SCOPE:1.1 Form: This specification covers an alkaline permanganate oxide conditioner in the form of a water-solu
2、ble powder or a liquid for dilution with water.1.2 Application: This product has been used typically for conditioning of oxidation products on aircraft turbine engine components fabricated from steels, nickel alloys, and cobalt alloys by immersion in a solution of the cleaner at elevated temperature
3、, but usage is not limited to such applications.1.3 Classification: Conditioners conforming to this specification are classified as follows:Type 1 - Water-soluble powderType 2 - Liquid1.3.1 Type 1 shall be supplied unless Type 2 is ordered.1.4 Safety - Hazardous Materials: While the materials, metho

Protective clothing including eye shields, suitable gloves, and apron should be worn when preparing and using conditioner. Tanks shall
10、be prepared and operated under conditions of adequate fume extraction and with due regard to the safety recommendations of the manufacturer of the conditioner together with local workshop safety regulations.2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 Composition: Sha
14、ll be optional with the manufacturer. When prepared in accordance with manufacturers instructions, the compound shall form a liquid product, with no solid sediment at room temperature, and shall meet the requirements of 3.2. Solution make up and control procedures shall be in accordance with manufac
15、turers instructions and purchasers requirements.AMS 1383A SAE AMS 1383A- 3 -3.2 Properties: Conditioner shall conform to the following requirements; tests shall be performed in accordance with specified test methods on the product supplied at the maximum concentration and temperature recommended by
16、the manufacturer.3.2.1 Stock Loss: Test panels of alloys or panels with electrodeposited coatings shall not incur stock loss exceeding 0.000025 inch (0.635 m) per surface and plasma deposited coatings shall not incur stock loss exceeding 0.0001 inch (2.5 m) when tested in accordance with ARP1755, Ca
17、tegory 5. Where required in ARP1755, stock loss figures shall be reported. Vendor may indicate where conditioner is not recommended for particular alloys or surface coatings.3.2.2 Pitting and Intergranular Attack: Test panels and bars used for the stock loss test of 3.2.1 shall exhibit no surface at
18、tack, when examined at 50X magnification under oblique surface lighting conditions.3.2.3 Biodegradability: Vendor shall supply evidence that surfactants used in the conditioner are at least 90% biodegradable, determined either in accordance with ASTM D 2667 where relevant to surfactant type or by al
19、ternative methods appropriate to surfactant type acceptable to purchaser.3.2.3.1 Evidence of surfactant biodegradability does not guarantee that the conditioner may be discharged in either concentrated or diluted form into public waterways or sewerage systems; manufacturers shall give advice on the
20、means for disposal.3.2.4 Storage Stability: Conditioner stored at 25 C 5 (77 F 9) for one year shall show no visual evidence of deterioration and shall meet all other technical requirements.3.2.5 Performance: Conditioner, prepared and used in accordance with manufacturers instructions, shall conditi
21、on oxides on parts to make them readily removable. Conditioner which meets all other technical requirements shall be tested for conditioning performance in an approved engine overhaul facility for not less than six months, during which time at least ten turbofan or turbojet engines, or equivalent, s
22、hall be processed with satisfactory results before approval for service use is granted by the applicable engine manufacturer.3.3 Quality: The conditioner, as received by purchaser, if a liquid, shall be clear, homogeneous, and free from solid particles and separation and free from foreign materials
23、detrimental to usage of the conditioner and, if in powder form, shall be free flowing, free from lumping caused by moisture absorption, and from foreign materials detrimental to its usage.AMS 1383A SAE AMS 1383A- 4 -4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS: 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of th
24、e conditioner shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for performing all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the conditioner conforms to the requirements of this specification.4.2 C
25、lassification of Tests: Tests for all technical requirements except storage stability (3.2.4) are preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of conditioner to a purchaser, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when pur
26、chaser deems confirmatory testing to be required.4.2.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and, when requested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to the cognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contracting officer, or request for procurement.4.3
27、 Sampling and Testing: Shall be in accordance with ASTM D 1568. A lot shall be all conditioner produced in a single production run from the same batches of raw materials under the same fixed conditions and presented for vendors inspection at one time. A lot shall not exceed 6,000 gallons (22,700 L)
28、if a liquid or 10,000 pounds (4536 kg) if a powder.4.4 Approval: 4.4.1 Conditioner shall be approved by purchaser before conditioner for production use is supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser. Results of tests on production conditioner shall be essentially equivalent to those on the
29、 approved sample conditioner.4.4.1.1 A new or revised conditioner may be conditionally approved pending completion of the storage stability test of 3.2.4. Full approval will be granted following testing for the other technical requirements after completion of storage stability testing.4.4.2 Vendor s
30、hall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, and methods of inspection on production conditioner which are essentially the same as those used on the approved sample conditioner. If necessary to make any change in ingredients or in manufacturing procedures, vendor shall submit for reapproval a sta
31、tement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested, sample conditioner. Production conditioner made by the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval.AMS 1383A SAE AMS 1383A- 5 -4.5 Reports: 4.5.1 The vendor of conditioner shall furnish wit
32、h the initial shipment a report showing the results of tests to determine conformance to the technical requirements except that, for a new or revised conditioner, the results of the storage stability test may be omitted. This report shall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS 1383A, man
33、ufacturers identification, and quantity.4.5.1.1 A material safety data sheet conforming to AMS 2825, or equivalent, shall be supplied to each purchaser prior to or concurrent with the report of preproduction test results or, if preproduction testing be waived by purchaser, concurrent with the first
34、shipment of conditioner for production use. Each request for modification of conditioner formulation shall be accompanied by a revised data sheet for the proposed formulation.4.5.2 The vendor of conditioner shall furnish with each subsequent shipment a report stating that the conditioner is of the s
35、ame composition and has the same properties as the approved sample conditioner. If results of the storage stability test were not included in the report on the initial shipment of conditioner, results of that test shall be included in the report on the first shipment following completion of that tes
36、t. This report shall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS 1383A, manufacturers identification, and quantity. If conditioner from more than one lot is supplied in one shipment, a report shall be supplied for each lot of conditioner in the shipment.4.5.3 A bulletin describing the conditi
37、oner and detailed instructions for its use shall be provided by the conditioner manufacturer. The bulletin shall include mixing instructions, material compatibility, properties, control/analytical procedures, and safety practices including precautions for hazardous ingredients.4.6 Resampling and Ret
38、esting: If any sample used in the above tests fails to meet specified requirements, disposition of the conditioner may be based on the results of testing three additional samples for each original nonconforming sample. Failure of any retest sample to meet the specified requirements shall be cause fo
39、r rejection of the conditioner represented. Results of all tests shall be reported.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY: 5.1 Packaging and Identification: 5.1.1 Conditioner shall be packaged in containers of a type and size acceptable to purchaser. 5.1.2 A lot of conditioner may be packaged in small quantiti
40、es and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lot identification is maintained.5.1.3 Each container of conditioner shall be legibly marked with not less than AMS 1383A, purchase order number, lot number, manufacturers identification, and quantity.AMS 1383A SAE AMS 1383A- 6 -5.1.4 Containers
41、 of conditioner shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the conditioner to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 5.1.5 For direct U.S. Military pr
42、ocurement, packaging shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1, Commercial Level, unless Level A is specified in the request for procurement. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: A vendor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJEC
43、TIONS: Conditioner not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection.8.
