    6、ASTM E1447), requires agreement on mechanical property values for material outside specification ranges (3.5.1.3 and 8.5), the addition of AS6279 (3.8), adds AMS2368 (4.3 and 4.5) and revises the report paragraph (4.5).1. SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers a titanium alloy in the form of bars, w

    7、ire, forgings, flash welded rings 4.000 inches (101.60 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides, and stock for forging and flash welded rings of any size.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for parts requiring good weldability and high strength-to

    8、-weight ratio operating from -250 to -423 F (-155 to -255 C), but usage is not limited to such applications. The room and elevated temperature strengths of this alloy are lower than those of AMS4926 and AMS4966.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTSThe issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the

    15、TS3.1 CompositionShall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1; carbon shall be determined in accordance with ASTM E1941, hydrogen in accordance with ASTM E1447, oxygen and nitrogen in accordance with ASTM E1409, and other elements in accordance with ASTM E2371. Other analytical method

    18、multiple melted. The first melt shall be made by vacuum consumable electrode, nonconsumable electrode, electron beam cold hearth, or plasma arc cold hearth melting practice. The subsequent melt or melts shall be made under vacuum using vacuum arc remelting (VAR) practice. Alloy additions are not per

    19、mitted in the final melt cycle.3.2.1 The atmosphere for nonconsumable electrode melting shall be vacuum or shall be inert gas at a pressure not higher than 1000 mm of mercury.3.2.2 The electrode tip for nonconsumable electrode melting shall be water-cooled copper.3.3 ConditionThe product shall be su

    20、pplied in the following condition:3.3.1 BarsHot finished with or without subsequent cold reduction, annealed, and descaled. Bar shall be processed to the final thickness/diameter by metallurgical working operations prior to any straightening, dimensional sizing or surface finishing operations. Bar s

    21、hall not be cut from plate.3.3.2 WireCold drawn, annealed, and descaled.3.3.3 Forgings and Flash Welded RingsAnnealed and descaled.3.3.3.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on purchasers part drawing. Whensupplied, they shall be manufactured in accordance with AM

    22、S7498.3.3.4 Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsAs ordered by the forging or flash welded ring manufacturer.3.4 AnnealingBars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings shall be annealed by heating to a temperature within the range 1400 to 1500 F (760 to 815 C), holding at the selected temperature w

    23、ithin 25 F (15 C) for not less than 1 hour, and cooling at a rate which will produce product meeting the requirements of 3.5. Pyrometry shall be in accordance with AMS2750.3.5 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements and shall also meet the requirements of 3.5.1.1 and 3.5.1.

    25、mined in accordance with ASTM E8/E8M on product 4.000 inches (101.60 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides, with the rate of strain set at 0.005 inch/inch/minute (0.005 mm/mm/minute) and maintained within a tolerance of 0.002 inch/inch/minute (0.002 mm/mm/minute)

    29、ngitudinal and transverse directions. Transverse tensile properties of Table 2 apply only to product from which a test specimen not less than 2.50 inch (6.25 mm) in length can be obtained. Tests in the transverse direction are not required on product tested in the longitudinal direction.3.5.1.1.2 Lo

    30、ngitudinal requirements in Table 2 apply to wire, to specimens from bars and forgings taken with the axis approximately parallel to the grain flow and to specimens from flash welded rings taken in the circumferential direction.3.5.1.1.3 Yield strength and reduction of area requirements do not apply

    31、to wire under 0.125 inch (3.00 mm) in diameteror least distance between parallel sides.3.5.1.2 Notched/Unnotched Tensile RatioWhen required by purchaser, the product shall exhibit a notched/unnotched tensile ratio of not less than 1.00, determined at -423 F 10 (-255 C 6) (See 8.4).3.5.1.3 Mechanical

    32、 property requirements for product outside the size range covered by Table 2 shall be agreed upon between purchaser and producer.3.5.1.4 Surface ContaminationExcept as specified in 3.5.1.4.1 and 3.5.1.4.2, the product shall be free of any oxygen-rich layer, such as alpha case, or other surface conta

    33、mination, determined by microscopic examination at not lower than 400X magnification or by other method agreed upon by purchaser and producer.3.5.1.4.1 An oxygen-rich layer not greater than 0.001 inch (0.02 mm) in depth will be permitted on bars other than rounds.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4924H Page 5 of

    34、 93.5.1.4.2 When permitted by purchaser, forgings and flash welded rings to be machined all over may have an oxygen-rich layer provided such layer is removable within the machining allowance on the forging or ring.3.5.2 Forging StockWhen a sample of stock is forged to a test coupon and heat treated

    35、as in 3.4, specimens taken from the heat treated coupon shall conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.1 and, when required, 3.5.1.2. If specimens taken from the stock after heat treatment as in 3.4 conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.1 and, when required, 3.5.1.2, the tests shall be accepted as equiva

    36、lent to tests of a forged coupon.3.5.3 Stock for Flash Welded RingsA sample of stock heat treated as in 3.4 shall conform to the requirements of 3.5.1.1 and, when specified, 3.5.1.2.3.6 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from fore

    37、ign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.7 TolerancesUnless otherwise specified, tolerances for bars and wire shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2241.3.8 Production, distribution, and procurement of metal stock shall comply with AS6279. This requirem

    38、ent becomes effective September 1, 2016.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform a

    39、ny confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsThe following requirements are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable:4.2.1.1 Composition (3.1) of each heat and

    40、hydrogen content of each lot.4.2.1.2 Tensile properties (3.5.1.1), notched/unnotched tensile ratio when required (3.5.1.2), and surface contamination (3.5.1.4) of each lot of bars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings.4.2.1.3 Tolerances of each lot of bars and wire.4.2.2 Periodic TestsThe followin

    41、g requirements are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser:4.2.2.1 Tensile properties (3.5.1.1) and notched/unnotched tensile ratio (3.5.1.2) of bars, wire, forgings, and flash welded rings after reheating pe

    42、r 3.5.4.2.2.2 Ability of forging stock (3.5.2) and stock for flash welded rings (3.5.3) to develop required properties.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4924H Page 6 of 94.2.3 Preproduction TestsTests of forgings to determine conformance to all applicable technical requirements of this specification when AMS2375

    43、 is specified are classified as preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the first-article shipment of a forging to a purchaser, when a change in material or processing, or both, requires reapproval as in 4.4, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required.4.3 Sampling

    44、 and TestingShall be in accordance with AMS2368 and the following; a lot shall be all product of the same nominal size from the same heat processed at the same time; a heat shall be the consumable electrode remelted ingots produced from alloy originally melted as a single furnace charge.4.3.1 For Ac

    45、ceptance Tests4.3.1.1 CompositionOne sample from each heat except that for hydrogen determinations one sample from each lot, obtained after thermal and chemical processing is completed.4.3.1.2 Tensile PropertiesAt least one sample from bars, wire, and flash welded rings from each lot. One longitudin

    46、al sample shall be taken from a section having maximum thickness from each lot of forgings.4.3.1.2.1 Specimens from flash welded rings shall be cut from parent metal not including the weld-heat-affected zone.4.3.1.2.2 Notched/Unnotched Tensile RatioAs agreed upon by purchaser and producer. Specimens

    47、 shall be taken from adjacent locations and in the same grain direction of the product and machined to the respective dimensions of Figure 1 and Table 3.4.3.1.3 Surface ContaminationAs agreed upon by purchaser and producer.4.3.2 For Periodic Tests and Preproduction TestsAs agreed upon by purchaser a

    48、nd producer.4.4 ApprovalWhen specified, approval and control of forgings shall be in accordance with AMS2375.4.5 Reports4.5.1 The producer shall furnish with each shipment a report showing producer identity, country where the metal was melted (i.e., final melt in the case of metal processed by multi

    49、ple melting operations), the results of tests for composition of each heat and for the hydrogen content, tensile properties, surface contamination, and, when specified, the notched/unnotched tensile ratio of each lot, and state that the product conforms to the other technical requirements of this specification. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot number, AMS4924H, product
