、RATIONALE AMS4323C revises Properties (3.3.1.2) and Reports (4.4), and is a Five Year Review and update of this specification. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of hand forgings up to 6 inches (152 mm) inclusive, in nominal as-forged thickness and having a cro

、ss-sectional area of not more than 156 square inches (1006 cm2) (See 8.6). 1.2 Application These forgings have been used typically for parts requiring a high level of mechanical properties and good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. APPLICABLE

ACKNOWLEDGMENT A vendor shall mention this specification numbe

、r and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Forgings not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4323C Page 6 of 6 8.2 Hardness should be not lower than 135 HB/10/500 or 140 HB/10/1000, determined in accordance with ASTM E10. Hardness has been used to verify that forgings are properly processed, but a

、n “out-of-range hardness number” is not always indicative of forgings with “out-of-specification tensile strength”. Further analysis including material composition verification, heat treat process parameter review, and/or tensile property measurement on forgings with out-of-range hardness may be nec

、essary. 8.3 Actual solution and precipitation heat treatments may be proprietary. 8.4 Terms used in AMS are clarified in ARP1917. 8.5 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Celsius temperatures are show

、n as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.6 Purchase documents should specify not less than the following: AMS4323C Size or part number of forgings desired Property and acceptance requirements from the cognizant engineering organization applicable to sizes outside the range listed in 1.1 Quantity of forgings desired. 8.7 Similar Specifications AMS-A-22771 is listed for information only and shall not be construed as an acceptable alternate unless all requirements of this AMS are met.
