shape is cut from a larger cross section,

    32、 report the nominal metallurgically worked size (also see 3.2.1.3). 4.4.3 The producer of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producers name and country where the metal was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the

    33、 results of tests for composition for each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, AMS5640V, size and quantity. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be as follows: 4.5.1 Bars, Wire, and Forging Stock In accordance with AMS2371. 4.5.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2374. 5. PREPARATI

    34、ON FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Sizes Except when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars and wire will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m).     35、5640V Page 6 of 6 5.2 Identification Shall be as follows: 5.2.1 Bars and Wire In accordance with AMS2806. 5.2.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS2808. 5.2.3 Forging Stock As agreed upon by purchaser and producer. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial pr

    36、actice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and w

    37、hen acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Product not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES 8.1 Revision Indicator A change bar (l) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas w

    38、here technical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to the previous issue of this document.
